Most recent first:
1) Cast of Thousands - Elbow. Superb, especially my singing on Grace Under Pressure!
2) Youth and Young Manhood - Kings of Leon. Good, reminds me of Creedence and The Band. Doesn't quite match the hype, but then how could it?
3) Phantom Power - Super Furry Animals. A gorgeous record, their best yet. Takes the lush sound of the last album and adds songs.
4) Hail To The Thief - Radiohead. Very good start, tails off a bit. A return to form though (really didn't 'get' the last two).
5) Happy Songs For Happy People - Mogwai. Absolutely gorgeous. Album of the year so far. Takes the majestic beauty of their early stuff and distills it into three minute 'pop' songs.
6) OKGo - OKGo. Very good power pop stuff. The first single was unrepresentative but who cares when the rest is this good?
7) Welcome To The Monkey House - Dandy Warhols. Good, but patchy (as all of their stuff is).
8) Meat is Murder - The Smiths. A stone-cold classic. Every house should have one.
9) Forever Changes - Love. Hmm. Don't quite get this one yet. A grower?
10) Hate - The Delgados. Good, but not great.
Phew, that was an effort! :D

In no particular order...
1) Elbow - Cast of Thousands. Ditto the comment above about singing. My name's on the sleeve if you look hard enough! Love 'em.
2) Wannadies - Before and After. Not bad but probably their weakest album to date.
3) The Wildhearts - Must Be Destroyed. Genius on toast.
4) Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power. Love it. Took some getting used to, not as instant as the last one (and the accompanying DVD is a bit disappointing)
5) The Darkness - Permission To Land. Oh yes.
6) Electric 6 - Fire. Fun live, samey on record.
7) Black Box Recorder - Passionoia. Their weakest record but not bad.
8) Erlend Oye - Unrest. Top stuff.
9) The Raveonettes - Chain Gang of Love. Good record but deliberately recording every song in the same key is just silly.
10) Bluetones - Luxembourg. Love it. I'm glad they're still (just about) going, they were so much better than most of the bands they were 'lumped in' with at their commercial peak.
I'm sure I've missed some out but that'll do.
petester - August 31, 2003 10:59 AM (GMT)
Evanescence - Decidedly average.
Fountains Of Wayne - Welcome Interstate Managers - half amazing, half decent.
Silver Sun - Neo Wave (Japanese Import) - We all know how good it is, and it's nice to have a proper copy of Ways Of Love, and not an mp3 that skips slightly half way through!
Good Charlotte - The Young And The Hopeless - probably would be ok if he wasn't singing about his Dad all the time.
Clerks Soundtrack - Proper punk from 1994. Not always my thing, but definitely worth owning.
Grass Show - Something Smells Good In Stinksville - surprisingly good.
Second Saturday - Here's The Deal - Excellent!
Copperpot - Tired Of Waiting - Only 6 tracks, but still excellent.
That's as far back as I can remember.
Timmy Dub - August 31, 2003 12:52 PM (GMT)
The Darkness - Permission To Land (Incredible)
RX Bandits - The Resignation (Musically genius)
Alkaline Trio - Good Mourning (A couple of good tracks)
Ten Benson - Hiss (Gotta love it for what it is)
Super Furry Animals - Guerilla (Great, but not as great as its predecessors)
Super Furry Animals - Spaced Out (Quality mix of Furry sounds)
Idlewild - Hope Is Important (No better than expected i.e. very good)
Motion City Soundtrack - I Am The Movie (not listened yet!)
Star Spangles - Bazooka (Different, but a bit disappointing)
King Adora - Vibrate You (Love the singles, but the others are only mediocre)
Jayem - September 1, 2003 01:47 AM (GMT)
The Davey Brothers - 'Monkey No. 9/Monkey Child' (two CDs and an hour long DVD for 12 quid... good value, bloody good music.)
The Raveonettes - 'Chain Gang Of Love' (blinding, love it.)
Rancid - 'Indestructible' (not their best, but not bad by a long shot.)
Erm... this is where my memory falls apart...
The Starting Line - 'Say It Like You Mean It' (very good.)
That's all I can think of now, too tired.

