Title: Bill Bailey
Description: Would I have heard of me?
Bone Idle - October 23, 2003 01:43 PM (GMT)
I'm going to see the bearded genius himself tonight! B)
Anyone know where I can get some plastic pants, in case I wet myself laughing?
Damian - October 23, 2003 02:35 PM (GMT)
Um... there's a shop just off Leicester Square that can probably help you there.
How do I know this? Erm... because I regularly eat at Pizza Piazza when I go to London as it's nice but not expensive, and that's right opposite the theatre. I ate there on Tuesday just before returning to Bristol and spent half the meal staring at it (the theatre, that is) in jealousy. I didn't actually go into the aforementioned establishment. Honest guv.

Fortunately I managed to maintain control over all my bodily functions... mainly because I was a bit worried about how far up my seat was! It was in the 'Grand Circle', which I thought was quite posh until I found out that the Royal Circle was below us, and that actually the seats in the stalls were considerably more expensive - so 'grand' was just a way of saying 'high and far away from the stage'.

Sweet G 24 - November 6, 2003 07:43 AM (GMT)

Oddly, series 2 of Black Books was only ever released on DVD in Australia. If you want it, check out some Aussie sites because even after paying for international shipping it'll still probably cost you less than buying DVDs here.

I've heard that series 2 should be out on DVD here soon, if not in time for Christmas then early next year. Hopefully not too long before BB's legendary BBC2 series 'Is Is Bill Bailey?' which Auntie Beeb has been sitting on for far too long.

Now there's something I REALLY want. The feature on people that re-enacted battles was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Oh, and Black Books Series 3 is being made...
shed_jish - November 6, 2003 01:55 PM (GMT)
black books three! wow! my life is worth living again! when will it come to be?
lauren - November 6, 2003 02:03 PM (GMT)

Terry, as (almost) any Bill Bailey fan could probably tell you! Mind you, I have a signed copy of the Bewilderness CD, which helps.

Boo For Mark Lamarr!
Beating him about the head in (what i thought was) the funniest Buzzcocks for ages.
Woo!
Alex H - January 6, 2004 08:47 PM (GMT)
Yes, but in that very same episode...
Mark Lamar on some good British bands in response to a quip by that American dood:
*cough* "beatles, stones, pistols"
Bill Bailey:
"beetles, stones, pistols..?.....all things in my shed!"
Classic! :D

| Shed? Hurrah! |
There is, incidentally, a new (I think) book out called 'Men and Sheds', which as the title indicates, talks about the relationship between man and shed, as well as showing some fine examples... one person has built a cinema in his!
Alex - January 7, 2004 02:25 PM (GMT)
the big breakfast, johnny vaughn in the shed. it used to pretty funny i thought. i mean, tom cruise in a shed being interviewed. thats kind of original i bet!! johnny vaughn summed up that man-shed relationship for me! (i just use our shed to keep my bike in)

March 11th 2004...channel 4...
BLACK BOOKS Series 3! Woohoo! :D
Series 2 is also released on DVD on March 22nd, only £13.99 from www.dvd.co.uk
If you don't have it buy series 1 from www.play.com - only £8.99.
More laughs in an episode than most comedies manage in a series.

He's very small, you know. He played a tiny warm-up gig in a pub near me a couple of years back, and I was getting a drink downstairs when I noticed him stood next to me. Well, I say 'next to me', I had to look down. I'm six foot tall which doesn't exactly qualify me for giant status!
lauren - March 7, 2004 07:48 PM (GMT)
I doubt he's shorter than me...*sigh*
Damian - March 11, 2004 10:46 PM (GMT)
Well, Black Books series 3 started tonight and the first episode was ace. Any scriptwriter who epitomises the evil of a shop manager by making him a Stereophonics fan deserves an award!
Ste - March 12, 2004 12:19 PM (GMT)
That was indeed brilliant - wonder if Simon Pegg is a regular now or just a one off.
He did seem to get more screen time than the main cast which is odd for a guest-star but still, he was amazingly funny in it so i'll let 'em off.
"Manny - I'm REALLY angry now!" - that bit almost had me in tears.
:D

The scary thing is that I've known a couple of managers who were just like that. We were among 12 people who went on a (cringe) Fast Track Management Programme, and I made sure I did everything possible to ensure that my head remained firmly out of my backside. At the end of the programme, I moved to IT support, vowing never to touch management again. Creeps are everywhere...
elephant56 - March 12, 2004 04:04 PM (GMT)
The photo of Bill with short hair was a good enough reason to watch the programme alone. Cracking stuff it was.
