Title: Single?

Fat Reg - January 16, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
The 'flyer' for DWD on the home page states 'crazed new single "Fallen"'. So, what I'm asking is: when is "Fallen" released? And what's on the other side?

Alex H - January 17, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
Perhaps the single release has been dropped...

This promo was on ebay recently. See Me In My Dreams and Immediate were the B-sides (album tracks, not live/acoustic, etc). I don't know how long this promo has been circulating, so I don't know if they are there for promotional purposes or if they will be the actual b-sides.

I know, I was watching it..... seemed like more of an album sampler

Erm, I'm confused about the lack of mention of this anywhere on the sites - but as far as I know, Fallen is out as an iTunes exclusive on Monday.

It's a four track EP also featuring Immediate and two unreleased tracks - Daddy Can't Help You Now and Elastic.

Very nice it is too and it was (briefly but very positively) reviewed in The Sun yesterday (Friday).

Pete - April 7, 2007 08:59 AM (GMT)
Is this being done without the knowledge of the band? Why wouldn't they tell us? I'll definitely be downloading it. A quick search on Google has come up with a couple of mentions but not real details - look here and here.

I know zilch about iTunes. Can you just download the software and burn purchased tracks to CD?

Damian - April 7, 2007 11:20 AM (GMT)
Incidentally, this thread just popped up on Drowned in Sound. Bearing in mind it's one of their more regular posters and one of their younger ones at that. I might not have started it but I may well be contributing to its "up the top" status...

Aye, you'd have thought it would've got a mention at some point. But yeah, I'll be downloading it too.

Damian... you probably can just download the software and buy it, to be honest I don't know. It'd probably be in iTunes format, hence unplayable on anything else.

Philonski - April 7, 2007 12:53 PM (GMT)
Bloody nuisance, iTunes only indeed. Pain in the arse. More importantly, why would they have a single out and not make any effort to tell anybody? Gah.

You get iTunes here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and then, yes, the tracks are stupid copy-protected.

Pete - April 7, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Whilst they are copy protected, you can burn them to a CD up to 5 times.

Of course, once you've burnt it to a CD you can then rip it and copy it as much as you like. Annoying, but it begs the question: Why bother with copy protection?

Pete - April 7, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
Here's that Sun review in full.

PERFECT pop rock on this download-only four-song EP from the quirky lords of harmony.

Four out of Five Stars.

That's rubbish!
It does mean we can only download the songs we don't already have though.

Has anyone seen the cover for the EP? Are they making one?

With that and the new Wildhearts single being similarly download-only, and both out tomorrow, I guess I had better find out what all this iTunes business is about. Grumble grumble in my day etc.

My guess: no cover.

Alex H - April 8, 2007 12:33 PM (GMT)
iTunes is just like Windows Media Player, Real Player, or any other similar music player I've seen. It's scary how easy it is to buy from iTunes. Just search for an artist, click "Buy Song" next to what you want and it's yours in a matter of seconds...

Sonic Sloth - April 8, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)
Grr. I never use the itunes shop, and the one time I actually want to go in and check out Silver Sun I can't connect to it for some reason. Pesky Apple.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing the new songs, hopefully :)

Jayem - April 9, 2007 01:51 AM (GMT)
It's not on there yet... *impatient*

Jayem - April 9, 2007 02:53 AM (GMT)
OoOOooOOooOOoo... it is now. And within the next few seconds, it'll be on my iPod and in my ears.

Jayem - April 9, 2007 03:15 AM (GMT)
Right then.

The cover for the EP is... ah, here:

user posted image

'Daddy Can't Help You Now' is pretty much what I'd describe as 'classic Silver Sun'... but not quite. It's a bit 'first album b-side', a bit 'Getting It Together In The Country', with something unexpected in the middle...

'Elastic' features muchos electronic widdling and tin-pot drum noises... I can't really comment much further than that, heh.

In some attempt to make this into some kind of coherent review: two fantastic new songs that might not be quite what you'd expect from Silver Sun. A good sign, fo' sho'.

Philonski - April 9, 2007 11:16 AM (GMT)
Sodding iTunes shop isn't working properly.

Philonski - April 9, 2007 11:37 AM (GMT)
Sorted now... burning a CD... playing it...

levcore - April 9, 2007 03:04 PM (GMT)
can someone please please please email me the new songs? i would appreciate it so much as i need to hear them NOW!

levcore - April 9, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
oh yeah at levstyle@hotmail.com, please!

Pete - April 9, 2007 04:44 PM (GMT)
I must admit, the new tracks didn't really impress when I first heard them. I still don't understand why we weren't told about it.

levcore - April 9, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
ok i got it working, and i absolutely LOVE the new songs. They are very different and sound more like demos if anything, or maybe James is just going for a more stripped down sound. either way, they're great. :-)

Damian - April 10, 2007 08:24 AM (GMT)
8/10 on Teletext's Planet Sound today...

Ste - April 10, 2007 12:12 PM (GMT)
Hi all,

Just to add my two penneth worth.. this is the first i've heard of the single too hence it not being on the site.

JB emailed me a couple of weeks or so ago asking me to add Jason on the site and was supposed to be sending a pic through of him but hasn't done as of yet - I've emailed him a couple of times about it and to see if there's any other news to go on the site and not heard back yet so guess somethings come up or he's busy at the moment.

I'll be downloading this tonight though, will add the details onto the site later too so cheers to everyone who's posted about it. Can't wait to get home tonight and download it now too.

Ste

Just having a quick look on itunes, noticed the version of "Fallen" on the EP is the previously mentioned but assumed never-to-be-released Nigel Godrich mix - think i'll get that and the two new ones and leave immediate seeing as it looks to be the normal album one..

levcore - April 10, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
hey ste, personally i think the Nigel Godrich Fallen sounds so much like the UK album version that it might actually be the same evrsion and just mis labelled, or they just put that version out anyway. I too was looking forward to hearing what it sounded like, then disapointed to hear that it sounded exactly the same as the UK release. Anyone find this to be the case?

Seb - April 10, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
Well, Daddy Cant Help You Now is simple and brilliant.

Damian - April 12, 2007 12:05 PM (GMT)
Did anyone get a newsletter e-mail from Invisible Hands with the words "This is new" and absolutely nothing else?

No.

levcore - April 13, 2007 12:58 AM (GMT)
fraid not. anyone else though, think the itunes 'nigel godrich' fallen is the same as the uk release one? Just curious for feedback on this

Pete - April 13, 2007 06:44 AM (GMT)
I couldn't tell the difference.

Seb - April 13, 2007 06:49 AM (GMT)
I got the email, it was an ad for the EP (or whatever they want to call it), including a picture of the "cover" and some information that the release is an itunes exclusive...etc. Nothing that we hadnīt already figured out. I assume the email went out to everyone who had previously bought something from Invisible hands.

The email...

I signed up to the mailing list with two different email addresses, but I didn't get anything.

I was clearing up the spare room yesterday, and I found a couple of the Disappear Here stickers they sent out to us. I don't know what to do with them now, but it's still pretty cool that they used to send us things like that.

I still don't know why they (pretty much) kept this release a secret. I'm not going to complain about a lack of promotion, or bemoan the fact that more people don't get the chance to hear Silver Sun, but I would have felt that at least there would have been some sort of announcement.

Philonski - April 13, 2007 09:21 AM (GMT)
I'm supposed to be on the mailing list too and haven't had an email.
