Title: Just when you thought it was over
Description: -Sammie
Danie - November 18, 2005 06:54 PM (GMT)
Another day, another... whim of Jetta's for Teague to satisfy.
He wishes she could just tell him what she wants without making him come to her (like a well-trained dog) to ask , but he knows very well that that's just not how things work. In a weird way, he understands her need to be bothersome. After all, she's doing something for him that she considers bothersome.
But , in his opinion, there's no need to be vindictive about it...
SammieK - November 18, 2005 07:01 PM (GMT)
Of course there's need to be vindictive about it. Jetta likes being vindictive. Not only is it fun, but it is also a way to point out the enormity of the 'favor' that she is doing Teague.
Bah.
Also, she's annoyed with the entire world right now, and of course Teague is the nearest person to take it out upon.
She smiles at him and waves cheerfully.
"You can find people, right, pet?"
Danie - November 18, 2005 07:04 PM (GMT)
"...Yes." He nods. "Who did you want me to find?"
He's guessing it's someone she can't find in a telephone book.
...or else it is and she's just asking him for the sake of being a pain in the neck.
With Jetta, he can never be sure.
SammieK - November 18, 2005 07:34 PM (GMT)
"Hunter."
He was unconscionably rude and disappeared without leaving a way for her to contact him.
How dare he? How dare he pull the same trick on her as she pulls on numerous unsuspecting boys? How dare he?
Jetta, by the way, is completely unaware of the irony.
Danie - November 18, 2005 07:36 PM (GMT)
"Oh."
He winces slightly.
"That might be a bit... difficult."
SammieK - November 21, 2005 06:44 PM (GMT)
She folds her arms and lifts a carefully plucked eyebrow.
"Do it anyway."
Sulky girl, isn't she.
Danie - November 21, 2005 06:52 PM (GMT)
"Oh, very well," he sighs, and looks around.
"I don't suppose you keep any tree sap on hand, do you?"
SammieK - November 21, 2005 06:53 PM (GMT)
She blinks.
"Are you trying to be funny, hon?"
Totally unnish, remember?
Danie - November 21, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)
"No." He shook his head. "Look, I'll - if I'm going to find him for you, I'll...have to get a few things. Give me an hour or so, then I'll come back and we'll see what can be done."
SammieK - November 21, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
She pouts at him and sighs.
"Oh, all right. But only one hour, 'kay? I'm in a hurry."
She doesn't want to forget the particularly nasty bits of what she wants to say to Hunter.
Danie - November 21, 2005 10:48 PM (GMT)
"Right. See you soon."
And away he goes.
He comes back, before the promised hour is out, holding a paper bag with quite a little assortment of objects. Beeswax candles, a little jug of maple syrup, ... you know. Teague knocks at the door to Jetta's apartment.
"Okay. I'm back. Let's" sigh "-call Hunter, then, shall we?"
SammieK - November 21, 2005 10:50 PM (GMT)
Jetta looks at the assortment of objects with an expression of disdain and raises her eyebrows.
"Can't you just use a phone or something?"
Like normal people?
Danie - November 21, 2005 11:00 PM (GMT)
"Nope. Not in this case."
First of all, he doesn't know where Hunter is, exactly, and second, if he did, how would he possibly know his phone number?
...Right?
"...Anyway. I have to use your kitchen. Would you go open a window, and then,er... go into the next room over? I'll tell you when he's here." He looks hopefully at her. She's unnish and he's trying to keep her that way as long as possible.
Which, at this rate, won't be very long.
SammieK - November 21, 2005 11:04 PM (GMT)
"What are you going to do in my kitchen?"
Also, she's not about to let him do just anything in there. Besides, she doesn't trust him. Despite having him in her pocket, so to speak.
"What are you hiding, pet?"
Danie - November 21, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
"Well, I'm going to call him, like you asked," Teague says simply, beginning to empty the contents of the bag out onto the floor. "Actually, more than you asked because I'm going to call him here. For a short time, anyway."
He finished strewing the bag's contents on the floor, and slipped off his jeans - yes, he's wearing swim trunks underneath. Geez.
He blinked up at her.
"Oh, and you might want to change into a swimsuit."
Pause.
"Just a swimsuit. Wash your makeup off, too."
SammieK - November 21, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)
"What, is this a strip tease? It isn't working." Meanie.
She washes her makeup off in the kitchen sink and casually disrobes in front of him. Her underwear is meant to be seen anyway. It's the expensive stuff from the Victoria's Secret kind of stores.
