Title: Amateur Musicians
Description: I need you!

goodgoon - December 7, 2004 09:46 AM (GMT)
Is anyone here an amateur musician? For example, in their own band, a DJ, a producer etc, because I am compiling a website for University and need to know if any amateur musicians have used the Internet in any way to promote their own music.

Kiosk seems to be a good example, but has anyone else found similar success in finding an audience?

this local band~ standoutriot.tk ~ have a pretty good website, which they use to organise their shows and that.

Yes I am! www.zerell.com I use the internet to promote my band to the fans I make at each show (I collect their emails for the mailouts) and also to sell my cds across the world. I sell them on interpunk and it's always cool to see that I've sold a cd to someone in Japan or USA :D

So, are you going to give me a major label deal now or what?

i'm in a band. we're called Floodshock! (the exclamation mark is part of the name)
check out the website - http://www.floodshock.co.uk/
Post on forum if you like as well, there's mainly random crap on there about badgers and jaffa cakes, but we can be persuaded to talk about music as well occasionally.
We also have an internat address floodshock@hotmail.com which we use as a mailing list as a way of letting people know when we're gigging etc.

Yes. I however, will demand 50% of all band earnings.

supermark500 - December 14, 2004 09:02 AM (GMT)
That's still better than the majors! :P

Why would you want a major label deal? Shall I reel off a list of the bands who've been there, done that and regretted it? Go indie Sir, not for snobbery but for survival...

You may get 50% of band earrings if you're lucky!

To take the money and run :)

Or I'd arrange a deal where I would own the master tapes and get my own label which my band would be own but then distributed through the major. I'm not stupid when it comes to this type of thing. Unlike 99% of bands that do sign to a major. B)

Can't wait for the day when Busted decide to create a 3-disk concept album about life in the 21st Century, exploring the ulterior motives of the war on terror, the puppet that is our Prime Minister, the stresses of simply living in this day and age, and how society is crumbling around us as morals and tradition mean nothing any more, only to be told...

"Shut up and write some more crap about teachers and air hostesses."

So what happens in the "forbidden room of hell" - aka the staff room?

Apart from a lot of coffee drinking.

When I'm not there, lots of moaning about me!

how accurate is the Channel 4 comedy series Teachers as a portrayal of the teaching life then?

Do I have to answer that? I work in Primary, where there's no smoking, no free periods and no donkeys in the nativity play. We work longer hours than you think, need the holidays as much as the children and are generally very positive about life, the universe and education.

Only Christmas brings out the beast in us.

Don't need to. It's Christmas, arrangements go wrong, therefore it's my fault, cos the buck stops here.

If it was you, you'd moan too! C'est la vie!

Bone Idle - December 20, 2004 10:06 PM (GMT)
I get people moaning at me about the consequences of things they've done wrong! Oh the wonders of serving justice...

But I have endless respect for teachers - to do all that and still keep smiling? Amazing.
