Title: Senses
Description: Sensi...sensi...sensi.
General Tao - December 27, 2003 04:00 AM (GMT)
Dockett could sense it. Well, in all honesty, he didn't really need to 'sense' anything. It was like when people look for things so hard that they never notice it was in their hand the entire time. Only, Dockett wasn't looking for anything. The Twa Corbies was no stranger to the supernatural, or at least that's what he thought. Then again uninitiates seem prepared to believe anything rather than believing the blatently obvious.
At the moment the messy brown-haired man was sitting at the bar, playing idly with a few pistacchio shells on the polished bartop. He stared down at them quietly, grey eyes downcast from the lights. That was one thing that Dockett did enjoy very much from this pub...The lights were those old fashioned ones that shone dull and yellow. Again that feeling came over him...That 'sensing'. It wasn't anything flashy, it was the same as being watched, which is, as most know, highly discombobulating. Dockett sat back in his stool, which had a back to it, thankfully.
He looked around the pub and saw that it was beginning to fill up quite nicely. Usually when people came and sat at the bar the barman always badgered them to buy a drink and if not, to go to a table. Yet Dockett's clothing was so poor looking, so tattered and unfashionable, that they never bothered. They also never asked him to leave, which had always confused him mightily, then again they may have other worries in mind. His right hand rested on the bartop while the other lay lazilly at his side. The sheen of his unnatural skin made him place that hand at his side as well, away from the fearful light. Oh being a vampire wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Yet when compared to other vampires who were older and perhaps wiser than dear Dockett, he may have seemed like the most put together of them all...Meal wise.
A table seating three figures near the window suddenly broke out in laughter and broke Dockett's string of daydreams. He wasn't fantasizing about drinking blood or any of that garish and primitive vampiric mentality, he had already fed...He was just trying to remember what a good glass of beer tasted like.
Napoleon - December 27, 2003 04:30 AM (GMT)
The door to the Twa Corbies opened with a loud bang and a heavily clothed individual stepped in with just as much racket. Dark brown, construction boots with the laces undone trudged with purpose through the tables toward the far end of the bar and the seat right beside Dockett.
Sefton had found the large, wool duffel coat hanging on a hook in a men's hair salon. It was cold out and she really didn't feel like heading back to her dingy one-room appartment to get her own winter jacket. Stealing one was just so much easier, especially when what you found to steal was fifty times nicer than what you owned. It was maybe three sizes too big and gave the young woman a very bulky, manly appearance, but it was warm and very comfortable.
Shrugging off the large coat, she hung it up on one of the few coat racks standing aroung the bar. Grinning widely, Sefton meandered over to the empty stool beside Dockett and slid into it with ease, banging her fist on the table to get the bartender's attention. Being a regular, the bartender didn't even bother walking over to ask what she wanted, he just went ahead and started shuffling through the numerous glass bottles lined up at the back of the bar.
"Looking for pity, eh Doc?" Sefton remarked without turning to face the vampire. Instead, she let her hand trail to his leg, giving his knee a hard squeeze.
General Tao - December 27, 2003 04:43 AM (GMT)
"I was looking for something much more to my taste, actually." He replied, his head turned to face her and a soft and satiated smile on his lips. He looked over her form, his grey eyes grazing over her length subtly and eventually ending at the boots. His smile sharpened before he looked back up at her eyes. "You're late." He finally added, turning back towards the bar and placing his elbows on it. He had known her entrance without so much as looking over his shoulder.
He didn't make a move to avoid her touch, besides, such familiarity for him was exceedingly hard to come by.
He glanced over at the coat rack where he freshly stolen coat hung limp and rumpled. Another smile appeared on his face as he chuckled softly, as if laughing to himself. She never ceased to be unpredictable, and her delectable thief-like ways were unnecessarily seductive. He slowly leaned over towards her and placed a polite kiss on her cheek. He didn't hesitate to pause a moment near her, taking in her scent.
