Title: Left in darkness
Description: for Junior
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 12:48 AM (GMT)
You ever have a day where you just knew you shouldn't get out of bed? Viv was having exactly that sort of day. It started off good, but she still knew she should just lie there. It was raining, pattering a lullubay on her roof and Uriel was asleep in her apartment. Two sources of comfort, grounds enough to stay put.
Viv didn't stay in bed though. She got up to go take some repair jobs, though as it rained harder and grew colder during the day, she really regretted getting out of bed more and more. She was still having an issue with regulating her temperature, and by midday she was pretty cold. By nightfall in the cool temperatures, she was absolutely freezing.
She was loading her tools up from he last job and getting ready to go home when it happened. Someone got the jump on her. Someone sneaky, that she didn't hear over her own teeth chattering. She should be much more paranoid, with her father on the loose, but he seems to keep catching her with her guard down. He keeps hopping in and sapping her of all her energy before leaving. She gets, so cold she's blue and hardly breathing each time he does it as well.
She hasn't out right put a stop to it yet, because she really is hoping to catch him. Too bad it hasn't gone as planned.
Tonight when he ditches her body he decides to be particularly cruel about it. Out on the roadside someone has thrown out a large chest freezer. Mac had made her lie down in it while he controlled her body and then exited with all her magical energy once he had. That was where he left her, in the darkness of that freezer, with the top closed over her blue frigid form.

Enyo has had those types of days before. Not too many lately though. Not since moving in with Cheddar. Things seem to actually be going okay for her for the most part. She does find herself wondering how Morose was doing and such. She’d not yet told him about her having moved out of the apartment and in with the demon. Surely he’s probably noticed by now though that she’s no longer at the very empty apartment. She’s made herself a mental note to find him to let him know before he gets to worrying too much that she vanished or something.
It’s raining tonight. She’s not fond of going out in the rain. So why is she doing so tonight? To be honest, she’s not entirely sure. A strange nagging feeling came over her and caused her to leave the warmth of Cheddar’s arms. This vampire does not own any clothing that isn’t dresses or skirts. And so, tonight, she is wearing a long black dress with thin straps over the shoulders and low cut in the back. She is, however, wearing a sort of trench coat over top of her dress so that she doesn’t get soaked to the skin. Her hair is braided and resting over her shoulder, trailing down the front of her.
One might think that the vampress was merely wandering aimlessly through the city in the pouring rain. In a sense, she really is. However, she seems to be following a nagging feeling within herself. Where is it taking her? She honestly does not know but is not questioning it either. Something is wrong. She can feel it. Just what it is, she is unsure of. She’ll find out when she reaches where she is going. Sasha is at her side. Her ever faithful companion. Always going where her vampire goes.
What’s that ahead? On the side of the road? The vampress moves towards it. Sasha does something that she has never done to her vampire and bolts away from her towards the thing on the side of the road. Enyo follows her. Sasha is pawing at the side of it and whining. Very curious. Something causes the vampress to reach down and open the large chest freezer. A sharp gasp escapes from her the moment it’s open.
“Vivienne?” she says in a startled voice and reaches inside to begin to lift the woman out of the box. Yes, Enyo knows her name only because of Cheddar. “What the hell happened to you?”
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 01:20 AM (GMT)
Viv can barely hear, someone is talking to her, and she nods, but she hasn't the strength to open her eyes, or even speak. She is so cold and blue, one might wonder if the freezer isn't plugged in somewhere.
Sasha continues her pawing and whines as she does.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 01:26 AM (GMT)
“My gosh,” Enyo mutters as she lifts the woman out of the box. “You feel colder than I do when I’ve not fed.” She takes her trench off and wraps it around the woman’s shoulders once she’s out of the box and Enyo has set her down on the closed door. Enyo is so not as fragile as she looks.
“Sasha, sit,” the vampress says to the dog to get her to stop. Sasha whines one more time and then does as she’s told. However, she’s moved herself closer to the freezing woman and has pressed herself against the woman’s legs.
“What can I do to help, Vivienne? We need to get you out of this rain.”
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 05:44 AM (GMT)
While I'm sure Vivienne would agree, she isn't in a position where she can right now. A few houses down her truck remains parked, amazingly, since the keys hang out of the lock in the driver's side door.
It seems as if Vivienne tries to open her eyes, her eyelids seem to jerk and jump in a way they wouldn't from dreams. They do not open though. In fact her breathing is so shallow, so hard to peercieve he teeth don't even chatter as she does it.
