Title: Simple Observer
Description: Somebody with fangs is desired...
Aduratis - January 12, 2005 09:37 PM (GMT)
The door to the club creaked open about six inches and closed barely letting in any air. Through the crack a small, slim girl of 19 slipped silently through. She went over to the bar and looked cynically at the rows of alcohol before pulling out a hip flask and taking a swig.
She threw back the hood to reveal slanting bottle green eyes obscured by mahogany hair that touched the back of her neck. At the base of her throat a single black opal shimmered bouncing the light from the flashing strobes off the walls. She crossed her legs and the cuffs of her pants rose slightly revealing a howling grey wolf tattooed onto her left ankle.
Sipping out of her hip flask she scanned the club for somebody of interest, she had been searching for those of peculiar nature after finding out that people such as vampires and werewolves existed. Not finding others after several serches she decided to return to the place where she'd found her first. However the club seemed to be bare of anyone unusual and so she gave a great sigh and looked up at the ceiling and started to study the natural 'artwork' of the water stains.
Arcane Blood - January 31, 2005 10:02 PM (GMT)
Majick didn't belong in a club. It just wasn't right. The air about the young, white-haired man, simply gave off a feeling of relaxed, naive, innocence. Not the typical person you'd find in a club. His expression, mood, the way he walked, it was just all wrong. One might've questioned what he was doing in a club.
So, what was he doing in a club?
Well, it was mostly a club for the Innish, and he happened to be Innish, so... And besides, he came in here, for the same reason the woman he'd seen just enter had come in here. To find someone interesting to talk to. Or find someone interesting to talk to, first.
He had a few dollars in his pockets, which was enough for a drink, he'd hoped. The drink didn't have to be for him, anyway. He could order a drink for some random person in the club he found interesting, if he wanted.
He had been seated on a bar stool for quite some time, without making any conversation with anyone, and then he just smiled in the woman's direction.
(Bleh. Crappy post. Gomen.)
Aduratis - January 31, 2005 10:22 PM (GMT)
Tia looked back down from the water stains in time to see a smile flashed at her. This in itself was amazing to her, and would have been enough to topple her off the barstool but to add to the fact that the one doing the smiling was actually attractive, well!
She just sat there shocked momentarily before metaphorically scraping herself off the floor and walking over as was only polite. Settling herself on the stool next to Majick she looked him up and down and was knocked on her proverbial rear twice in just as many minutes. He so didn’t belong! This was not a mortal! He just couldn’t be! No normal man seemed so innocent. She had asked for a magical being and she sure had found one.
But figuring she’d better play it safe at first she opened the floor with a normal statement, at least what she deemed to be ‘normal’, "'Ello there!" She said happily. "Nice night eh? And jus' what is a strappin' young man such as yourself doin' in a club? Tryin' to pick up girls?" Her Cockney accent sounded a bit out of place in the club but she ignored that. It sounded out of place everywhere in the whole bloody US of A.
(Ah. The ultimate post of crap. And it took so long too.)
Arcane Blood - January 31, 2005 10:40 PM (GMT)
(Nah. 'Twas better than mine.)
The smile had been a silent invitation to come over here, and clearly, she had accepted such an invitation. He was still smiling, though. After a brief moment, it faded, as if he had never smiled at all, but since Tia had come over here, it didn't matter. He'd meant to snag her attention.
"Mhm. Wonderful night." He grinned, innocence. What other could be expected from an angel? His voice was soft and melodious, which was a change from the slightly icy one he'd been using. An air of icyness still lingered in his voice, however.
"Nah, not trying to pick up girls. Just figured I'd find someone interesting to talk to here. It is a club, after all, neh?" He questioned, simply. "And what about you? What're you doing in such a place as this?" Smile smile. He'd practically stolen her attention and more.
Aduratis - January 31, 2005 10:47 PM (GMT)
Well she’d better come clean and sooner was much better, in her opinion, than later. “Well, if you must know boy-o I am looking for somebody quite out of the ordinary that surpasses “interesting”.” ~And I think you are one.~ She added silently. If only there was a certain sign that the Innish used to communicate.
Leaning back against the counter she doodled the closest thing she knew to magic in the dust of the counter. Three pointed ovals took shape that linked at the center and formed a slightly curved triangle in the center. She completed the drawing with a circled that was just inside the outer-points .
(The sign if you care is the sign from Charmed.)
Arcane Blood - January 31, 2005 10:52 PM (GMT)
Majick caught her drift before she even had to draw the sign. He'd just questioned whether she meant normal interesting, or the kind of interesting he thought she meant. And as she drew the sign, he grinned again. It happened to be the latter of the two.
"Ah, I see."
