Title: Heart-stopper
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
What’s this life for? Everyone’s always dying, hating, grieving, killing, raping, feeling guilty, being blamed, and shit happens. Why does it happen, nobody knows. Why don’t you ask the people who do it?
Lucifer lay on the ground, looking dazedly at the water about a foot from him. He looked tangled in his current position, not looking anything like he did when people saw him. That’s because he was barely alive, as usual, but in a different way. So many times he avoided death, and now he was staring it right in the face. They say that right before you die, your life flashes before your eyes. But to Lucifer, unlike any of his other suicide attempts, was experiencing it. No, not the flash of his life… instead it was a rather long, gruesome, painful remembrance of everything he did.
His left hand, brought on by guilt and Kaldun, had destroyed his chest (courtesy of a knife) and now wormed its way into the hole, forcing it to become bigger, and for it to bleed more. And that made him feel worse about leaving Bomani. He said he wouldn’t. Gods, he said he wouldn’t…
It was raining too hard. In fact, it was pouring, the rain dropping down and pelting Lucifer’s ghastly white flesh, and soaking his clothes. It was cold… too cold, in contrast to Lucifer’s dangerous fever.
His brown hair was on the ground in messy, not-quite tangles, and was soaked from the rain. His eyes gave a look that said ‘not alive’ to anyone who cared to miss the fact he was bleeding. His lips were bloody, because he choked up blood, and vomited it up, causing him to lie in a puddle of it. And he didn’t care, either.
The rain drowned out his tears, but he didn’t give the slightest noise. Not even to cry out in pain.
He took one last shaky breath, exhaled… whispered one last word (which was Bomani’s name) and closed his eyes, finding it all too easy to finally rest…

Something was not right.
Definitely not right.
It was something in Bomani's gut that just egged him on and told him to check Lucifer's location. He still managed to slip little chips all around Lucifer (specfically, in all his shoes) so he wouldn't have the problem with his brother, not being able to find him.
When Bomani walked up to the screen and pulled up the information, his blood ran cold. What would Lucifer being doing at the banks of the Lacroix? That doesn't make any sense. But one thing did. It was the fact that Lucifer had been blaming himself for everything recently and that fact caused Bomani to panic.
He ran and took the fastest route and transportation, already dialing 911 on the way there. Speed dial of course.
Bomani found Lucifer in a complete mess. He wouldn't admit it and he had no eye witness but only the rain that masked it, but tears ran rampant down his cheeks. The Egyptian ran to Lucifer, taking off his coat and pressing it to the gaping hole, murmuring things in Arabic with a voice loaded with emotions.
Luckly, he hadn't had much time to lose his head for the ambulance arrived and took Lucifer away from him immediately. They advised him to go home and clean up, and he did so, but he returned to the hospital immediately, impatiently bossing a nurse to give him answers, horribly frazzled by the fact that his roommate and the sole person he cared might have not made it.
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 01:50 AM (GMT)
The ride to the hospital hadn't left Lucifer in the usual position he stayed in. Instead, it left him in a state of blackness, and he couldn't see or hear anything around him. It was cold, but at the same time, peaceful. Maybe it was because he wasn't breathing?
The paramedics did their thing, trying to use their knowledge and equipment to revive him... but things weren't looking so good for Lucifer. He wouldn't breathe... except for once, where he tried to get air by taking short, strained gasps. But that was only for about a minute or so, and they feared they would lose him.
They arrived at the hospital, and he was rushed in...
The nurse greeted him with a frown. She was a medium-sized woman, but had seen enough people in her days to make her grouchy, and make her seem years older, with the wrinkles left on her face. It looked like her faced was permanently pressed into a frown. And it goes to show, that your parents are right when they say your face will stick that way.
"I'm sorry... but," she paused, giving him a once-over. She was very short, standing about four eleven. "it doesn't look good. I don't believe you're allowed to visit him."
Ran - May 26, 2005 01:54 AM (GMT)
He'd accept that he couldn't see Lucifer, but not the lack of information.
He leaned over that tiny little counter that seperated them and he picked the little lady up by the collar of her outfit. "Tell me," He hissed threateningly, "What are the details? Breathing? Dead? Out cold? Stable? Tell me or I swear I'll slash your arm open with a pen." And Bomani got a little creepy as he bore holes into her, wanting to know details.
Hey, he could be a pretty creepy guy, give hima break. Stressful times.