Napoleon - December 28, 2003 12:23 AM (GMT)
Sefton let her hand rest on his knee for a fraction of a minute longer before slowly sliding it down his thigh and then placing it back on the table. It was at that moment the bartender came back to their side of the bar and placed three shot glasses down in front of her, each containing a different colour liquid. Giving the barman a wink, the blonde reached into the front pocket of her large sweatshirt and dumped a few coins on the table. She lifted the glass with the clear liquid first, bringing it slowly to her lips and then throwing her head back as she downed it in its entirety.
"I'm late, you're early, but ya don't see me complaining, eh?" Sefton remarked as she removed the green bandana from her hair and tossed it up onto the bar. She gave her head a shake, tossing about the shaggy, dirty-blonde lockes that grew from her scalp and then rested her arms on the bar with a great sigh.
"How've ya been holding up?"
General Tao - December 28, 2003 12:31 AM (GMT)
"Well...Very well." He gave her a smile and as it faded his eyes wandered to the strange and mysterious liquids in the two next shot glasses. His eyes flicked back to her, glowing momentarily in the weak light overhead, like a cat in a dark alleyway. It left as soon as it had come though, and he had no way of knowing that it had even happened at all.
"How's your thieving going?" He asked, tilting his head towards the coat on the hanger. "Must be successful" He ended, looking back ahead of him at the barman. He let his eyes roam over the bar once more, now finding it starting to fill up quite a lot. He looked back over at her with a hungry look in his eyes.
"Is your little apartment still as cozy as ever?"
Napoleon - December 29, 2003 02:42 AM (GMT)
"Successful; nah. Cozy; always has been," Sefton replied simply, reaching slowly for the next shot glass. The liquid within this one was pale amber, perhaps a scotch of some sort. She lifted it to the light, staring at it calculatively as if contemplating the density of the liquid or how fast it might slide down her throat in its lengthy journey to her liver. Either way, it didn't appear to matter much as the shot glass was soon emptied in a way very much like the first.
"Ya want something, snowflake? 'Ts on me," she offered with a smirk.
Zyra - December 29, 2003 07:32 AM (GMT)
Zyra walked over to the two and placed a small bowl of penuts in front of them*Anything I can get you, loves?*
General Tao - December 29, 2003 06:51 PM (GMT)
Dockett watched her down another shot with an odd fascination. He had forgotten altogether what it felt like. When she offered he shook his head slowly. "No, I can't...I don't drink." He ended simply, not wanting to bring up the whole scientific reasoning behind being a vampire. As fun as it sometimes was. He watched her for a moment, again relishing in the fact that she was one among the rare people who knew him on a familiar level. She knew what he was, of course, but the true realization would never actually occur unless he slipped up in a very, very stupid way. "I missed you," He said as he stretched out a hand that was surely destined to touch her short dirty blonde hair, however someone was coming up towards them and he casually set his hand back down at his side.
A pretty girl came up to Sefton and himself and he gave her a friendly and neutral smile as she set the bowl of peanuts down and asked them if they wanted anything else. "I'm all right, thank you," Were the polite words he spoke in return.
Napoleon - December 30, 2003 12:34 AM (GMT)
"Actually I could do with a Heineken, or something," requested Sefton, giving the woman behind the bar a little wink. She then turned to Dockett for perhaps the second time since she entered the bar. Giving a bit of a scrutinizing stare, she pursed her lips and reached out her own hand. Sefton ran her fingers down the length of his face, pausing at the base of his cheek just before his chin.
"Missed me, eh? Very cute, Doc," she said with a lopsided grin as she let go of his face to consume the last shot on the bartop. This one contained a darker amber liquid and went down a little harder than the last two. Sef cringed for a moment and then gave her head a shake.
General Tao - December 30, 2003 04:34 AM (GMT)
"I'm serious. You aren't used to that, are you?" He also turned to face her, as she lifted the shot glass to her lips and threw it back with a cringe. He placed on elbow on the bar and the other lay at his side, as per usual. A more playful smile lay on his lips. He would have loved to read her mind...But it wasn't possible, he was too weak of a blood-drinker and had yet to develop said power. He was impressed by her heavy drinking, and found himself wondering what the point of it was?...It had been so long since he'd been drunk that he really, honestly, couldn't find a reason.
