Title: Shopping.
Description: It's what you do in a mall. -Danie-

SammieK - April 15, 2005 11:50 PM (GMT)
She had more bags than anyone really had any need to have. (She also had more money than she really needed to have, either, but then again, that was why she had so many bags in the first place. She was spending all that extra money that she didn't need to have, and she was doing a bangup job of it, too.)

Judging by her clothing, this was something that she did often. A flaring skirt that showed off her (very nice) legs, a sleeveless shirt that displayed her (equally nice) tan (and a bit of her assets as well), a jacket (in case of chill on the way out), and a pair of flipflops that matched her shirt.

She simply adored shopping for summer (which wasn't quite here yet, but it was always better to be prepared). Actually, Jetta adored shopping in any time of year, for anything, for any reason. She just adored shopping.

Malls were wonderful places to pick up guys.

Danie - April 16, 2005 12:22 AM (GMT)
Malls were wonderful places, period. They had people in them, lots of people. That was just the way Darcy liked it - even if he didn't really know any of them, at least they were around. He was currently occupying a position in one of the many clothing stores in the mall, holding a package of socks in each hand.
(What? Everyone needs socks...)
The grey ones, or the white ones?
Grey... white.
Grey... white.

White.

He put the grey socks back on the shelf, and headed to the counter. Darcy wasn't exactly a fashion model, but he looked blendably trendy. New-looking tan jeans, brown t-shirt that was just a little tight, sandals... he looked kind of relaxed, like he'd just woken up a few minutes ago and decided he wanted to go to the mall.
That was exactly what he'd done, actually. His brown hair was still sleep-dishevelled, and was tousled into messy tufts that hung in front of his eyes.

While he waited in line, he looked around. His amber eyes touched on Jetta, - and lit up. Wow, she was hot.
Then he looked away. She must be here with someone. He'd known girls like her in high school... her group of friends must have been temporarily delayed by something, and would be swarming around her at any minute.
But he couldn't resist looking at her again. She was pretty.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
Jetta is the kind of girl who is used to being looked at. That doesn't mean she doesn't notice when someone does it, though; she also looks for the people who do. They're generally awestruck guys or jealous girls.

This one appears to be an awestruck guy. A rather cute awestruck guy, come to think of it. Mm, nice body, nice hair--Jetta has a thing for hair, and it's not (entirely) because she knows how playing with a guy's hair affects him.

Thus, she grants him a broad smile and a wink.

Hm. He doesn't seem to have much in hand...

Her course alters a little bit, aiming for him instead of going right past him.

Danie - April 16, 2005 12:35 AM (GMT)
Charmingly confused, Darcy looked to his right and left, then behind him. That wink hadn't been for him, had it? ... Well, no one else was reacting, so it seemed it had been. He smiled back at her, giving a quick nod of greeting. Wait a moment, she was comng his in direction -! Wow. Just... wow. This must be his lucky day, or something.

He waved with his free hand, grinning. " 'Allo," he said brightly, once she was close enough to talk to.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 12:45 AM (GMT)
"Hey there, cutie." Brilliant white smile. Mm, he's even more delicious close up.

"Wanna do me a favor?"

Say yes, Darcy, and make the pretty girl with all the packages happy. She might even keep you for a while, if you're a good puppy.

Danie - April 16, 2005 12:52 AM (GMT)
Darcy nodded, still grinning uncontrollably.
"Certainement. Yes, of course," he agreed, then tilted his head to one side and inquired, "What is it?"
One is generally supposed to ask 'what is it' before one agrees to do a favor for someone. For Darcy, this rule is temporarily suspended. It's not every day that magazine-picture girls walk up to him. Exceptional circumstance call for exceptions. It's as simple as that.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 12:55 AM (GMT)
"Carry these for me?" She makes it into a winsome little request, nothing big... But of course, if he refuses, she won't be much interested in him anymore. In her mind, a boy who won't do as he's told isn't much of a boy at all. (Or at least, not much of a boy for her collection.)

"My car's out front."