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 02:01 AM (GMT)
"That is unacceptable!" The nurse raised her voice. "I'm going to call police-- you don't have visitation rights." The nurse was stubborn, but thewn again, she was scared. Bomani looked like he was serious.
"He's not breathing. Doesn't look like he'll make it, sir."
Ran - May 26, 2005 02:06 AM (GMT)
And once she gave the details, he dropped her. "Listen here, I LIVE with him. I take rights and responsiblities for him because NO ONE else does. I don't know about his brother, but his family has NO obligations to him." Because they're either 1.) dead 2.) crazy (Jenovah) and Bomani didn't trust them.
He stood there, glaring at her. "If any new news comes, tell me." And the threat was left unspoken, but it was there. There were a lot of pens around.
And then he sat down in a plastic chair and glared at her from that distance. And tapped his fingers. And snapped at people about him.
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 11:05 AM (GMT)
It must have had something to do with the fact that there were a lot of pends around, but nurse ignored Bomani's constant tapping now and calmly nodded. "Yes, sir. I'll see what I can do."
And then Bomani had to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. Dozens of people walked in and out over the course of the next few hours, and the nurse had given Bomani the news, so far, that Lucifer was breathing, but for some reason, it didn't look like he cold hold out for much longer. He was really hanging onto life by a thread, and only gods know why... She also informed him of the fact that he'd been put into the Intensive Care section of the hospital. There wasn't really much else they could do for him at this point. Possibly a blood transfusion...
"I don't usally do this... but... You may see him now, sir... don't expect him to be lively, however... poor kid's barely alive as it is." And somehow, she doubted that company might liven Lucifer up, but that was just an assumption. She had found it odd that he was in the condition he was in, and Bomani said he took care of him, after all. So why leave a kid in the cold rain with a mighty fever?
The hospital was deserted by now, since it was somewhere into the night night or very early morning. It was hard to tell, really... and by this point, it might've been safe to assume that only emergency cases were dealt with now, like Lucifer's. Either that, or the hospital was deserted for some other reasons. But hey, nobody said the night life was boring, right? Awfully depressing, though, if you should choose to ask Lucifer about it. Especially in hospitals.
The nurse stepped away from her desk and into the hallway, her shoes echoing on the tiled floor. "Just follow me," she said, quietly. My, threats can do wonders for the mood, or the respect level of a certain person. Or in cases like this, both. It's safe to assume the nurse really didn't feel like taking care of a sliced arm and ink poisoning tonight.
She led Bomani to the Intensive Care part of the hospital, and stood near the doorway of the room Lucifer was currently residing in. She resisted the urge to offer him the information about funerals, smartly, because she somehow knew that that would earn her another threat from Bomani or something. And one threat was enough to last her for a while, thankyouverymuch.
"I'll leave you two alone," she murmured tiredly, and briskly strode off, rubbing either side of her temples and partially messing up graying hairs with her fingertips to stave off the beginnings of a headache.
((Sorry I couldn't reply sooner!! My internet wouldn't work.))
Ran - May 26, 2005 08:16 PM (GMT)
XD it's okay, Arc~!))
The waiting always is the worst. Bomani had trouble coping, but now he saw a little light. They said that he was hanging on only but a thread, but that thread is there and it's better than none. He was relieved to be told that he could see Lucifer. Alive at least. He wouldn't want to go in and have to see a dead body. That might be the last straw that broke the camel's back. Well, not the camel for the camel would have been dead, but the rider? Oh well.
He stepped in quietly as he could and edged up to Lucifer, looking down on him. He looked bad, worse than the norm. He didn't like this sight, but he'd be strong and stick it out. He reached out and threaded his fingers through Lucifer's after he had scooted a chair by the bed. When he looked down, he realized that his fingers looked even more darker than usual. Lucifer was really pale.
He looked back up at his face and smiled briefly, a mental thought crossing 'get well'.
(eeee, mine's a midget to your's!)
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 08:57 PM (GMT)
Upon Bomani's arrival, Lucifer managed to lift his eyelids half of the way, so that he offered a half-lidded glance. His eyelids were dangerously close to closing again, however. It was a challenge just to keep his eyes open. But he would do it, for now, for Bomani.
There was a slight tingling in his fingers, and Lucifer tried not to make his hand twitch. And, remember how Bomani's hand was before? Cold, clammy, and too pale? That was just how Lucifer's hand was now.
He looked and felt like hell. He had a fever, and the nurse still had to check for other things, but he felt colld, and felt like shaking. His body ached and felt heavy. He felt dizzy even while laying down, there were practically over a dozen things attached to him, he could hardly breathe and was clasutrophobic, and the worst part was... he was alive, and in a hospital. Two things he didn't want.