Hunger rose in him momentarily, but it was dull feeling and Dockett had no worries. One feed wasn't enough a night, though...He would have to feed after they left the bar and went on their seperated ways. He sighed about these vampiric practicalities and fell silent.
Zyra - December 30, 2003 04:47 AM (GMT)
Zyra brought over a beer and a glass of red liquid, she placed the beer in front of Sefton and the other drink in front of Dockett*I know you didn't want anything, this is alcohol free, it's a special mix of my own. I have a feeling you will rnjoy it more than anyone else*She winked and smiled and left the two for a bunch of guys yellong at her.
Napoleon - December 30, 2003 10:59 PM (GMT)
That was one thing Sefton refused to acknowledge. She had a pretty low tolerance for alcohol and as much as she liked to appear unaffected by the bottle, she truly was and it was pretty damn clear, too. She must have been lucky though since she was never once followed out of a bar by some sick putz with criminal intentions. Either that, or her remarkably male characteristics proved to be mighty useful when trying to make her way home in a drunken stupor. Then there were helpful people like Dockett, even though he didn't really count because he wasn't a person. Not technically anyway.
Sef slammed a few bills and coins on the bartop, wondering where the nice young lady had gone who had brought her friend something he actually wanted to drink. She shook her head and reached forward to try and grab the vampire again, she missed though and nearly fell out of her chair. The chilly feel of his lips on her cheek and neck hadn't faded and she gave another giggle, pushing her green bandana back onto her head, though it was a little crooked.
"Ya sure ya remember where it is, Doc?"
Napoleon - December 30, 2003 07:26 PM (GMT)
Sefton tactfully avoided answering Dockett's question by eyeing the woman behind the bar skeptically as she placed the glass of red liquid in front of her companion. She gave a slight smirk as she watched Zyra walk off toward the other end of the bar and the rowdy crew of men. Averting her watery blue eyes to the red liquid placed before the vampire, she quirked a brow and moved her gaze to Dockett's pale face.
"I'm thinking someone's taking a liking to ya, Doc, fancy that. What're you gonna do? Stare at it all night? Drink that sucker down, will ya?" Sef urged, smirk spreading into a grin as she grabbed for the beer she had requested and brought the cool bottle to her lips. She didn't chug at it though, Sefton liked to savour her beer for some reason.
General Tao - December 30, 2003 10:11 PM (GMT)
Dockett was in fact staring at the drink on the bar top. He knew what it was, it was hard not to. He glanced up at the woman who had given to him for a moment before looking back at the liquid. He wasn't certain. He looked over at Sefton as she told him to drink it. Licking his lips indecisively he eventually took the glass between his fingers. There were so many complicated things to being a vampire, and he hadn't had a drink from a glass in over one hundred years. It seemed suddenly so alien to him, and as he brought it to his lips it stayed there for a moment as he hesitated, until he finally took a sip tentatively. A drip fell on his bottom lip and he caught it on his finger before setting the glass down.
He didn't cringe at the taste or any such gesture of what he felt. He simply remained quiet before turning and looking back over at Sefton, suddenly feeling extremely vulnerable. "Maybe I should get going." He finally said, standing from his chair.
Napoleon - December 30, 2003 10:32 PM (GMT)
Sefton reached out with lightning fast reflexes, or nearly lightning fast, she was actually a little bit tipsy so her movements were a little slower than what was usual. Despite it all though, she grabbed Dockett's arm and pulled him roughly toward her. A sleazy grin took place on her face as he was, well, practically on top of her. Or as on top of as one can get when the other is sitting on a bar stool.
"You don't want to be doing that, Doc, it's dangerous out there with serial killers n' all," she informed with a giggle. Sef never giggled, or rarely. It was a little too feminine for her. It seemed rather odd to hear such a sound coming out of a woman who could have easily passed as a man any day.