The cold hard rain is begining to fill the dented in top to the old frezzer, pools of water form around Vivienne.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 05:50 AM (GMT)
The vampress just happens to lift her gaze from the freezing mage and looks around. She remembers what Vivienne’s truck looks like thankfully. Enyo reaches down to get the mage up off the freezer and starts to head for the truck. She doesn’t even have to call the dog along cause the dog is already following.
If there were to have been any passer-by’s at the moment, they probably would have found it quite an odd sight to see the dainty woman carrying someone obviously taller than her. She gets to the truck and manages to open the passenger side door. Vivienne is carefully placed inside. The vampress makes sure she’s put in the middle of the seat. Sasha shakes as much water off of herself and hops in next to the mage. Enyo goes around to the other side and gets in.
Enyo is at a loss for what to do at the moment. She doesn’t drive. Never learned. Never had to.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 06:08 AM (GMT)
This should be interesting. Vivienne is in now shape to talk her throught the rudiments at all. In fact she can't even explain ho to turn the truck on and crank the heat. Even that would be helpful. Vivienne has unfortunately, reached a point so low, it could be weeks before she recovers energy. She won't die, but she was deliberately drainewd this much, she can't siphone from energy sources in this state. In fact it will be a while before she wakes up, without intervention at any rate.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 06:10 AM (GMT)
Thankfully the vampire is smart enough to know how to turn on the truck and does just that. Then she reaches over to crank the heat as high as it’ll go. Sasha has placed herself nearly entirely atop of the freezing woman in an attempt to help warm her. What a good dog.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 06:13 AM (GMT)
While this does help, the heat seeping in to Viv's body does o at an extremely slow rate. At least after about twenty minutes the woman is dry, though she is still blue. Enyo doesn't have the luxury of sitting here till sunup for Viv to get warm. The truck doesn't have enough gas for it either.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 06:37 AM (GMT)
The vampress is sitting there with a deep frown on her face as she tries to think of what to do for the woman. She knows she can’t sit here all night long waiting for Vivienne to come around. That would be totally disastrous for the vampress.
She sits there watching the woman for a few more moments. She’s watching Vivienne’s face. She’s noticed the woman’s eyes moving and such under closed eyelids. Hmmm...
The vampire closes her eyes for a moment and opens them again. She wonders...
Forgive me...
Dainty looking hand comes back and smacks the woman across the side of her face. Sasha stares at her vampire. Enyo hits her two more times. Enyo may look dainty and fragile, but when she hits something... or someone in this case... there’s much more force behind it than a mere mortal of her size and frame can give out...
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 06:51 AM (GMT)
"Christ on a crutch!" Viv curses, her face already bruising from the blows. "Not the head." sh says weakly. Her eyes barely flutter opened. The dog is barking.
"What the hell?" she mutters as she realizes there is a large dog on her. She can still hardly move. Her eyes finally come into focus so she can see her rescuer. The other pacifist vampire?
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 06:57 AM (GMT)
Enyo automatically pulls her hand back towards her lap. “Sasha hush,” she orders the barking dog. Sasha automatically stops barking and returns her head to the woman’s lap.
The vampire continues watching the mage. “You okay?” she asks. Her voice is lined with concern.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 07:01 AM (GMT)
"Not at all. What are you doing here?" Viv asks. She is a bit dubious about this. She really isn't sure how to regard the vampire. Friend or foe? Their last meeting certainly hadn't been all love, holding hands, and singing Kumbiyah.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 07:06 AM (GMT)
The vampire shakes her head slightly. “I’m not entirely sure,” she admits. “I’d certainly rather be at home where it’s warm rather than out in the rain. For some reason though, I felt the need to go for a walk.” She glances down at her dog and then back up at Vivienne. “Now I’m glad I did. Finding you in that freezer...”
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 07:10 AM (GMT)
"At least it wasn't plugged in. He did it to keep me out of the way for a while. I doubt he counted on me being found soon." Viv says tiredly. "You have no clue how to drive do you?" she asks.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 07:13 AM (GMT)
“He?” she asks and tilts her head slightly. “Who the hell would be sick enough to stuff someone in a freezer on the side of the road when it’s pouring out?” Oh goodness. Does she sound upset about that?
