Title: New Fountains Of Wayne Album
Description: Out April 3rd

Damian - January 18, 2007 11:21 AM (GMT)
...it's called "Traffic and Weather" and has 14 tracks on it. And I want it yesterday.

Jayem - January 18, 2007 01:10 PM (GMT)
Didn't they stop being good a few years ago... or was that 'Stacey's Mom' just a one-off example of terribleness?

Stacey's Mom is a pop classic. Why do so many FoW fans hate it so?

I love to take part in the cut and thrust of a balanced, educated and informed debate!

Jayem - January 18, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
Heh, oh, everyone on the internet hates me today.

I'm sure it would've been fine, it's just that it got played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played and played...

...surely you can see how that got on my nerves? Particularly when it's not the best thing they've ever done.

Damian - January 18, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
Uh oh... are we getting into "it's bad because it's popular" territory? :D

Jayem - January 18, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
Nope, just "it annoyed me because it was inescapable". ;) I have no problem with popularity, for example it'd make my day if Silver Sun got a #1 hit with every single and album they released... it's just that I didn't think said song was all that good by their standards and loads of people played it to death as if it was the best thing ever recorded by anyone.

That said, I don't have a problem with the video...

Ironically, I believe that was why it became inescapable, wasn't it?

Jayem - January 18, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
Probably... oh well.

You have officially pushed my 'guilt' button. I owe you a drink at the Bristol gig!

Jayem - January 19, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
Heh, it's alright, I was just having massive arguments with people on other forums... by way of a change.

Alex - January 21, 2007 11:23 PM (GMT)
can't wait for it. it'll be good.

Woo, great news! And Stacy's Mom was a cool little song...did it get over played? I don't bother to listen to most radio these days, it annoys me...must be a sign of getting old :)

And how old is "old" exactly?

As old as Adam Gilchrist's batting average?

Nick - January 22, 2007 10:00 PM (GMT)
That'll be 48.66, in case you were wondering.

Quite how I got from FoW to Australian Batting Averages defies belief. Now if anyone can make the hyperlink back..........

Damian - January 22, 2007 11:12 PM (GMT)
On this week and the one before it, there's a new Wildhearts album, one from CJ from that band (which is sounding essential if you liked Honeycrack and The Jellys), one from Maximo Park, one from Arcade Fire and this one from Fountains of Wayne.

The noise you hear is my wallet screaming for mercy.

They've bought 50% of the closed Music Zone stores, including my two local ones, so I'll let you know soon.

I don't like that FoW artwork...I'd actually done something myself I thought was better.

Alex H - February 24, 2007 12:29 AM (GMT)
The new single is superb! :D

Anybody know when this album is coming out? The band website says a worldwide release on 3rd April (I assume the 2nd in this country) but play.com have it listed as sometime in May and amazon.co.uk aren't selling it at all, apparently. Anyone help ease my confusion?

It has been delayed for a month here. In the USA and many other places it's out next week. In Japan it's out already - I've got that ordered from HMV Japan together with the new Wildhearts album. Can't afford the special editions of everything but you've got to make some exceptions...

Right, I'm off to Japan! Who's with me? Why didn't it occur to me that there may be a Japanese edition of this album? Erm, let's say...tiredness. Japan may be a stretch, actually, but hmv.co.jp, here I come..!

Alex - April 1, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
just try amazon.com. i always buy used from there. its never used and is half the price of amazon uk (the dollar is weak weak weak). it will be my 8th purchase tonight - i havent bought any new music sonce christmas...

i'm such a bad liar. i can think of loads i've bought, and loads i still must buy.

but no good new american music. loads of my favourite bands have just released new albums. nightmare!

hot rod circuit
ted leo
modest mouse
owen
fountains of wayne

roll on amazon.

Damian - April 2, 2007 08:12 AM (GMT)
Ah yes, the Modest Mouse record. I want that too.

Be careful with Amazon.com though. Although it's cheap thanks to that nice Mr Bush destroying the US economy, order over £18 of stuff in one go and you're liable to be slapped for tax when it arrives...

(I guess most vendors don't write the value on the envelope but it's definitely an issue if you buy new...)

Pete - April 2, 2007 08:46 AM (GMT)
CD Wow have it.

Stuart Brackpool - April 2, 2007 02:15 PM (GMT)
Aren't CD Wow floating in a massive pile of poo? They've been stopped from cheaply importing their goods from Hong Kong I think it was. Anyway, I'll give amazon.com a look, see what they can do. Thanks for the advice.

Stuart Brackpool - April 2, 2007 02:48 PM (GMT)
Just had a look at hmv.co.jp and found out Jason Falkner has a new album out this month as well. I'm pretty sure you only need to eat every other day...

That was a year or two ago, initially I think they just raised most prices by a pound.

The new single was played in The Luminaire on Thursday night before Silver Sun played, amongst many other great tunes from the likes of Longpigs, Redd Kross, Symposium.............

modest mouse

Am I just imagining things, or did Modest Mouse advertise for a "Johnny Marr type guitarist" - he saw the advert, auditioned, and is now in Modest Mouse?

Alex - April 3, 2007 10:18 PM (GMT)
yeah johnny marr is officially in modest mouse. i was pretty amazed when i saw that as well.

and i know people who now love the band just because he joined them what TO55 ERS eh?!

i am awaiting the new album. apparently he is creditted as co-writing it.

What do people think of this then? I was VERY unimpressed with it on first listen, but its a grower. Being a FOW fan since the first album came out, and having grown up with them ,this album doesnt have any instant powerpop classics. I would say theres only a few upbeat songs on the album. Its better then the last album, although theres no song that tops Bright future in sales or Stacys mom, in conclusion this album isnt classic FOW but still a decent album.

Alex H - April 14, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
I think it's released at the beginning of May in the UK, so that's when I'll have it. I've booked tickets for their gig in Manchester on May 20th. :D

Damian - April 14, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)
Should have mine from Japan soon. Very jealous of anyone getting to a gig!

Philonski - April 15, 2007 10:19 AM (GMT)
My memory is really going. I'm starting to wonder if I've got some premature degenerative illness. Does anyone remember if I've ever seen Fountains of Wayne live? I remember going to a gig with a friend who wasn't usually into music, but I remember he liked FOW. It was a big gig at the Astoria. Was it FOW we went to watch?

Yes. I met you briefly, only the second time we had done so. You were going back down near the front and invited us to join you, but we were on the front of a 'step' at the back which was an ideal viewpoint for the less-tall-than-me Teresa.

Does that help? Perhaps your memory of the occasion is clouded by the fact that the sound quality wasn't great, at least where we stood...
