Title: Reaction to Gen V?

BlueDragon - May 2, 2011 05:40 AM (GMT)
So how do you guys feel about Black and White?

I personally love them. The AI is getting better, the new pokemon are pretty sweet on the whole, and I appreciate how gamefreak has been steadily improving on gameplay, movepools, etc with each generation.

My biggest complaint would be the NAMES of some of the pokemon. Foongus? Amoongus? Lol. That's only a minor complaint though, hardly worth mentioning. <3 black and white.

Granted...pokemon has never been immune to bad puns *coughalakazamkinecough*

It's just the sort of thing you deal with. The names have always been weird, they just seem less strange when you're used to them.

It mostly bothers me when they change a Pokemon's name to something that's harder to pronounce than the original.

Hence why it's a minor complaint >: ) To me, it's a good sign when that's the biggest flaw I can find. I was particularly disgusted by 'Foongus' and 'Amoongus' when I first saw them, but now I've decided they're fun to say.

I usually don't bother to learn the Japanese names, but that's because I usually shield myself from as much information as possible so when I play through the game, I get that feeling of 'discovery'. Or whatever you want to call it.

On a different note, I rather like the moving sprites. My fiance wasn't wild about the blockiness of the backsprites at first, but I found it rather easy to get used to.

I like Gen 5 a lot more than I first thought I would. I was and still am critical of alot of the names. I also jumped on the "Gamefreak have run out of ideas" bandwagon a bit for example- Timburr is just Machop, Boulouffant (sp?) is just Tauros etc but then I heard about Gen 5 being a sort of start from scratch, so now I don't mind as much :P. I like the little things most of all, like the 3-D enviroments, seeing the whole pokemon from the back, the shapes of the buttons on the touch screen and the pokemons eyes closing when they fall asleep. All in all I like Gen 5. Except Woobat and the candle pokemon look more like they should be in Dragon Quest Monsters to me. That's just my opinion :P.

I tend to feel like the 'Gamefreak has run out of ideas' criticism is a bit harsh anyhow. I've never minded more than one family of pokemon being based off the same creature. After all, there are only so many animals in the world, and often many variations of the same basic shape. I'm frankly quite happy to have new deer pokemon better than Stantler :D

I know that feeling, though. I was extremely wary of gen IV at first, but it grew on me over time.

And I can totally see (S)woobat in dragon warrior now...lol

Do you have any favourite Gen 5 pokemon? I really like the starters, but my fave out of all of them has to be Samurott. A samurai and a seal? AWESOME! I also like Excadrill, Daramaka, Stoutland, Zebrastrika and Unfezant but Sawk and Throh (who I've nicknamed Chop and Chuck) are probably my favourite out of all the Gen 5 pokemon cos I love martial arts :D.

The two I really don't like are Vanillite and Trubbish and their evoultions. I'm thinking of a demotivational poster for those two: "Trubbish and Vanillite - because apparently, American's are litterbugs who eat nothing but junk food". Or something like that :P.

Also, I've heard on forums that since Unova is based loosely on America, the big desert in the middle relates to ground zero of 9/11. Is there any thruth to that or are some forum-goers just silly?

I haven't heard that myself, but I may look in to it. That's interesting.

Hmm..my favorite gen V pokemon is Krookodile. I'm a reptile person :) My fav starter would be Snivy, and some other favorites are Archeops, Sawsbuck (bout time we got a better deer pokemon), Volcarona, Hydreigon, and Chandelure. Least favorite, probably Vaniluxe...

I actually kind of like Trubbish, I think he's cute. Somewhat. Not so sure about Garbordor, though

EDIT: BTW, sorry for the slow reply. I've been on a vacation :D

Cool, I like reptiles too- I used to own a leopard gecko. They're so cute :3. I forgot about Archeops! I like him too. I have to agree with you that Vanilluxe is pretty rubbish. I would just eat one if I ran into it. He would melt at room tempature anyway, so all you have to do is wait a few minutes and you've won XD.
Who's your favourite gym leader? I like Elesa...row...I also like the triplets who serve tea. Also, maybe it's just me, but don't you think the game makes its point a bit too often? It's constantly either "Well, we are all connected" or "Can people and pokemon really live in harmony?". Maybe I'm just too negative :P.

I used to have some bearded dragons and a ball python :) Had to give them up when I went to college

And as for the plot...hmm, it was a little pushy, but it didn't bother me too much. Plot is a secondary concern for me when I play a pokemon game anyhow, but they made a nice effort to make it engaging in this one (as in Gen IV, which was a big improvement over older ones IMO).

And as for favorite gym leader, probably Elsa. Nice sense of style.

Hi :D... Weird that I didn't find this forum until today... You do a great job on finding those weird bugs and stuff even though the games are outdated for more than 10 years now :D

The games have been out for a year now... And I still am not used to the names -.- And it is also VERY annoying that they took out any way to rebattle trainers. But I still love the new animations and moves