Danie - April 16, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
"Ah. Okay," he nodded. "I will be just a moment."
He went to put the socks back, not wanting to accidentally walk out of the store without paying for them. He could come back for them later. He wasn't about to make her wait for him - provided she even would wait - while he bought his socks. Smiling Pretty Girl outranked Socks any day.
It only took him a moment. Upon his return, he offered to take Jetta's bags for her. "Voila. Okay, ready now."

SammieK - April 16, 2005 01:10 AM (GMT)
There are a lot of bags, and she piles every single one of them into his arms--except for her purse, of course. Cute or not, she wasn't going to hand that off to a random stranger in the mall--smiling brightly all the while. Good boy; you've made Jetta rather happy.

"Thanks, hon." Afterthought. "I'm Jetta."

And she sets off towards the entrance by which she parked her car. (Out front, in a mall, can mean any number of things, and in this case, it's almost across the mall from where they are.)

Danie - April 16, 2005 01:19 AM (GMT)
"I'm Darcy," he replied, his voice muffled a by by a plastic bag sticking close to his face. "It is nice to meet you. I see you 'ave been busy today, eh?"

He was referring to the number of shopping bags, which must have taken forever to collect. Darcy himself wasn't a big shopper - but he balanced Jetta's purchases like a pro, not tripping, running into anyone, or even coming close to dropping anything. Not even once.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 01:24 AM (GMT)
Cute and useful. Wonderful boy.

"A pleasure to meet you too, Darcy." She gave his name the same flavor she gave every guy's name. A lingering over it, tasting it, testing it, and finding it sweet. A flattering sort of thing.

A chuckle; she knows what he's talking about. And yes, it did take a while; most of the day, in fact.

Pause. She's starving. Hm.

Danie - April 16, 2005 01:30 AM (GMT)
He smiled a little more at her reply, but didn't find anything else to say, until...

"Certainly your friends must be wondering where you 'ave got to?" he asked, with a slight frown. He assumed she was here with friends - how could she not be? Girls of this sort always roamed in giggling packs, wherever they went. He couldn't remember ever seeing one on her own. If she was by herself - well, then Darcy must have just discovered a new species of girl.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 01:34 AM (GMT)
A new species? Perhaps. We'll call it the black widow.

"Oh, they won't care, they're always around somewhere," she answered airily, waving one hand vaguely at the mall around them. (She actually had come alone today; she preferred to do her hunting solo. Also, her friends are the kind who hang out with her because they're afraid of what she'll say behind their backs if they don't...) "I'm through for the day." She'd spent plenty of money for one day.

"Where are yours?"

Danie - April 16, 2005 01:43 AM (GMT)
Darcy shrugged, looking a little uncomfortable. "I am,... not exactly certain."

He hadn't seen Taryn in a little while... not that he couldn't have looked her up, but she was probably busy with classes or something. He'd have to look her up later - couldn't have her forgetting about him. Lucifer,.. well, he was more of an acquaintance. Hadn't seen him for a while, either. And as for Keye - Darcy had gone to visit him at his apartment, while in wolf form, but Keye hadn't been there - all the scents from him were old. He'd gone and moved without telling him.

"They are all... doing their own things, elsewhere," he shrugged.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
Aw, the poor dear sounded lonely. (Wonder how Darcy would react if he knew that Jetta had, only recently, taken Keye out on a date and attempted to seduce him... Which had gone fairly well until Keye decided that he didn't want to have sex, due to Logan.)

"Ran off and left you, huh?" she conjectured, pseudo-sympathetically. Then, as if struck by an idea... "How 'bout we make this a lunch date? Cheer you up."

And, my, my, did she sound like she was just a sweet girl who wanted to cheer up a new acquaintance.

Danie - April 16, 2005 02:01 AM (GMT)
"Yeah?" he brightened. Nothing like making new friends to help to get the old ones off his mind. To him, Jetta was a nice, sweet girl and he couldn't tell she was pretending. This was possibly because he was desperate for company... it could also be because he was wouldn't ever want to believe that she was fake.