She shakes her head slightly. “No. Never learned. Never had reason to...” Being 'kept' like she had been, there was no need.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 07:20 AM (GMT)
"My father. Hit me a few more times someplace besides the head so I can drive." she says. I do wonder at the look on Enyo's face at Viv's answer about who put her in the freezer.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 07:25 AM (GMT)
What’s that? A flash of deeper anger in the vampires eyes. “Are you shittin’ me?” she says with a bit more venom than she meant to. “That’s fucked up...” she hisses. She’s turned her head and is looking out the window at the rain. She’s pissed. Her fangs are entirely down.
Sasha’s still got her head, and the majority of her front half, across Viv’s lap. “Is it hard?” she finally asks without turning her head. “Driving I mean...”
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 07:46 AM (GMT)
"Not really, at least I don't think it is." Viv commetnts. One side of her face is mottled purple with bruises from where Enyo's blows landed. She sneezes a few times from the cold.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 07:50 AM (GMT)
“Alright, you’re going to have to tell me what to do then,” she says and finally turns to look at the mage woman. Her gaze instantly goes to the bruises on the side of the woman’s face. “Fuck...” she mutters. Not too often that Enyo swears folks. “I’m sorry, Vivienne. For hitting you so hard I mean...” Has the woman noticed yet that the vampire actually knows her name?
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 07:55 AM (GMT)
It isn't unusual for people to know her name. Her brother had flooded the city with fliers at one poing. Not to mention it's in the phonebook in her add for the repair business and locksmith service.
"Unavoidable. It will heal." the mage says. "It's raining, I really don't think a crash coarse in driving is a good idea right now."
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 08:00 AM (GMT)
She can’t seem to get the frown from her own face. She’d not meant to cause the woman to end up with bruises. “Any suggestions then? I can’t very well sit here until sunrise but I’m not going to just leave you sitting here by yourself either.” That was said in quite a matter of fact tone of voice. She’s still quite upset. That isn’t going to go away any time soon. Her fangs are still very much down and poke at her bottom lip every time she moves her mouth.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 08:02 AM (GMT)
"I told you hit me a couple more times, I ought to be able to drive then, though at slow speeds. My apartment isn't far. You can leave me there." Viv tells her.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 08:14 AM (GMT)
Enyo had missed the part of Viv telling her to hit her a few more times because she’d gotten too pissed to hear who had done this to Viv. She doesn’t really want to hit the woman again but doesn’t have much choice really. It’s either hit the woman so she can drive to her apartment, leave her there in the truck alone where any freak could come along and fuck with her, or sit there till sun up and watch the vampire catch fire right then and there. Gee. Which option is a vampire to go with...
She brings her hand back a bit and proceeds to hit the woman a few more times...
((I’m going to let you say where the blows hit...))
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 08:23 AM (GMT)
Torso and shoulders, are not as abd, oh it still hurts , but I don't think Viv is at risk for concusion. She moves around a good bit more, she still looks blue and unnatural though. The dog is reluctant to let her up. Of coarse Sasha tires to protect Viv, there is someting about Viv that smells a lot like Cheddar to Sasha's senses.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 08:29 AM (GMT)
Of course Viv would smell a lot like Cheddar to the dog. Viv /is/ made up partly of Cheddar’s son after all. Enyo knows this. He told her. /That/ is why she got so pissed when Viv told her what had happened and who did it.
The passive vampire couldn’t help but feel bad every time she felt her hand hit the woman. I’m sure we can all probably guess why at this point. “Sasha, off,” the vampire tells the dog and Sasha reluctantly moves. Enyo carefully climbs over Viv so that they can switch places. Sasha is pretty insistent about sitting between the two. That’s fine. Enyo lets her.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 08:37 AM (GMT)
Don't feel bad Enyo, Viv can move around enough to hurtherself now. She punches herself in the thigh and then backs the truck up in preparation to pull out on the road.
It isn't a large truck, it a compact one that sits a bit lower to the ground. Likely why enyo had no trouble with her and Sasha climbing into it.
Viv pulls in after driving a short distance behind a drycleaners. I'm sure Enyo is confused. Viv does live here, but she isn't exactly sure if she wants the vampire to know that. Bad enough Dan and her brother know. It isn't Bad that Uriel knows, but a t this hour he's at work. So the motorcycle isn't here.
They appear to be parked in a vacant parking lot behind the dry cleaners.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 08:43 AM (GMT)
Of course the vampire feels bad. That can’t be helped. She’ll get over it at some point though. The drive is quiet. Usually the vampire is quite comfortable with silence. However, this silence feels different. Weird in a way. Not really sure why though.
