Title: Us Election

Damian - November 3, 2004 11:55 AM (GMT)
Much as I'd like to pretend that the biggest news of the day is that many of you (but not me yet) now have the new Silver Sun album, there's something rather more depressing going on.

Bush won. Well, he hasn't yet, but he has. If I were a religious man, the phrase 'God help us all' would come to mind...

goodgoon - November 3, 2004 03:06 PM (GMT)
I agree. Just how has this happened? Why is (just over 50% of) America so ignorant? Mind you, even if Kerry had won, Bush would still have found a way into power, just like four years ago. Watch Fahrenheit 9/11, and all is explained.

This really annoys me!

elephant56 - November 3, 2004 04:03 PM (GMT)
It's a bit more than a little annoying, isn't it. I think from his statement "I've got a lot more work to do, to bring freedom to the world" we can guess Irans next on his fisher price shopping list.

goodgoon - November 3, 2004 04:32 PM (GMT)
More pointless conflicts. It's all about oil, isn't it? Notice nowhere like North Korea or China are targeted, as they might actually fight back effectively.

petester - November 3, 2004 04:46 PM (GMT)
What's most annoying is that he actually won. Fairly. No ambiguities, no "cheating". He actually got more votes than John Kerry. I just can't understand it.

Incidentally, is anybody watching The Power Of Nightmares on BBC 2?

elephant56 - November 3, 2004 05:13 PM (GMT)
I agree, I find it really difficult to understand that supposedly the 'biggest and best' country could'nt find anyone better than Mongo Bush to put in the white house. His IQ's 86!!! Truely, the majority of americans must be poorly educated, and ignorant to think he's the best choice, when most of the rest of the world can see he's not.

I wondered how Michael Moore would react to this. He has taken down his entire site and replaced it with a single picture. This one:

Holy Christ, that picture...

OK, now if I can stop laughing some time...

WOIUGWHEOUHWGOUHOHOIUHOIUHOH

How the hell did that cretin win? And don't anybody say "he got more votes", because I may be forced to throttle you with your own sarcasm. ;)

I actually just sent an e-mail to Michael Moore. I don't think his style of film-making is perfect ... but it gets a lot of points across that just wouldn't get exposure otherwise. The very things he's criticised for - the 'publicity stunts', the 'bias' in his documentaries (well, duh), the high-profile tactics... if he didn't do these things, the source material wouldn't get mainstream exposure. And right now, I bet a lot of people are gloating at him. So I sent him a message of support.

God knows how, but that got through the Overlords' filter!!!!!!!

goodgoon - November 4, 2004 03:11 PM (GMT)
I bet millions of Americans simply think "Hyuk hyuk!!! He's the President, so he must be a smart fella! If he's the President, he must want what's best for us!! Yee Haa! I'll vote fur him!"

No stereotypes intended (ha).

I have decided to hide my head under my duvet for the next four years. And like petester, I'm bemused how he managed to win it fair and square this time.

It's a graphic - no text to detect. That's the way round the ban. Allow me to illustrate.

THAT made me belly laugh out loud!!! Funniest thing I've seen in ages. And interesting, because the Overlords filtered out the "catchier than h*rp*s" quote because of the STD reference.

Heigh ho. There's always a way to beat the system.

There's something seriously wrong with a company that filters out the word 'h*rpes'. That's ridiculous. Does it filter out 'crabs' too? Or 'measles'? Or 'influenza'? Duh-huh.

Does it filter out words within words? I'll have to ask my mate in Scunthorpe.

I've bought The Religion War by Scott Adams (the guy who writes the Dilbert cartoons). It's set 40 years in the future where a world war is about to break out between the US-led Christian Alliance and the Middle-East Muslim "Terrorists". It makes some really good points about war, and God, but most importantly, it mentioned that the "terrorists" in this war communicated by email. They wrote their messages on a normal postcard, scanned it into the computer, and sent it as an attachment so it would never be detected. Just like you're doing here! :-)

Hmm... i agree that Kerry wasn't exactly the ideal candidate (Martin Sheen for Pres!) but I have to disagree - I don't think he was quite as corrupt as W, or as in hock to big corporate interests, or the Christian Right.

from the writer Paul Kingsnorth's blog:

I would just make two observations. One: at least this was, to look on the bright side, an example of an engaged population taking part in mass democracy. Shame that 59 million morons all voted the WRONG WAY, but that's democracy for you. Sigh.

Two: I really, really don't understand America.

We're not a company as such. we're a school. And the mainframe computer that services Lincolnshire filters out such words. They had to put a special filter on the DfES S*x Education Guidance to schools , cos it was being blocked!!

So we have to protect the morals of our youth with such Big Brother Overlords. Otherwise we'd have wall to wall smut in the computer suite!