(Gaaaaaaah. The shortness. ><)
Aduratis - January 31, 2005 10:59 PM (GMT)
"But now I've been rude haven't I!" She exclaimed suddenly, “I haven’t even told you my name! And you haven’t told me yours either.” She added the last sentence as a surprised after-thought.
“My name is Tia Malira,” She said, sticking her hand out. It didn’t look like a woman’s hand. There were electrical burns from her inventing and scars, small and larger, that had come from all manner of stray and wild animals. “Inventor extrodinare, small time jeweler and purveyor of…other talents.” Small time jeweler to her meant making rings and the like with what ever she could find. And it was amazing what some people accidentally through out.
Arcane Blood - January 31, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
"I suppose," he shrugged, casually.
He took the offered hand and shook it lightly, then returned his hand back to himself, and it rested on his thigh. "Pleasure to meet you, Tia. The name's Majick. My friends call me Maj, though. I don't do anything, as of now. Currently unemployed. Looking for a job, though." Well, he didn't want to seem completely pathetic, and useless.
Aduratis - January 31, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
(Och. I must depart. I'll be back in two hours or so though for 1 more hour!)
Arcane Blood - January 31, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)
(Mm'kay. I have to be leaving as well. See you when I see you.)
Aduratis - February 2, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
Tia leaned against the counter and took a sip from her hip flask as she studied Majick. “What do you specialize in?” She asked, displaying genuine interest. “Personal trainer, lawyer, crazed fan?” Snorting at her own suggestion Tia tried making a serious guess. “Or…Dancer?” He did have the build she thought but she really wasn’t one to judge.
Arcane Blood - February 2, 2005 10:42 PM (GMT)
Ugh. Alcohol. Majick had a very low tolerance for alchohol, which made him wonder why he was even in here. It wasn't all about drinking, but alchohol just bugged him. He didn't often wander into clubs, but he'd done so now, only to scout for any interesting Innish. Perhaps he'd found one.
"Nothing, really." He shrugged. "With my skills, the only thing I could probably be is a professional burger flipper." He was kidding about the burger-flipping, but not about the not having any skills.
Aduratis - February 2, 2005 10:50 PM (GMT)
She looked at him appraisingly. “Burger-flipper. Right. With your complexion I doubt you’ve ever even eaten a burger, let-alone flipped one.” She wasn’t quiet sure how to say she thought he wasn’t even normal, forget burger flipping. How about, “Gee Majick, the real reason I’m in here is to search for weirdos and I think you are one.” That probably wouldn’t go over too well.
So while she waffled between telling him and not telling him her conscious grip on her morphing powers began to slip and for an instant she had pointed cat-ears and a tail but in the blink of an eye they were gone after she quickly regained control.
Arcane Blood - February 2, 2005 11:02 PM (GMT)
"That's true. But, hey, you never know." His tone was perhaps more dull, the icyness more apparent. It wasn't a cold tone, as if he hated her or anything, it just held that sort of... angelic quality to it. Majick's kind of angelic. Not the kind of entirely sweet, do-gooder sterotype angel. He was more... bitter-sweet.
He hopped up on the barstool, and grinned as her cat ears appeared, as if that were completely normal for him.
Aduratis - February 3, 2005 03:00 AM (GMT)
Tia blushed and brushed her hair behind her now-human ears. "Well, now you know that I'm not what I seem, eh? You should never judge people by their apperances. Especially girls you meet in bars." She grinned showing a single fang, the trait of a morph. The fang was the only thing that did not change when she shifted.
"Now, if I do say so myself, I don't believe that you are quiet what you seem either," She gave him a slightly demented half-smile. "Are you now." It wasn't really a question, more a blatent statment of fact.
Arcane Blood - February 4, 2005 03:06 AM (GMT)
He would've grinned again, but he seemed to be stretching that human expression far too much lately, so he settled for a slight hint of a smirk twitching at his lips. "I never judge people on the outside. Especially not women." He said that because women tended to be more... sneaky, for lack of a better word.
"Ah, but you should know by now that nothing is quite as it seems." He made a vague, swooping hand gesture towards the whole club. He was being avoidant on purpose. It was more fun that way.
Aduratis - February 4, 2005 01:51 PM (GMT)
Tia rolled her eyes at him. "Yes, normally nothing and nobody in this place are as they seem but as it happens there is nobody exceptionally abnormal." Except you, her eyes seemed to add.
"Now Mr. I Think I'll Be Evasive, I have been looking for somebody who is not what they seem for two weeks without any success, and now I think I've found one. However he either can't, won't, or doesn't have the backbone to admit it."