my last ten were:
welcome to the monkey house - dandy warhols, a return to form away from that bloody phone advert. very good
utopia parkway - fountains..., not as good as the first but on the whole ok
the places we have come to fear the most - dashboard confessional, brilliant and beautiful.
permission to land - the darkness, cock rock is their calling. so good
a mark, a mission, a brand, a scar- dashboard confessional, see other DC album, but better
its all in your head - eve 6, good. liked it but not as good as 1st and 2nd albums
american football - american football. mellow and relaxing but have to be in the mod for it
good mourning - alkaline trio. i liked it all, but not as much as the one before it, and certainly no where near as much as the first three
outtakes demos and rarities - fuzzbubble. again just different, not great but certainly not crap
la mano cornuda - the supersuckers. country rock. pretty good. cheap so it appealed.
the last few were part of the 30 or so i got in the USA so there are loads more, only the first 4 were got since ive been back.

Ah, good man Alex! Cheers for reminding me of a couple more that I bought recently:
Dashboard Confessional - 'A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar' - after already owning the absolutely amazing 'The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most' for a couple of months, I was quite disappointed with this. It's still good, but nowhere near it's predecessor.
Dashboard Confessional - 'The Swiss Army Romance' - the first album, bought on import from the U.S. It's very good, some of the tracks are earlier versions of songs that appeared on 'TPYHCTFTM', these earlier versions are much better, in my opinion.
Everybody shoud give Dashboard Confessional a chance. Try getting your ears around 'Again I Go Unnoticed', that was how the minor obsession started for me (either 'The Swiss Army Romance' version or the one that appeared on 'TPYHCTFTM' will do, although I prefer the former.)

Right then...straight from memory:
The Thrills, So Much For The City - good, but they're WAY better live
Kings Of Leon - good, but not really got into it yet
The Darkness, Permission To Land - rocks
The Coral, Magic & Medicine - a lot more immediate than the debut, I likes it.
Fountains Of Wayne, Welcome Interstate Managers - not as brilliant as their first 2, a bit disappointing at first but a worthy listen now and again
Dub War, Wrong Side Of Beautiful - only bought it for Enemy Maker, haven't listened much yet but sounds ok, not much of my thing.
....ok, now I've come to a halt...I have bought lots of albums recently but don't have them to hand...
Damian - September 8, 2003 07:13 PM (GMT)
Ah, The Thrills. Will someone PLEASE explain them to me? I love Teenage Fanclub, Silver Sun, The Beach Boys, even The Supernaturals... I normally LOVE that sort of stuff. So why do I find the The Thrills so utterly boring? I've seen them live too, so I can't give them that either.
I just don't get it, and I can't understand how they're doing so well, and why the sort of journalists who I know would normally eat that sort of stuff for breakfast absolutely love them.
Help me out here somebody...

Because they have the "The" prefix, which seems to make them immediately cool and mean an NME cover straightaway.... hmmmm.... *idea!* - The Silver Sun anyone?
Bone Idle - September 8, 2003 09:42 PM (GMT)
Don't The Thrills hold the current record for quickest NME love --> loathe turnaround? I haven't read that rag in months (years?) but I'm sure I've heard that the backlash has already started. I can't get that excited about them myself - pleasant enough on the radio, but in these cash-strapped times (oh how I love working in the public sector) that just ain't gonna make me go out and buy the LP.
Jayem - September 8, 2003 10:30 PM (GMT)
I've got to admit, I bought The Thrills album after really looking forward to it for a while... when I got it home, I played just the first minute or so of each song, because I was a bit short on time... as yet, I've never bothered to finish listening to it.
The singles are nice enough to hear on the radio, 'Big Sur' particularly, but... no, I'm not convinced.
