The door swung open and the bell chimed that let everyone know someone new had walked into the coffee shop. Do they honestly need those? It just makes everyone stare at the door to see if they know them or not.

She walked up to the counter and began looking at the menu overhead. Perhaps she would try something new today rather than her normal regular coffee with French vanilla added in for extra flavoring. So many choices. It wasn’t right for a coffee shop to have so many different choices. Made it even harder to break away from the usual. Because what if she liked them all? Then she’d have an even harder time picking the next time she came in.

”Just a regular coffee with French vanilla.” Yep. There was no denying she wasn’t going to break away from her favorite coffee selection. Being a Saturday, Alia was not wearing her normal work attire and was actually in a relaxed pair of jeans and a dark green t-shirt that read “Id10t” in white lettering. Of course it was a computer joke. Not many people seemed to understand it. White tennis shoes were on her feet and her shoulder length blonde hair tied back into a small ponytail.

"French vanilla? Cream or sugar?"

Alister leaned up against the counter, watching Alia. He'd seen her come in. He'd actually heard her come in before he saw her, but same difference.

He was wearing his usual uniform with the nametag ALISTER on it in big, capital letters. His red hair was pulled into a loose ponytail, and his eyes didn't look sad today. Mainly just bored.

He looked so familiar at his height, like the kid you babysat when you were younger all grown up. He's got a face that catches your attention just because of that. Would he be familiar to Alia...?

He rocked forward on his toes, making him appear an inch taller. He waited for her to speak again.

”Both please.” She pulled out her wallet from her purse and dished out the money for her coffee. Inside not only was her wallet but a small book right beside it, travel size. It was doubtful that the woman went anywhere without a book handy. You could never tell when there would be a free moment to just open up a book and read for a while to pass the time.

Perhaps he would have seemed familiar to her if she actually did baby sit kids when she was a teenager like most teenage girls did. But she did. One of the many things she did not do as a child because her parents were wealthy and she was left home a lot. The only reason he might look familiar is if he’s worked here on a day she’d been here before, which was most likely a more probably answer.

”Work here a lot?” His face wasn’t entirely familiar, but you know when you get that feeling like you’ve had someone wait on you before.

"'Kay."

And he turned and sort of shuffled away, grabbing her coffee and mixing it. As he did so he rocked forward on his toes again. It was something he did when he was antsy or bored.

As he went to work making her coffee, he talked.

"Uhm, I guesso." Delicate shrug.

"Why?"

She shrugged at his reply.

”I don’t know. Just wondered I guess. I come here a lot. Would have thought I’d seen you before.” Of course most of the time her face was buried in a book at one of the tables near the front windows.

"Might've. It's a possibilty. Dunno if I've seen you before."

He was finished with her coffe, so turned and put it on the counter. "There you go. Will that be all?" It was required he say that.

”I don’t blame you if you haven’t. My face is usually buried in a book.” She said slightly laughing as he came back to give her the coffee.

”Yes thanks.” She handed over the money and stuck her wallet back in her purse.

He grinned. "Books aren't bad." He gave another delicate shrug, took the money and put it in the cash register.

"All right, then. Take care."

Even though she seemed nice, therefore he sort of wanted her to stay.

”No they are not.” She agreed with his opinion about books. Books were not bad at all. In fact they were very helpful, especially in her line of work.

”You to.” And she would stay actually. She always stayed at least for a half hour. Taking her cup of coffee she went over to her favorite table by the front windows of the shop and sat down pulling her book out from her purse. She took a drink of her coffee and then opened her book and began reading just like any other day she dropped by the shop.