General Tao - December 30, 2003 10:47 PM (GMT)
"I can handle myself." He whispered to her, he gave her a soft smile before reaching his right hand behind her neck and leaning forward. He gave her one kiss on the cheek, and then as a second thought, one on her neck.He leaned back up and gently pried her hands off of him, knowing his fingers would seem very cold to her. He had taken a step back away from her, when he realized she was right...There were serial killers out. He didn't want her walking on the streets alone, not with this bit of news that had been going around lately. Normally he would have known she could have taken care of herself, but with her grins and uncharacteristic giggles, he didn't think she would be as quick on her feet.
"Come on, I'll bring you back to your apartment."
General Tao - December 30, 2003 11:08 PM (GMT)
"I remember, yes." He answered after having caught her when she had tried to grab for him. A few people had begun looking at them, though they didn't seem overly amazed; Sefton had been knocking back quite a few powerful drinks. He gave them all a weak nod, as if to say 'all is well', which seemed to satisfy their small amount of curiosity for the moment. Dockett placed his arm around Sefton's waist, which led to some rather human memories climbing back over him. He couldn't hide a small smile, but it soon faded as he looked back over at her. He didn't think she would be seriously sick the next day, most likely a simple headache. A simple splitting headache, that is. With medications these days it should be no problem.
Slowly he made his way past a few standing customers and pushed open the heavy wooden door, the fresh air catching him by surprise. The door shut behind them, and the loud laughings and other bar-producing noises faded behind it's heavy weight. He began helping her down the street carefully, trying to help her as best as he could.
Napoleon - December 30, 2003 11:25 PM (GMT)
Sefton threw her arm over Dockett's shoulders, grinning madly. It was then that she was aware that they were actually outside; that the vampire had actually started to take her home.
"C'mon, Dockett! Ya know me! Ya don't trust that I can make it alone?" Sef asked, suddenly appearing quite sober and what's more: serious. Perhaps even more out of character for her.
General Tao - December 30, 2003 11:29 PM (GMT)
Dockett would have answered honestly, but he knew that wouldn't help matters. "It's not that I don't think you can make it home. It's that I want to make it with you." He had no intentions further than returning her to safety, but the fact was that memories of past times became more and more clear in his mind, and his intentions were becoming more and more fuzzy. Hm.
He swallowed hard and kept his pace up, his senses becoming clouded by the young warm thing clinging to him. He kept his grey eyes open and staring ahead, until he saw that they were only a few blocks away from her apartment.
Napoleon - December 30, 2003 11:48 PM (GMT)
Sefton gave a nod, reaching with her other hand to stroke her chin as if she had a beard, or something. Apparently she hadn't really thought about Dockett's intentions very clearly. There's not need to mention that, had she not had so many strong drinks, she would have figured out the truth in a jiffy.
"Ah, see, I knew that," Sef said, grinning once again as well as wrapping her other arm her other arm around his neck. "I knew it, I knew it, ha ha I knew it!"
General Tao - December 31, 2003 12:05 AM (GMT)
Dockett smiled down at her drunken awkwardness. So human. So lovely. He slowly directed her to the door of her building, which they had already walked up to, and made her stand up on her own. He placed his hands on her shoulder for a moment, to make sure she wouldn't fall, before looking in her pockets.
"Sefton, where are the keys to your apartment?" He asked softly, wrapping his arms around her so she wouldn't teeter or fall. He spoke gently in her ear. "Is it in the coat you had? The one you stole?"
Napoleon - December 31, 2003 12:27 AM (GMT)
Another quirk about Sefton as a drunk woman; she had impeccable balance when standing still. Clearing her throat pointedly, she reached into her back pocket slowly and came up with a pair of keys. She dangled them in front of Dockett's face and then fumbled with them to find the one that would unlock her appartment door.
" I might be drunk, but I'm not an airhead," Sefton stated with a smirk that resembled more her sober self.
((D'you think we should continue this in the appartment complex?))