"I tink that would be great, as long as you want to. Or as long as I am not keeping you from anysing. It would be fun," Darcy nodded.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 02:08 AM (GMT)
"Nah, you wouldn't be keeping me from anything; I don't have anything to do this afternoon anyway." Which was probably technically a lie, since she did have a monster paper due next week, but... Guys were much, much more interesting. (She should be a behavioural psychologist and study rats; they don't have hearts to break.)

"Let's dump this stuff in my car first, and then we'll go somewhere."

Danie - April 16, 2005 02:13 AM (GMT)
"Okay, cherie," he said brightly, an extra spring being added to his step. He padded along after her - padded is the only word for the way he was walking. His sandals were nearly silent on the mall's floor, and he went along swiftly and smoothly, like he could break into a run at any moment but didn't care to.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 02:20 AM (GMT)
Just like a puppy following his mistress on a walk. And, you know, Jetta will probably end up being his mistress in more ways than one. She's like that. (Read: she's slutty like that.)

And through the mall, Jetta, now that she wasn't burdened by more clothes than she really needed to add to her wardrobe, weaving effortlessly through the (slightly small) crowds.

Her car's not far now.

Danie - April 16, 2005 02:27 AM (GMT)
Darcy had to be a little more careful, seeing how his vision was obstructed by all the stuff he was carrying. He still didn't walk into anyone, but he came close a few times and had to pause and say, "Excuse me," and "Sorry, didn't see you," to a few bewildered people.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 02:32 AM (GMT)
And out to the parking lot, blah, blah, blah, and we'll skip all the boring bits of opening the car and stowing the things in the trunk (and the back seat; she doesn't have a terribly large trunk) and jump right to the end of that.

"So, where do you want to go, honey?"

Funny how she calls everyone male by those pet names, isn't it.

Danie - April 16, 2005 03:18 PM (GMT)
"I will go wherever you want to go," Darcy replied, smirking and shrugging a shoulder. He really was the easy-to-please type. Particularly when he was with someone that he was trying to please, like, say, Jetta - then, he'd do pretty much anything he was told, within reason.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 03:25 PM (GMT)
"I asked you, hon. Pick somewhere."

She likes to judge guys based on their tastes in places--though their taste in girls tends to be a point or three in their favor. At least to begin with, and as long as they fawn over her--or by their taste in clothes...

Darcy's passed the clothes test; we'll see if he passes the other one.

Danie - April 16, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
"Ahh,... okay," Darcy frowned thoughtfully. Well, the food court was nearby... "There are some okay places in the food court,... A lot of choices, anyway. I do not know what you would like, so this way, I am not dragging you to somewhere you will not find , euh.. pleasant, I think is the word?"
He smiled hopefully.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 05:30 PM (GMT)
"Language problems, honey?" Oou, gotta love the foreign accent. And even if the food court wasn't too great of a choice, foreign accent definitely made up for some of the points he lost by not picking somewhere classy and expensive.

"Food court sounds great." Well, not really, but oh well.

Danie - April 16, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
He nodded, with a self-mocking grin. "Ouais. Sometimes, I just can not remember how to say things. Or I do not even know the word to begin with," he laughed. Darcy hesitated a moment as they headed back into the mall, his smile fading... "But you can understand me, yes?"

SammieK - April 16, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)
"Loud and clear," she confirmed. "So, where are you from?"

She was walking right beside him, close enough that if either of them decided touching would be fun, touching would be very easy and natural. That, of course, was the point, after all.

Jetta didn't usually believe in taking things slow.

Danie - April 16, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
"Quebec, originally. My family moved 'ere when I was small, but we 'ave always talked French at home, and I do not get to practice English as much as I would like," Darcy replied, trying to work in an excuse/explanation for the way he talked,"...It is nice here. But not as busy, I think."

Hey, if she wanted to, say, hold hands or something... Darcy wouldn't object. In his book, that was just being friendly. He respected other people's space (when human) but he'd take any opportunity he was given.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 06:02 PM (GMT)
"Why, you like busy?"