Arcane Blood - February 4, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
Majick didn't quite see the reason for her rolling her eyes, but he supposed it was because he was being avoidant. "Ah, how funny the world is, eh?" He spoke without tact, changing the subject casually. "It gets boring, after awhile. Same faces, same attitudes..." He put an elbow on the bar counter, resting his chin in his palm, icy blue eyes glinting, with... something. Curiosity? Yes, curiosity, as to why Tia wanted to know if he was perhaps Initiate or not.
He put the hand that had previously made gestures, (or more formally known as his left hand) and rested it on his thigh, staring intently at Tia for a moment. It seemed as if he would do that for hours without getting bored, or even moving.
He let his facial expressions stretch into a small smile, revealing some of his teeth, which were pretty average. Not bright white, not yellow. White enough to be pleasing to the eyes, you could say.
He gave a tiny laugh at her remark, and decided to adress the matter directly. "Well, look no further, Mrs. Tia."
Aduratis - February 5, 2005 01:56 PM (GMT)
"Excellent!" She snapped up from her slumped position immediatly. "So," Tia said in a bussiness like tone. "Exactly what kind of..um..being are you? You're definitly something I wouldn't expected to find in a bar that's for sure." Laughing at her own joke she started to doodle little pictures on the bar. Horses with wings, people with horns, gryffins, and the like.
Arcane Blood - February 5, 2005 02:20 PM (GMT)
Excellent? Well, that was a surprise. Even if she'd said she was looking for someone out of the ordinary, he didn't think she'd be that enthused.
"Well, we already know that," he remarked at the comment of him being someone she didn't expect to be at a bar. But, in response, he decided to doodle as well. A person with wings.
Aduratis - February 6, 2005 01:51 PM (GMT)
Tia watched the little dust-drawing be made and her eyes grew wide. "You're an angel?" She whispered. "Does that mean there really is a heaven and hell? You could solve millions of religious disputes like this!” Tia suddenly became uncomfortable and shifted in her seat. “Do you have wings?” She asked, barely audible over the loud music of the club.
Arcane Blood - February 6, 2005 05:17 PM (GMT)
He quickly wiped away the evidence of the drawing along with the dust, and wiped the dust on the barstool on his other side. He shook his head in response to her question. Though he was an angel, he'd certainly not come from heaven.
"Yes," he answered, quietly. Quieter than she had asked because of his voice.
Aduratis - February 9, 2005 09:30 PM (GMT)
"Wow. Is there rules or something though? No showing them to anyone but another angel?" Tia sighed and stretched. "Am I making you uncomfortable with these questions? 'Cause if I am then tell me. I don't want to upset the first supernatural being I've had to talk with in weeks. Also the first inteligent person period."
Arcane Blood - February 9, 2005 09:39 PM (GMT)
"No. No rules, besides the ones I make myself." He diverted his gaze from her for a moment, and sighed inwardly. "No, you're not... Don't worry, if you were, I would've already made it a point to tell you."
Aduratis - February 9, 2005 09:51 PM (GMT)
"Got it. Well, I think I might have run out of questions for the moment. Or not. Do you know anybody else who has powers? Any kind at all? And since I've bombarded you with questions you can do that same to me now if you like."
Arcane Blood - February 9, 2005 10:03 PM (GMT)
He looked out at all the people, and sighed a barely audible sigh as he felt a skight pain in his head, faintly resembling the pain of a headache. Probably was.
"No. Nobody else." He said, simply.
"What about you? What are you, exactly?" He fidgeted in his seat.
Aduratis - February 9, 2005 10:11 PM (GMT)
Tia smiled. "I'm a morph. Think wereperson except I can change into anything or any combonation of anything but up to three animals only. And not by the light of the full moon either. Anytime I want."
She shrugged elegantly. "Nonetheless one of my favorite forms is wolf. Or cat. Especialy cat. Or some form of screwed with cat. I guess my favorite form of 'cat'" She held her ring finger and pointer up in a sign for apostophies. "Is body of a cat, ears of a bat, and tail of a lion. It looks so cool."
Arcane Blood - February 9, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
"Morph..." He let the term sink in. It was foreign to him. "Well, that's new..." He put his elbow on the bar counter and put his chin in his palm, gazing at her, blue eyes showing interest.
"Nonetheless, sounds interesting."
Aduratis - February 9, 2005 10:26 PM (GMT)
"Thanks. It's all from my mom's side." She pulled the black opal out from under her shirt. "This is the sign of initiation into the morph comminity, but as far as I know there is no community. The opal awakens our powers and the white gold it's set in amplifies them. I can mix forms this way. Without it I can't."
Arcane Blood - February 9, 2005 10:35 PM (GMT)
"Hmm," he mused, staring at her, still. "So you're saying, without that gem, you can't morph at all? Your powers are pretty much useless?" He inquired.