"Good enough, honey? I don't want to go hunting for my suit; it's probably packed."
Danie - November 21, 2005 11:21 PM (GMT)
"Yeah, it'll do," Teague shrugged, seeming remarkably uninterested. While she'd been undressing, he'd shrugged off his coat and shirt. Last to go were those raggedy fingerless gloves - he was very reluctant to take them off, but did so anyway. There were little pinkish scars on the backs of his hands - writing of some kind.
He uncapped the syrup, and began painting a circle on the floor with it using a stick.
"I'll clean up afterwards," he said, before Jetta could protest.
SammieK - November 21, 2005 11:25 PM (GMT)
She folds her arms. (His lack of interest is acceptable. She's pregnant. If she hadn't been, she would have had to take drastic measures.)
"You'd better."
Also, she has decided that he is thoroughly crazy, and this is going to be such a waste of time. It would be easier to hire a private investigator or something.
Danie - November 21, 2005 11:33 PM (GMT)
He draws the circle, places the candles, ..sets some oak leaves (unfortunately dead and more yellow than green) on fire. Some smoke is caught in a jar, the fire is doused, and Teague steps back and twists the jar closed.
"...That ought to do it..."
SammieK - November 21, 2005 11:34 PM (GMT)
She still looks skeptical, and is perched on the counter with a raised eyebrow.
"Do what?"
Wysteria - November 22, 2005 12:36 AM (GMT)
It is, and I kid you not, an elevator. It comes out of Jetta's floor, opens oldfashioned worked-iron doors, and Hunter steps out, blinking. He looks at Teague, blinks, looks at Jetta, whistles, and grins.
"I love it when it's the beautiful women who do that." He twiddles his fingers at Jetta. "Hey, babe." He's in an old-fashioned, steel-grey business suit, over a dark blue shirt, of all things.
Teague is ignored mostly because.. well... Hunter doesn't like people who summon him, just as a rule. It irritates.
The elevator melts back into her floor.
SammieK - November 22, 2005 12:40 AM (GMT)
Jetta's face is blank for exactly fourteen and a half seconds and then she shakes her head and leans back and almost screams. But she can't do that in front of Teague. It is not acceptable.
Instead, she looks at the floor, at Teague, then at Hunter.
"How did you do that?"
Wysteria - November 22, 2005 01:15 AM (GMT)
"Top secret government science involving aliens?" He offered with a disarming grin.
"It's just the job, babe." Ah, the mysterious 'job'.
Danie - November 30, 2005 01:53 AM (GMT)
((Sorry to keep you waiting so long. I was kidnapped by term papers and quizzes and portfolios and such,...and I had to give the modem back to my mom until the router got fixed. Which was today, so yay.))
Teague simply shrugged - it's not in his nature to look awed at anything, even if an elevator coming up through the floor was hardly something to be expected. He eyed the messily-folded pile he'd made of his clothes, wondering if it would offend if he were to put them back on,...and hoping not, because he started to anyway.
He glanced over at Jetta as he tugged his shirt over his head.
"Not to interrupt, but now that I've called him for you - is there anything else you need me for, or can I go?"
SammieK - December 2, 2005 07:09 PM (GMT)
Jetta ignores him. This is because he is unimportant, as compared to Hunter. Or the fact that an elevator of which there is now no sign came up through her floor. That can't be possible, can it?
"Job?"
She doesn't remember the job.
Also, she didn't take him seriously.
Wysteria - December 2, 2005 07:19 PM (GMT)
"I go where my work takes me." Understatement!
"So what can I do for you folks today?" Hunter as the young businessman / salesman type, earnest, serious, friendly? Hilarious, though he does pull it off well.
"Oh, and Teague? Do stay, there's a good chap, I'll need you later." Summoning should be undone by the summoner, technically.
And maybe Hunter wants to talk to Teague about fatherhood again.
Hunter is such a busybody.
Danie - December 2, 2005 07:40 PM (GMT)
"Alright then," he nods. And ambles over to lean against the counter, crossing his arms over his chest and just... waiting. He's very patient. Not that he doesn't have limits - everyone has their limits - but he can wait around for quite a long time, without a twitch.
SammieK - December 2, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
Jetta takes his question as a cue to start scolding him.
... which would frankly be tedious to relate and not very interesting to read, and therefore I shall leave it to your fertile imaginations to imagine what she said.
I'm sure it got repetitive, too, mostly variations on 'you left me without a word!'