It was hard to make out the blurry form of Bomani at this point, so he shut his eyes. He was hooked up to some oxygen type deal.
"...Bo..." was all he managed to say.
Ran - May 26, 2005 09:20 PM (GMT)
Bomani gently laid his hand on his upper arm, gently shushing him. "You don't have to talk. I'm sorry if I pile on another problem but," He looked at Lucifer's face, confidently, "I might not have another chance to tell you. I love you." And this time, it was in English. Not in arabic, but in the language that isnt' their native tongues, but one that they both can understand.
"I'm sorry if it makes you uncomfortable, forget it if it does. Just get better." And then he was off to staring at the way in a very Bomani-esque way.
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 09:33 PM (GMT)
Lucifer didn't talk after that, but he felt a sinking sensation in his stomach, which was like his heart just sunk into it. He felt so very, very guilty now... Bomani loved him, but he went and tried to kill himself.
Despite all the pain it caused, Lucifer tried speaking again. He would speak for Bomani... and though his eyes were closed, tears wet his eyelashes.
"Love... you.." It was a challenge just to say that much, but he continued anyway.. "too.."
Bomani really was thinking he would die? That made him feel so much worse.
Ran - May 26, 2005 09:40 PM (GMT)
Bomani didn't want to think that way, but yes, he did. He was afraid that this might be the last attempt Lucifer will ever make. He brought up his pale, clammy hand and placed a soft kiss on it. He felt better hearing that from Lucifer, but it wouldn't react on it to be the way loved Lucifer til he was definitely sure. "Now get better. If you're tired, you should sleep. You have a battle to fight."
Though, Bomani had some lighter words, "And I'll be helping you from the side lines, Camel."
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 09:52 PM (GMT)
Lucifer's hand moved slightly when Bomani placed a kiss on it. He opened his eyes, the familiar pair of green eyes that Bomani knew so well by now, and there was a faint trace of a smile on his thin lips, but it soon faded as if it were never there. Then Lucifer closed his eyes again. He would've liked Bomani to know that he'd be hanging on for him, but he simply didn't have the energy.
He shortly slipped off into slumber, leaving Bomani to wait some more. But at least he knew Lucifer was alive.
Ran - May 26, 2005 10:18 PM (GMT)
And that's all Bomani needed to know right now. He sat in that chair, watching over Lucifer, even as nurses and doctors came to fuss about him. Heck, they tried to even through the Egyptian out, but they found that to be impossible. He could only be budged if they needed room to work with Lucifer so that could explain why Bomani had an arm folded on the corner of the bed, his head on it and eyes still watching Lucifer.
"God speed to recovery."
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 10:35 PM (GMT)
And indeed, it was God speed to recovery. It was simply a miracle that Lucifer even lived to recover, but then again, there had been a lot of miracles in Lucifer's life. It simply wasn't expected, though. Not this time.
But here he was, asleep in a hospital bed, although not for long. He'd been put to sleep by some sort of gas or something other so they could operate and do what doctors do best.
Lucifer was still weak, but he stirred from his artificial sleep, looking desperately around for someone he knew.
Ran - May 26, 2005 10:40 PM (GMT)
Bomani was sitting in a chair, flipping through a magazine at the time. From the last time Lucifer was up, it looked as if he had just showered and changed. Soon, he noticed Lucifer stirring and he set the magazine down, "Nice of you to wake up. I thought you'd sleep your life away." He was in obvious good spirits, probably reflecting that he had received positive news about Lucifer.
"How does the Camel feel?"
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 11:36 PM (GMT)
It was very good that Bomani was in good spirits, because Lucifer felt like a train had run over him. Not like he'd experienced it before, but just to be metaphorical. Plus, Bomani's good spirits helped Lucifer's seemingly shattered ones. He tried to smile, but it didn't work.
"The Camel feels awful. Especially because he broke a promise."
Ran - May 26, 2005 11:49 PM (GMT)
"I don't remember any promises you broke." Bomani though, he had to share Ran's memory, and sometimes Ran's memory isn't the greatest. He vaguely remembers something, but anyways, he just smiled a little, coming up to stand beside the bed. "Don't worry about it. Good thing is that you're alive and getting better." Or he'd be sad. But he's not. Lucifer's alive and sort of well.
"The camel should feel better. Hopefully soon."
