Title: Rainbow
Description: Back in The Day...

petester - May 11, 2004 03:59 PM (GMT)
My housemate bought the DVD of the old kids TV Show Rainbow, and we were shocked to see how much innuendo existed in it! The funniest one had to be where Zippy fancied an ITV presenter; he carries her picture everywhere, looks at it in bed, and makes strange noises whilst he goes under the table with the it.

Anyway, I got an email from my uncle with this link. It wasn't actually broadcast, (despite what they say on the page), it was made for a Christmas party (Check here for the story behind it)

Hilarious, but definitely disturbing.

Don't have Rainbow, but I do have The Clangers and best of all... Danger Mouse!

I loved Dangermouse! When I was very small, I was given a Dangermouse notebook and used it to write an entire book. It was gripping stuff for the first 17 chapters or so, but I lost interest by the last couple of pages and seem to remember it ended with an unconvincing shoot-out and lots of "Pow!" "Aargh!" "Help... me... Penfold..." and them both dying in an unlikely fashion. My mum was very disappointed in me.

PS Was it Dangermouse or Danger Mouse? I forget. (Is one of them a DJ?)

Is that the Rainbow where they talk about "playing with a friends balls"? Dangermouse was voiced by David Jason, but I can't remember Penfold's voice actor.

Penfold often referred to Danger Mouse as DM, so I reckon it was 2 words. Just a guess.

And my Mum always encouraged me to read Danger Mouse.

Wasn't the whole programme narrated by David Jason? I seem to remember him doing all the voices.

My mum made me a Dangermouse costume for a fancy dress party when I was six... B)

What kind of a creature was Penfold? Some kind of vole or something?

Not sure, but he started off (in the pilot) having a strong Welsh accent, which he lost thereafter.

The DVDs are excellent - you should be able to get them for £7.99 (less in sales) online, and there's six to eight episodes on each - six volumes in all.

And yep, it's two words.

Edit: Penfold was voiced by the late Terry Scott, I believe, apart from in the pilot.