Aduratis - February 9, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
"No, I can morph without the opal. It's only purpose is to awaken the powers. I just wear it because I have nobody to pass it down to. I probably shouldn't have somebody to pass it down to concidering my age." She took another swig from the hip flask. "Aah. Nothing like fake alcohal."
Arcane Blood - February 9, 2005 10:44 PM (GMT)
"But you just said..." Majick thought aloud, pausing. "Never mind. Is that just so... you can mix?" By mix he obviously meant mix forms to become a hybrid. "Or is it just there to look pretty?"
He stared off in the other direction. "Can't stand the stuff. Alcohol..." He commented, off-handedly.
Aduratis - February 9, 2005 10:58 PM (GMT)
"Yes, mixing is another trait indiginious to the morph. Cat, bat, and lion is my personal favorite. Cat body, bat ears, lion tail. It's very useful. The cat body is graceful and quick, the bat ears can here anything, and having an oversized tail gives good balance. I could walk across a string if I wanted."
She grinned at his reaction to her alchohal comment. "It's not real actually. Just lime and lemon juice. Yum."
Arcane Blood - February 9, 2005 11:20 PM (GMT)
"Sounds like fun." He said, with a sheepish grin. "I bet you can't fly, though." He brushed his bangs out of his eyes, but they came back in his eyes again anyway.
He looked back to Tia. "Looks real." He shrugged.
Aduratis - February 10, 2005 01:05 AM (GMT)
Tia looked indignant. "Of course I can. D'you want to test me? My favorite flying forms are eagle, falcon, or horned owl. We can try right now if you don't mind leaving." She got up and stretched. "It really is lime juice by the way. If you don't believe me then try it yourself." Tia handed him the hip flask. "Don't worry, I'm not sick."
Arcane Blood - February 10, 2005 03:01 AM (GMT)
Majick stuck out his tongue the way one would suspect a three-year-old to do, "You cheat." He put his tongue back in its proper place in his mouth and stood up, "I wouldn't mind leaving though."
"And nah, 's quite all right, thanks." Even though he might've believed her, it was best to stay as far away from that nasty alcohol stuff as he could.
Aduratis - February 10, 2005 09:33 PM (GMT)
Tia made her way over to the door and walked outside. "Ah, much better. Outside is better than inside even if there's a tornado." She pocketed the hip flask, stretching her jeans a little to fit it in.
"I know that you don't want to test me but can I transform anyway? I'm more comfortable in animal. I don't have to be a bird. How about a normal four-legged animal?"
Arcane Blood - February 10, 2005 10:28 PM (GMT)
Majick simply followed her, striding silently and smoothly towards the door before he slipped outside and disappeared from the club. "Mm, I suppose. Outside's better, true. Clubs reek of alcohol... and smoke." Both in which he had a low tolerance for.
He looked at her as if she had something incredibly weird. He raised an eyebrow. "You don't have to ask, y'know."
Aduratis - February 11, 2005 06:33 PM (GMT)
"Oh I don't? Fantastic. Help me think which one to do though. I like doing cat, but wolf is one of my favorites too...Cat's are more inconspicious anyday. Do you have a preferance that you'd like to see? Snow leapord is really beautiful, or maybe, uh...A hybrid? Cat, bat, and lion? I'll do that."
She closed her eyes and instantly her skin and clothes melted down into a bubbling puddle of swirling colors. The puddle reformed itself into what looked like an ebony statue of a cat with bat ears and an oversized tail. It slowly faded into the colors of a calico cat with leathery gray ears and a tan colored tail.
Tia, the now cat-bat-lion, leaped up onto Majick's shoulder and draped herself around his neck. "Another thing or two," She said, her human voice coming from the cat-throat. "My vocal cords didn't change, so I can talk, and all human "feelings" have disapeared. I'm just a really smart hybrid animal who can talk and change into a human."
(Wow. Long post. By the way you can see a picture of the hybrid that I drew
here)
-Arcane Blood- - February 11, 2005 07:19 PM (GMT)
Majick watched her simply, as she stood there deciding what to change into. It didn't really matter to Majick, really. All animals were the same to him. Unless, of course, she changed into a dog. Majick hated and feared dogs for reasons of his own. But if she didn't turn into a dog, it was all fine and dandy from there. He nodded his head at her last comment, in confirmation that he was still listening.
He, again, watched in silence as the shape of her human form dissipated, and all that was left were swirling colors for a moment. Then, remaining still, he observed the colors taking form into some kind of animal. A cat... no, not a cat. It had leathery bat ears, and the tail was far too large for even a plump, large housecat. It was her hybrid.
He smiled as she lept on his shoulder, and he scratched underneath her chin with his nails, lightly. "Neat trick," he grinned.