Arcane Blood - May 26, 2005 11:56 PM (GMT)
If Bomani shared Ran's memory, he must be really forgetful.
Lucifer inhaled deeply, and looked about the room, his gaze focusing on Bomani. The promise he meant was the one where he said he wouldn't leave. He left, and he broke his promise. He'd almost died... he'd come closer to dying than any time he had before.
Lucifer wrapped his fingers around the sheets, since Bomani's hand wasn't there, and he blinked slowly.
"I will... but I still feel bad." Not just bad. Horrible, really. Could Bomani ever trust him, really? Lucifer has this weird thing in his head about people. And he was vaguely wondering whether or not he'd meant what he said earlier. He only remembers it very, very faintly. But it's in his memory. It's there.
Ran - May 27, 2005 12:33 AM (GMT)
he's not forgetful! We have the memory of an elephant!
But anyways, Bomani would and has already forgiven him for what he had done. There was no black marks against Lucifer. They do say that love tends to over look some faults anyways. Or at least, in times where they didn't need to be pointed out.
So, he rubbed his hand, looking at Lucifer, "Any insecurity you have," Which Bomani knows there's enough to fill this hospital, "are invalid."
Arcane Blood - May 27, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
"As long as you're here, Bo, nothing else matters." But he would still feel bad. Words of reassurance was all those were. He was still all too glad that Bomani was here. "I'm sorry I left you... I didn't really think that would happen.. but I'm glad you found me." Lucifer wouldn't question how he found him, he was just glad he did.
And, another fact, now that he was thinking coherently, "I love you, Bo."
Ran - May 27, 2005 02:31 AM (GMT)
"It's okay.." He smiled, leaning forward, just lightly applying the pressure of his lips against Lucifer's forehead, "I'm just happy that you're alright. Nothing matters more to me right now." He felt like such a sap, but right now, Bomani justified that this was a good time as ever to be all mushy.
(so sorry! I didn't see that you had posted!)
Arcane Blood - May 27, 2005 06:53 PM (GMT)
"You can go home, if you want... sorry to keep you here worried. You shouldn't have had to..." He said weakly, but also managedto smile a tiny little melancholy smile that said it was all right. "I won't hold it against you... I've done enough damage as it is."
(S'ok. Sorry my post was so short.)
Ran - May 29, 2005 01:16 PM (GMT)
"I am staying here." It's not a wishy-washy 'I want to stay here'. No, it's a firm tone Bomani took like there was so other option and it was his absolute want. "I'm going to make sure you're okay and besides, Hospitals are not friendly." He did remember Lucifer's dislike for hospitals and he saw it as a way the German would take solitude as personal punishment.
(Noo! it's fineee!)
Arcane Blood - May 29, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
Lucifer had wanted Bomani to stay in the first place, but he hadn't wanted to force him to. It was his choice, after all, and making Bomani stay would make Lucifer view himself as... selfish.
"Thanks..." He said, quietly, but he really was grateful.
Ran - May 30, 2005 01:41 AM (GMT)
Bomani smiled, "You're welcome. I can't abandon my camel in the middle of a desert." That's be just mean and even I would have to agree that Bomani would deserve being shot. Poor Luc! Bomani should shoot himself for being a meany-head!
Arcane Blood - May 30, 2005 05:12 PM (GMT)
"You could, actually.." he said weakly, and yawned tiredly, after a cough. From the sound of it, he'd been coughing a lot, previously. He let his fingers relax and lay flat on the sheets, and gave Bomani a drowsy sort of smile, accompanied by the drowsy look in his half-lidded gaze.
"But I wouldn't want you to.." He added, after a moment or three in thought.
Ran - May 31, 2005 08:25 PM (GMT)
"Good." He brushed his fingers over Lucifer's briefly, "You look tired. Go to sleep and rest up. I won't leave." Bomani openly studied Lucifer's face. He noticed it had gotten a little thinner and even paler. He wished Lucifer could return to the camel he had first met. That fiesty, oddly pink-haired punk that he had shot.
Arcane Blood - June 2, 2005 01:21 AM (GMT)
"Bo, please don't be mad... I didn't mean to... I mean... please don't leave me..?" He asked, which meant he was still insecure, and he was still giving him that choice of leaving, though in his heart of hearts, he didn't want him to.
There was a pleading look in those green eyes, and then guilt... before they closed, and Lucifer clenched the sheet in his fingers before he went back to sleep again.
