Title: Video Clip
Description: What's that all about?

Damian - August 28, 2003 08:45 PM (GMT)
Where did this video clip come from? And where did this happen?

As a statement of intent, i.e. 'here's proof that Silver Sun really do exist here and now', it does the job. But six seconds? Aaaaargh! Mental torture!

petester - August 28, 2003 09:01 PM (GMT)
Didn't Richard Kane have a brother who kept posting on the old message board that Silver Sun were never coming back, they'd split, etc etc. I'm sure that guy signed his name as "Buckton/Kane". I assume there's some sort of link between him and Jerry Buckton.

The clip is apparantly from the bands reunion at Richards wedding on the 16th (didn't say which Richard).. it's a bit brief but i thought some people might find it interesting.

Thought we'd find it interesting? Well my reaction was something like this...

Head reaction: 6 seconds of video? What's the point?
Heart reaction: IT'S SILVER SUN PLAYING LIVE IN 2003! HOOOOOOOOOOORAY!

:D

What an odd piece. Surely there's more than 6 seconds of this...

shed_jish - August 29, 2003 05:24 PM (GMT)
i'll believe you, my computer doesn't really like moving pictures. it can barely handle still ones.
in fact, if you look in, you can see the hamster on the little wheel that powers my pc, getting really tired as it tries to churn this through.

wowow! silver sun exsist. unless this a 'truman show' style scam, involving me as truman.

hmm. i be a little over excited.

Yay glad to see steps certainly are being taken to make music again, new to the board here but been into SS since the first lava release, even had my own fan site up for short while with some SS screensavers if anyone remembers that. Best band highlight for me was them playing "Reasons to Live" at v97, a very cool surprise that.

I honestly belive in this rock 'n roll friendly climate these lads can be big again if not bigger, they've got the talent of a fantastic songwriter, a tight band (last time I saw them anyway) and most importainly of all they know how to have fun with music which translates very well on record and live, (what is up with all the misserablist bands anyway keep it between yourself and your therapist, k?) it's the perfect time for them, in fact I smell a support slot with the darkness next year if they're lucky! (the darkness that is)

Anyway being anal about that video after ficking through frame by frame tho, it's a strange telecaster/humbucker combo james is playing there, kind of guitar I've been looking for for years hmmmm .....

Were those the screensavers that had the logo bouncing around the screen? I liked that one but I lost it when by computer went kaputt. You still got them?

Alex - August 30, 2003 09:39 AM (GMT)
it is great to see them playing live in 2003 but does it not scare anyone to see our favouite band playing at a wedding. i used to edit wedding videos and know the standard of bands what play at weddings.
do you think they do barmitzfahs aswell, and maybe even 20th birthday partys (if my dad could swing that.......). do they cover the classics? "going to the chapel and we're, gonna get ma-a-a-rried..." "...happy birthday dear alex, happy birthday to you".

how much would they charge do you think?

oooh, im interested (i'd invite you all of course, but there wouldnt be enough cake)

flangepipe. im pretty sure the type of guitar is a fender telecaster with a single coil on the bridge and humbucker on the neck, simply called the '72 custom tele'.
i nearly got one, pretty nice guitars but the shop didnt get one in so i got my gordon smith instead. they're about 550quid for the mexican version, if you get an american one it'll set you back a rather larger amount.

god im sad. i read too many guitar mags. i need a real band not a song writing duo, anyone want to form the next silver sun?

I don't think it's bad to see them playing at a wedding! Loads of bands play at the weddings of friends and relatives. And for Silver Sun it probably doubled as good practice. If it was on a 'for hire' basis, that might be different...

PS. Forming the next Silver Sun? Now there's an idea. If only I actually had a drumkit (I can play). I also recently discovered that I can sing The Darkness's "Get Your Hands Off My Woman" almost in tune, which is quite scary...

Cheers alex I've been meaning to get a new electric for ages now and rackin my brains over single coils or humbuckers as I really love both sounds can't belive they're not more widely avaliable/used, always admired the build and shape of the tele but not so much the sound. Issues about the mexicans is noted, will be getting an american if anything, pay a little extra and get a little more care and finish is what the guy in the store told me and I've been stung too many times buying cheap DVD decks to argue.

Still learning guitar after 5 years tho so no band for me yet still just practicing crazy frank black chord changes (seeing him in sept too excelent!).

The screensavers went RIP when geocities figured out I had a few too many accounts linked to the one email address, oh well, can do one again for the site when the new promo material comes out if it's wanted (hope they keep the same logo, now theres a thought).

'72 tele is a wonderful magical guitar. and hey everyone! i've lurked on the boards for a while, thought i'd sign up cos it looks like they're comin' back!

i've noticed a few things-

your all a bit anally retentive for me, calm down a bit. go out sometimes.

jish is a bit of a dickhead. get over yourself!

All 50-odd of us? That's a sweeping statement!

Well, I can only speak for myself. I live for the great outdoors, watch no TV at all and have fairly strongly-formed views on computer geekery (hence using my real name, but there's a far longer rant on it somewhere else on here). True, I've posted on here a lot, but it's the only board I ever post on (well, apart from the Wildhearts one occasionally).

I know I didn't NEED to defend myself there, but I just felt like it.

PS. I know someone who once stole the real Captain Sensible's trousers. But that's another story.

didnt we have a discussion about that in another topic? looks like they might be back so i think i'll be a fan again!

and im sure we'll all be going out to camden on the 20th to see the wonders that are SS.
we're not anally retentive, the word you were looking for is passionate, and you must be passionate about something. everyone is, we are for silver sun.

shed_jish - September 1, 2003 06:20 PM (GMT)
umm... isn't that breaking the agreement?

and *cry*
