Are you ready for this? I stress - I didn't buy it, I wasn't browsing the site, someone posted a link from the Drowned In Sound website...

Yet again The Daily Mail outdoes itself. Judging from some of the comments posted under the article we can be thankful that not every Mail reader is so narrow-minded. My favourite piece of the article was when the writer, A.N. Wilson, somehow managed to find a single cause for everything wrong in the country today. Drugs. He/she must be the most intelligent person in the world to cut through years of social malaise in such a manner. The Daily Mail serves only to stir up moral outrage in it's pseudo middle-class readership, keeping them scared, offering a voice of 'strength' and 'reason'. Parallels with George W. Bush, anyone? However, it's nice to see that in all their moral vigour they never forget to print a picture of Kate Moss. kahunts.

I had a quick flick through the readers' comments... lots agreeing... One started, "This is ridiculous," and I thought, "Aha!" Unfortunately her comment went on to say, "In fact, if you legalised drugs there would be no crime." Duh-huh.

Hmmm. I think that's the old argument about taking drug dealers out of the equation. It's a bit oversimplistic to put it mildly. The dealers' next step, I would guess, would presumably be to undercut the 'official' rate owing to not paying tax, in the same way that people sell imported cigarettes. But then I'm not really well informed on this stuff which is why, like the Daily Mail, I should probably keep schtum.
I've only ever known one drug dealer in my life - he wasn't when I first knew him, he became one - and he was one of the nastiest pieces of work I've ever met. This was, fortunately, a very long time ago.

Perhaps the Daily Mail should consider legalisinf AK 47's? That way we could be rid of all of society's ills. On the other hand, we'd just be left with Daily Mail readers!!

That's the old American redneck line isn't it? "Kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out..."

I can't read that rag, it makes me physically angry... I've been known to end up shouting at it (yeah, a newspaper) on more than one occasion.