Ran - June 3, 2005 10:57 AM (GMT)
"I'm not mad at you, Camel. I already said I wouldn't leave." Bomani edged closer to th ebed, resting his hand on Lucifer's clenched fist, gently pressing a kissing to his forehead. "Just sleep. Next time you open your eyes, I will still be here." For the insecurity that Lucifer has, Bomani wouldn't do anything to make it worse. His place was right here. Protecting Lucifer from the nurses.
Arcane Blood - June 4, 2005 06:16 PM (GMT)
The next time Lucifer awoke, he was still feeling miserable, and considerably down. But he was worried. Worried that Bomani had left him... sometimes, he didn't realize not trusting his words could hurt Bomani.
His eyes fluttered open again, and he flinched. He panicked.
What was he doing here...? Who was he? What in the hell was going on here?
"Bo..?" There was desperation, panic, and only a slight hint of hysteria in his raspy voice.
Ran - June 5, 2005 01:37 AM (GMT)
There was that tell-tale 'plop' of magazines being dropped on the table as he took large steps towards Lucifer, lightly touching him on the hand, "I'm right here. I didn't leave."
Words and mistrust may hurt, but that was far from Bomani's mind in this current time frame.
Arcane Blood - June 5, 2005 02:10 PM (GMT)
"Bo... I want to go home..." he said softly, as if he'd feel ashamed or guilty (or both) for whining. "I don't wanna be here."
"I'm... glad you stayed."
Try not to be annoyed too much with the boy's repition of things, Bo. He can't really... help it, you see.
Ran - June 6, 2005 02:31 AM (GMT)
He leaned forward, kissing Lucifer's forehead. "I'll try to get you out today. Just as long as they know you're okay." He stood straight again, watching Lucifer before he picked up his hand, his fingers threaded through pale ones.
"I wouldn't have left for anything."
Arcane Blood - June 6, 2005 03:17 PM (GMT)
"Could you... please?" He asked, looking up at Bomani in that sort of hopeful way. It sort of made him look better than the actual state he was in right now.
"I... didn't want you to leave. I don't want to be here."
Ran - June 6, 2005 09:00 PM (GMT)
Bomani smiled, still holding his hand, "Hold on a minute then, Ghayn." Ghayn, Ran usefully looked up finally, is camel in Arabic.
He leaned over, pressing the call a nurse button. Call the nurse to call the doctor so he wouldn't have to leave the room. When she did, he had her fetch the doctor where he stepped a little ways away from Lucifer, now at the foot of the hospital bad as he talked to a man with the same skin color. Obviously, he spoke arabic as they bickered back and forth. Bomani obviously was the more violent one.
Anyways, soon enough it came to an end and he dismissed the doctor by the flap of a hand and a deaf ear, turning a gentle smile to Lucifer. "He said he'd be able to release you by eleven this morning."
Arcane Blood - June 7, 2005 12:21 AM (GMT)
Lucifer winced when the two Arabic men started bickering, as it was really hurting his sensitive ears, but simply closed his eyes, said nothing, and endured it. They couldn't help it, right? They didn't know he was pained by their loud arguings, did they? If they did, they din't care, obviously.
He laid his fingers flat out on the sheets, trying not to think about this other confusing language spoken in angry tones of voice. And then, after what seemed like forever, it just stopped.
"...eleven?" Lucifer asked, still unknowingly wincing. Bomani may have forgotten Lucifer didn't know what time it'd been for the past... two days, it seemed. All he knew was dark and light, basically.
Ran - June 7, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
"It's nine right now, Luc." He reached out, brushing his bangs out of his face. "Only two hours. They'll run through tests to be on the safe side. They're also gathering things that we might need to take home with us." Like painkillers and the such.
"Only two hours and you're free."
Arcane Blood - June 7, 2005 01:46 PM (GMT)
Two hours sounded reasonable, except for the fact that Lucifer was feeling childish and didn't want to wait. He also didn't want Bomani to have to wait, either. But instead of voicing his opinion, he gave a very slight nod of his head. "Mm.." that was indication that he acknowledged what Bomani said.
He opened his eyes and looked up at Bomani, murmuring, "Sorry.. to make you wait."
Ran - June 7, 2005 02:52 PM (GMT)
Bomani shook his head, sitting on the egde of the bed (rhyme!), "It's alright. I'd wait for as long as it would take, Camel." He wasn't looking at Lucifer's face, but rather his hand. He had it laid out on his own and he was comparing to how small and pale Lucifer's was to his own. It was actually pretty fascinating. "Your hands are so different from mine." Bomani remarked as he gently rotated his hand, looking it over.
