Title: something is burning
Description: for Junior

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
The engines rolled up on the scene. The pumper truck had stopped to fill it's tanks. The building was already completely ablaze. There were still people in there.

Scott went into the bulding with a group of others. It was hot anyway from the blaze, but the heavy bunker gear also made him sweat as he jogged down the hallway and busted down a metal door too hot to touch so he could free the people on the other side and help them to safety. "Keep low and follow me." he said, to the figure silhoutted by flames.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 01:14 AM (GMT)
It was the day after the last night of the three days for the full moon. She was here by herself cleaning up the mess that was left. She was currently in the laundry room with a few other people putting some stuff into the washers when the strong scent of smoke came to her nose. What the hell? The metal door was closed. She glanced towards it and saw smoke coming through it. Over to the door only to find it was shut tightly as well as too hot to touch. A scream came from behind her and she whipped around to find that the room was already starting to have flames leaking in.

She rushed over to the screaming woman to try to keep her calm when the door was suddenly burst open. Just in the nick of time too. The flames were filling the room rather quickly. Thank god for small miracles she thought to herself as she listened to the firefighter. The smoke was starting to get to her very badly. Her sensitive sense of smell was the cause of that. She did as she was told and ducked down to follow him out.

"I'm getting dizzy..." she warned as she went.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 01:28 AM (GMT)
Nate met them in the hall and motioned for people to follow, the smoke and blackness made it hard to see and so Scott's friend used his flashlight like a beacon. Three people followed the other fire fighter swiftly and were soon a few meters ahead of Scott and the female. "The air is thin, try to keep your breathing rythymed." he warned looking over his shoulder to her.

The others were in safe hands, for the moment she was his worry, that and getting them both out of here as more and more of the building burned. As he looked forward again black crumbling flakes of the ceiling began to make a fine particulate rain ahead of him. The celing was caving in quickly and they were still a long ways from the exit.

Instinctively he reached out with his mind and turned the particles and chunks of ceiling to liquid, it fell and poured harmlessly and choked some of the flames. The air however remained thick as they crept forward. He turned to look back. "How you doing back there?" he asked.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
The animal in her wanted so badly to panic and run. Very badly. It should have been sleeping peacefully mind you. However, the smoke had caused it to waken fully. No worries though. She's not letting it out. That would cause more of a panic than the fire probably. It doesn't want to come out right now anyway. It is, however, panicking inside of her and causing her breathing to be a bit more irratic than it should be.

"I... don't know..." she managed to answer as he asked how she was doing. "It's... it's getting to me..." Her words almost sound as irratic as her breathing. This is one of those times that she really wishes there wasn't an animal living inside of her.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 01:42 AM (GMT)
He reached out towards her with an arm, but he didn't give her a choice on accepting it. He drew her to him with it wrapping it carefully around her. There wasn't much time left, and she seemed ready to panic. "Stay close." he said. Not like it needed to be said while he held her and guided her out. He was speaking merely to speak in his most reassuring voice. "We'll be out soon, just hang on." he soothed. While Scott can be a complete jerk, he's a good fireman when he's on scene, and he knows how to coax people in such situations.

He kept guiding her towards where he knew the exit was. They reached it only to find it blocked with debris. The walls were starting to crumble and more of what was left of the roof. He didn't have time to hack a path through that door way with one of the emergency axes. "You trust me?" he asked seing the look on her face at the blocked door.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 01:47 AM (GMT)
If this had been any other time, the animal inside of her would have growled and quite possibly snapped at the man touching her human host. However, the beast was in a bit of a state of panic and somehow recognized that this human was trying to help.

Upon reaching the closed off exit, she could feel the animal going into even more of a panic. Her eyes widened with horror at the thought of burning alive in the building. "Yes..." she managed to answer as he asked if she trusted him. It didn't seem that she had much of a choice at the present time really. So, yes, she had to trust him. "I do..."

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 01:55 AM (GMT)
"I'm going to pick you up, keep your eyes closed and cover your face." he warned her and picked her up. Once he got her positioned he took off at a run, ran straight up on the debris melting it as he went.