Isn't it usually supposed to be the guy's job to initiate contact? Ah, well, Jetta's never been one to hold back... Her hand slipped into his. She didn't comment on it, didn't say anything about it, but she was definitely holding his hand.

And, mm, French accent.

Danie - April 16, 2005 06:11 PM (GMT)
"Mm? Yes," he nodded. He was silent for a moment. She was holding his hand. That was very, very nice of her. He started talking again right away, to cover the fact that he was holding her hand a bit tighter. "Yes, I like it when more people are around, because there is more of a chance to talk with them. To get to know them. I like people - I am a people person, I guess."

SammieK - April 16, 2005 06:16 PM (GMT)
"Well, so am I." Well, she likes crowds, anyway, especially ones in clubs with lots of cute guys and lots of alcohol. (Thus why she goes to parties and to clubs, of course.) Also she'll be just about anything for the guys she wants... As long as they don't want tractable.

And at the food court now. Lots to choose from.

"Where d'you want to eat, honey?"

Danie - April 16, 2005 06:22 PM (GMT)
Darcy looked around. It really wasn't a question of where he wanted to eat. He wished she'd choose- that way he wouldn't pick something she'd hate. His amber eyes were caught by a Subway. That would work...
Unless she took it to mean he thought she should go on a diet. Bad.
Or maybe they could go to one of the fast-food places, like a McDonald's...
But what if she already was on a diet? Also bad.

After five minute's deliberation, he sighed, slumping his shoulders. "I do not know," he said miserably.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 06:26 PM (GMT)
Boys are cute when they're confused, you know that?

Jetta leaned in and gave him a quick peck on the cheek--not very shy, this one--and smiled.

"Then I guess I'll choose."

And she headed towards Subway.

Danie - April 16, 2005 06:30 PM (GMT)
"Okay," he said cheerily. That little kiss did wonders for his mood. He beamed, following obediently along with Jetta to Subway. Should have stuck with his first choice after all. Oh, well.
Quick, make conversation, before she gets bored. "You 'ave not said where you are from. Are you from 'ere?"

SammieK - April 16, 2005 06:34 PM (GMT)
"Nope. From Virginia, in the States." That might explain why she uses pet names the way she does; they're rather stereotypically Southern. That also explains why there's just a bit of a drawl to her voice.

Who knew?

"Who's buying?" Or are they going Dutch?

Danie - April 16, 2005 06:37 PM (GMT)
"I 'ave never been there. Must be nice, though," Darcy mused. He was going to add, 'like you' but he didn't feel like being that corny. He blinked, startled by the question. He thought she knew... of course he would be paying. It was only fair. She was keeping him company after all.
"I am," he said.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
Oh, good, good boy. Good puppy. You get a treat.

Which comes in the form of another peck on the cheek.

"In that case, I'll find a table. Just get me turkey on rye, with lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard, all right?"

Purr. She likes this one.

Danie - April 16, 2005 06:47 PM (GMT)
"D'accord," he nodded. This was turning out to be a really, really good day.

It didn't take him long to get Jetta's order, and his own (a pizza sub), and wander over to the table Jetta had chosen. He set her sub in front of her... didn't pull the spinny trick he'd done for Taryn, simply because subs weren't meant to be spun the way that trays with coffee on them were. He sat down across from her.
"I think I got it right - check to make sure it is 'as the right , what do you call them, filling things. Just in case I made a mistake."

He hadn't. But it never hurt to make absolutely certain.

SammieK - April 16, 2005 06:52 PM (GMT)
She checked, of course, and favored him with a lovely white smile. (She really does have a beautiful smile; it's a pity that they're never really more than a layer to her facade...)

"Good job, honey." She blew him a kiss across the table.

Danie - April 16, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
"Heh. Pas d' problème," he smirked, secretly cursing himself for not remembering how to say, 'no problem' in English. He knew that he knew how to say it, but the words had suddenly flown out of his head for some reason, when she smiled at him.
She was pretty.
No one could accuse Darcy of being shallow, but there was just something about pretty girls like this one...