Wysteria - December 2, 2005 08:01 PM (GMT)
"My replacement turned up rather unexpectedly. I didn't have much prior notice, babe."
Dum dum dum.
Hunter is being vague. This is out of self-interest. Explaining innishness and godliness takes time, and time is not something he has.
Him being here is going to mess the weather up something awful. For the record.
Does he look apologetic? No? Aww.
He does look earnest, if that's a help.
Pause. "How's the sprogling?" I think that nickname for the baby's going to be around for a while. Yay baby. Circle of life. Hunter is all about the circle of life.
SammieK - December 2, 2005 08:09 PM (GMT)
Jetta ignores the question about the baby. It doesn't matter to her, except as an inconvenience and a leash for Teague.
She pouts at Hunter adorably instead.
"You could have called me and told me where you'd gone."
She abuses italics when she's angry.
Wysteria - December 2, 2005 08:17 PM (GMT)
"Technology and I are not on the best of terms."
The upstart.
(A tad bitter? Maybe just a bit.)
"As for where? At the moment, the tropics. I'm moving on south within the month, I hope." If spring would get on with it, anyway....
He sounds far more distant than he might normally be. But then, this is Hunter on the job, and his attention is far, far away. Most of it, anyway.
SammieK - December 2, 2005 08:33 PM (GMT)
And there is Jealousy.
Pout!
"I bet you're seeing someone else down there."
... it is incredible to me how she manages that tone of injured indignation when she does exactly the same thing. Except for the going to another part of the world to do it, of course.
Wysteria - December 2, 2005 08:58 PM (GMT)
Blink. "I am not!"
Aww, Hunter is an indignant (and hurt) little boy.
Well. For a given value of little.
And now he's all sulky.
Look, Jetta, you got him to show some emotion.
SammieK - December 2, 2005 09:01 PM (GMT)
She doesn't believe him. It is very obvious that she doesn't believe him. She folds her arms and gives him a sweet little 'I don't believe you' glare.
Of course.
Fidelity--for a given value of fidelity--is a completely foreign concept to her.
I bet her parents were unfaithful to each other, you know?
Wysteria - December 2, 2005 09:11 PM (GMT)
There's a muscle in his jaw, and it is twitching. For the record.
And his expression is darkening to 'I am very pissed off' mode. Including whitening nostils and that way his eyes look rather golden as the light strikes them. As opposed to warm, dark brown.
He doesn't say anything for a moment (yay staring contest).
He breaths out slowly. (Much of these physical reactions are for dramatic effect. Woo.)
"Jetta, I am not seeing anyone else. Is that clear?" This is a very flat tone.
He felt like crushing something. What something has yet to be determined.
He switches his gaze to Teague, and that expression could be called a glare. Yep, definitely a glare. C'mon, Teague, give him an excuse to get violent. He can't hurt the girl while she's carrying the sprog.
Teague, however, is very much fair game.
Danie - December 2, 2005 09:25 PM (GMT)
Teague blinks, giving Hunter his best 'don't look at me, I'm not the one going out with you, and this wasn't my idea anyway' look.
"Ahem,...er,... I'll just,...I think I'll just let you two sort this out, shall I?"
He begins moving in the direction of the next room, trying to get out from under the god's angry stare.
SammieK - December 2, 2005 09:28 PM (GMT)
Oh, well, if Hunter insists that he isn't seeing anyone else, then of course she has to accept that. Of course.
Watch out for the puddle of sarcasm on the floor. I think I overdid the dripping part.
"If you say so, honey."
She pouts at him some more.
Wysteria - December 2, 2005 09:37 PM (GMT)
"Babe, would I lie to you?"
The answer? Yes. Yes he would.
Ahem.
He seems to have (outwardly) calmed down.
But as with, say, a forest fire, it's died down, not died.
SammieK - December 2, 2005 10:24 PM (GMT)
She arches an eyebrow.
Jetta is a bitch, but she isn't trusting and she isn't stupid.
"Of course you would, darling. The question is whether you're lying now."
Catsmile, there.
Wysteria - December 2, 2005 11:28 PM (GMT)
Grin. Jetta at her best, that was. Hunter's mood has improved. Jetta is fun.
He spreads his hands, caught out. "Got it in one, but not about the seeing someone else bit." Eyebrow, full of implication. "Top secret business, my job is. Ask your toy over there if you don't believe me on that one."
He nods in the direction Teague left.
He doesn't say boytoy, very intentionally. Toy doesn't have the same connotations, even if it is just as accurate.