He ran out through the opening he'd made and out into smokey twilight. Careful to not let go of, or bump his nervous cargo.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 01:59 AM (GMT)
Nervous was a bit of an understatement really. The beast is in a total state of panic. The woman is trying not to let that panic sink into her own mind. Some of it has though. Can't help it. When two beings reside in the same body, they can't help but end up sharing feelings sometimes. This is one of those times. Ylva's panic isn't near the state that the beast's is though.

She squealed slightly as he picked her up even though he warned her that he was going to. Mismatch colored eyes closed tightly and she covered them with her hands. The moment they were outside and clear of the fire, the woman took in a gasping breath. Her breathing still very much irratic. Her hands still covering her face.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 02:04 AM (GMT)
Scott was breathing pretty hard himself as he crouched and eased her down. He braced her in case her knees gave out, just because she wasn't injured didn't mean she wasn't in shock, fires were often a very traumatic experience, loss, grief and fear could cause enough stress for shock. "You feel less dizzy, or should I get you over to the ambulance?" he asked softly.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 02:08 AM (GMT)
Slowly, she uncovered her face as he set her down. Her legs felt pretty wobbly and she reached out to put a hand on his shoulder. She started to shake her head no in reply to him asking if she felt less dizzy until he mentioned ambulance.

"No..." she replied through her gasping in the cool air. "I... I don't need the ambulance. I... I'll be alright." Sure. She'll be alright until she realizes that the building that she gets locked in the basement for three nights out of every month just burned to the ground.

"Th... thanks..." she says before lowering her butt entirely to the ground. She felt better sitting down. She could still feel the smoke in her lungs. The animal inside still feeling like it's in a high state of panic.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 02:17 AM (GMT)
Scott started looking around when she turned down the ambulance he couldn't make her go, she wasn't in obvious need of care but her breaths still worried him. He didn't see Nate, or he would have flagged him down, at leat teh other fireman was also an EMT and more qualified to make an assesment, but he wasn't obvious at the moment.

The building was now only a smoking shell as the pumper truck rained water on it. "Should I contact someone to come get you?" he offered awkwardly. He wasn't entirely sure she was alright.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
She shook her head slightly as he offered to contact someone to come get her. She wasn't sure if Pierce was at home or work and didn't want to be a bother if he was at work. "No," she said quietly. "I... I'll be okay." Mentally, she was trying to calm the animal inside. She had finally gotten to the point where she quit referring to the beast as 'it' but she'd still not yet come to terms enough to call it 'wolf'.

Her throat felt parched. "Would it be possible to get a dri..." Her words cut off as she actually looked at the building. "Fuck..." she stammered in a stunned voice. What was she going to do now? The basement was ruined. The building was ruined. "Fuck..." she muttered again, staring at the building in disbelief. Pierce was not going to be happy in the least to find out that not only had one of his buildings burned down but the very building that was her safety for three nights out of each month.

Her wide, mismatch colored eyes turned to the fireman that had helped her. "What... what caused it??"

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 02:30 AM (GMT)
"I don't know yet, chief and that dectective over there may, that guy is the local arson specialist, doesn't mean it was a firebug, but if it was he'll find out. What were you going to ask?" Scott asked her softly pulling off his helmet. His hair was wet and his face was covered in soot in spite of that protctive shield that pulled down in front of the helemt. His blue eyes locked on hers still trying to ascertain if she was okay. His hair and mustach are so dirty from the fire you'd not know he was strawberry blond.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 02:35 AM (GMT)
A deep frown came to her face as she listened. She knew that the electric lines throughout the building were all brand new. They had all recently been replaced. The place had been closed down for a time for all the work to be completed. That was one of the good parts of being the girlfriend of the man who owns the building... and several others. "Pierce is going to be so not happy..." she muttered as she finally moved her gaze away from the fireman and back to the smouldering building. What was left of it anyway.

"Oh... I... um... I was going to ask for a drink if possible," she answered. "My throat... it hurts."