Enyo is indeed a bit confused when they pull into an empty parking lot behind the dry cleaners. She’s not sure if she should say anything or not though. Finally, she does. “I thought you were going to your house?” Confusion in her voice.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 08:48 AM (GMT)
"I mostly am. No sure I want you to know where I live yet, I'm not too trusting. Why are you helping me?" She says.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 08:51 AM (GMT)
“Understandable,” she says and nods her head. Damn. How to answer the question though. She’s got a couple of reasons why she’s helping the woman. First because she had stuck up for the vampire in a sense that night when Morose had shown up and was so terribly angry. Second is because of what Cheddar had told her. She’s not so sure she should be the one to tell Vivienne about that though. It’s not her place to say so. “Because I have no reason not to,” she finally answers.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 08:53 AM (GMT)
Viv lifts an eyebrow skeptically. "You hardly introduced yourself to me on the nicest terms."s eh points out. Getting out of the truck. The dog barks at her. "Gotta get your two cents in as well, I see." she tells the dog.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 08:59 AM (GMT)
The vampire turns slightly crimson. Yep. She’s fed recently. Obviously. “Yes... well...” she mutters. “I’m sorry about that...” she finally stammers. She glances at Sasha as she barks. “This is Sasha. She seems to like you,” she says as the dog moves to try to shove her head in Viv’s hand. Enyo knows. Enyo knows why Sasha seems to like Viv. It's to be expected really.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 09:02 AM (GMT)
Viv pauses to pet the dog who wags her backside happily. "She acts like she knows me or something." the mage comments. She calls the dog out of the truck so she can shut and lock her door.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 09:04 AM (GMT)
Enyo gets out of the truck on the passenger side and locks the door before shutting it. “She’s quite friendly,” the vampire explains it away. “Unless someone is upsetting me...” Upsetting her or Cheddar... “Then she turns into quite the protective one.”
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 09:08 AM (GMT)
"She must just love your , friend, then." Viv says. She remembers how upset Morose had made Enyo. "I'll warn you not to tell a soul where I live, I'd be most unhappy if I had to move she says finally walking over to an unremarkable door.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 09:11 AM (GMT)
“She’s only met him once...” she says in a soft voice. She walks around the truck and over to Sasha’s side. “I’m not going to tell anyone,” she says and follows the mage with her hand on Sasha’s shoulders. Enyo had left home with Sasha without even putting a leash on the dog. That wasn’t such a strange thing though since the vampire had been working with her being off leash more and more.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 09:23 AM (GMT)
Viv unlocks the door on the right. The apartment revealed was modest. Viv kept it immaculate. The woman cleans her tools remember? There's no sign of a phone only a T.V. and a dvd player. The remotes are set on top of the T.V., leaving doubts about if they even get used. There is small kitchenette along one wall. It would allow the preparation of modest meals, but there is no oven. Only a stove top, large toaster oven, and a microwave. Nothing in the tiny apartment seems out of place.
There is a little writing table type desk, with little drawers, and with one chair. The table has receipt books stacked on it and what seems to be a fire proof strongbox. There is a recliner chair and the only other furniture is a king sized bed with a blue comforter and roughly twenty pillows.
Right now the place smells like fresh peach cobbler as the door has been opened and Viv steps in. She spends most of the little magic she has on her words as she speaks. "Just this once." she says to the vampire as she getures for her to follow. It will let Enyo in, but just as Viv says, only this once. Viv may change her mind and be more trusting later, for the moment this is a test.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 09:28 AM (GMT)
Enyo nods and follows her in. She thinks nothing of the ‘just this once’. Sasha happily trots in and goes to plop herself down on the floor in almost the middle of the room. She proceeds to roll over onto her back and make herself right at home. The vampress can’t help but chuckle softly at her dog. She goes over and sits down on the floor next to her dog and begins to rub her belly.
K-Squared - September 5, 2005 09:32 AM (GMT)
Hopefully the vampire won't be alarmed when Viv pulls an uncooked steak out of the fridge and eats it. Normally Viv cooks her food, in this instance though she isn't up to it and Uriel isn't here to dote over her as he so often does when he can tell she's not feeling well. She washes it down with a half gallon of orange juice.
oneofmanysouls - September 5, 2005 09:35 AM (GMT)
Why would the vampire be alarmed? She’s seen so much worse. She is, after all, a vampire. She’s drank cows blood to survive on for over a year until Cheddar came into her life. “Is there anything I can do?” she finally lets herself ask. She really does sound concerned. That anger is still there in her eyes though.