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 02:39 AM (GMT)
He nodded and made his way to the ambulance. the coolers would be near there. He took off his gloves as he walked and stuffed them into the headband of his helmet.

On reaching the coolers he eached into the one that sports bottles of water floated in and grabbed two. He walked back holding the bottles by the necks in one hand, his helmet in the other. He crouched again and held the bottle out to her.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
She was still staring at what was left of the building when he left and came back. She glanced over at him as he crouched and held out a bottle of water to her. She blinked a few times almost as if she was trying to register what was going on. Yes. She's slightly in shock at the moment. Freaked out about having lost the only place she felt safe in for three nights out of every month.

Then it seemed to click. This was the fireman that had gotten her out of the burning building and she had asked for something to drink. Stay in the here and now Ylva. "Thanks," she said as she reached out to take the bottle. She started drinking the cool water inside. Perhaps a bit too fast even.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 02:55 AM (GMT)
He watched her drink. "Easy." he cautioned softly.

The chief walked over. " We have a ruling on how it started. So we can clear the scene." the chie told Scott.

Scott nodded. "How did it start?" he asked he remembered she'd wanted to know.

"Bad power strip, guess the surge protector part that should have told it to turn off cause it was to hot was bad. Arson guy has it in an evidence bag. Didn't help that it was wedged in behind an entertainment center made of pressed wood, like propping a match against kindling. Accidental though. Which will smooth out someone's insurance kinks." He said.

Scott nodded again. "Can I borrow your car chief? My new friend here, It hink she needs a lift." he told his boss.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 03:03 AM (GMT)
Her face began to look a bit on the green side as she forced herself to stop drinking. Goodness. She really shouldn't have drank so fast. Head tilted upwards as she listened to the man that had come over to talk to the man that had gotten her out of the building.

"Shit..." she muttered. "Pierce is really not going to be happy. He owns this building. At least it was accidental though. If it wasn't, he'd be even more upset." He's put a lot of money into this building. Damn it.

A wave of nausia flooded over her just then and she leaned away from the two men. The poor girl proceeded to puke all over the ground next to where she was sitting. Not just the water, but everything her beast had eaten the previous night. Raw meat. Yum. Not.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 11:51 AM (GMT)
The cheif snorted. "Here, get her out of here." he said tossing Scott his keys. Then he shouted. Clemmons bring a hose over here."

Scott caught the keys and stooped to help the women up and away from all this.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 11:58 AM (GMT)
Why did she keep staring at what was left of the building? Why couldn't she seem to tear her gaze away from it? Who know. She surely didn't. Shock perhaps.

She did finally end up tearing her gaze away from it though. She didn't have a whole lot of choice in the matter it seemed as the fireman that had pulled her from within the burning building stooped down to help her up. She placed a hand on his arm and got to her feet. She stood there for a moment to let her legs colelct under her. Then she turned to follow him to whatever vehicle he was going to be driving.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 12:23 PM (GMT)
It was a nice new burgundy crown victoria, easy to pick out from all the other vehicles because of the shield on both doors and the rack of red and blue emergency lights on top. The chief's car. Scott unlocked her door and helped her in before doing any thing else.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 12:26 PM (GMT)
As they head to the car, she glances over her shoulder every so often to look at that damn burned building. It's like she's not really believing what she's seeing at the moment even though this fireman helped her out of the burning thing.

"Thank you," she says quietly as she slides into the seat and automatically buckles her seat belt.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 12:48 PM (GMT)
Scott gently shuts her door and nods He walks around and unlocks the driver side door and tosses his gloves and helmet into the back seat. He climbs in himself and puts on his own seatbelt. He puts the key into the ignition but doesn't engage teh engine yet. "Where am I taking you?" he asks.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 12:57 PM (GMT)
She sat there for a couple of moments with an almost dumb look on her face as his quite simple question slowly sank into her mind.

"Oh... I... um..."

Pause.

"Live several blocks that way."

She points in a direction.

"I should go there. Home I mean."

Poor thing.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 01:07 PM (GMT)
He nods "You should go home, which is why I'm taking you." the fireman agrees with her. He really probably should have made her get checked out. He looked back towards teh scene behind them and watched Nate Clemmons spary vomit down a sewer drain. He wasn't going to wave the EMT down at his point. he sighed and turned on the car. "You'll have to tell me, when I get there." he said before glancing around to pull into the road. He'd better be careful with chief's car he knew.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 01:15 PM (GMT)
She would have insisted still that she was fine and didn't want to see anyone. She has a fear of medical people. She avoids them at all costs. Blame it on the animal in her.

She nods her head ever so slightly. She does still feel a bit dizzy but isn't going to say so. "I will," she says and watches out the window on her side as he pulls the car away from the swarm of vehicles and people. "It's not too far. Six blocks is all."

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 01:20 PM (GMT)
The fireman simply nodded and drove. He wasn't the pushy sort lucky for her, or maybe unlucky if there is anything serious wrong. There isn't much traffic as they first move away from the scene but it seems police are diverting it, otherwise there'd be a throng of rubberneckers watching the blaze and it's aftermath. It does not take Scott long to drive six blocks, even with the deliberate caution he's driving with in chief's car.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 01:24 PM (GMT)
She's spaced out entirely as the fireman drives the six blocks. Two more blocks are passed before she blinks a few times, bringing herself back to the here and now once more.

"Crap," she says with a scowl. It's not him that the scowl is for. It's for herself. "We passed it. I'm sorry." She tells him exactly which building it is and the color of it. "I'm sorry," she mutters again.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 01:29 PM (GMT)
"I'm pretty sure you're in shock." he informed here. Actually at this point he's absolutely possitive, so now he can't ignore it. He pulls around the current block in order to turnhimself around. Her building and the hospital both lie in the other direction. Now he just needs to decide which one to take her to.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 01:36 PM (GMT)
"No... I... I'm okay," she says not very convincingly. "Really." Not. "I need to go home. And shower. And sleep." Sleep. It sounds so good.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 01:43 PM (GMT)
"Is anyone else going to be there?" he asked. They were once again practiaclly on top of the building.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 01:46 PM (GMT)
"No..." she said ever so quietly. She had finally remembered that Pierce was working tonight. That meant Dagger was with him too. That meant the apartment would be entirely quiet. "My boyfriend is, more likely than not, at work."

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 01:56 PM (GMT)
Scott let out a long sigh. His gut told him the hospital was in order. He looked over at her. "You expect me to drop you off and leave you alone, while I'm pretty sure you're in shock? You realize if anything happens to you the department will be liable and it'll be my job?" he asks tiredly. He doesn't care that much about his job, he just got demoted over misconduct, he does care about possibly getting his boss in trouble though, chief doesn't deserve the sort of headache something bad might cause.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 04:23 PM (GMT)
She couldn't keep the frown from creeping deeply onto her face. "I... I'm sorry..." she says softly. "It's just... I... I'm scared of hospitals and doctors and things that go on in those places..."

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
"You know if they'd triaged you back there they'd have put you on oxygen and probably made you rest a spell, not admitted you, but they wouldn't have let you leave till you weren't a hazard to yourself." he told her. He was tempted to go back to the scene and let Clemmons deal with this, after all Nate was Mr. Nice Guy not Scott. He sighed and tried to figure out what he should do.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
"A hazard to myself?" she questioned. "How would I be a hazard to myself?"

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
"Things happen to people in shock, impaired judgement and a metobolism that's out of whack. I suspect for starters you might still be dizzy." He said going over what bits he can remember. Damn it he should have made Clemmons deal with this.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
She blinked a couple of times before answering him.

"I... um..." she stuttered. "Yeah... a little..." Dizzy that is.

K-Squared - September 27, 2005 10:34 PM (GMT)
He parked in front of the building. He wasn't about to just leave her alone though, he was going to make sure she got settled safely.

oneofmanysouls - September 27, 2005 10:39 PM (GMT)
"Am I allowed to know the name of my rescuer?" she asked as she made no move yet to get out of the car.
