Title: Has anyone here got "Reason"?

Is it good? Is it worth it? Considering I have no room on my computer at all, can I fit it in?
Will anyone reply?

It's supposedly great, and I've heard great stuff on it. But... I can't get used to that hideous, unuable step sequencer. And no, you won't have room - it's 1.5 gigabytes.
I use FL Studio. It's about £70, it's small, it's versitile, and it's easy to use. And you can use VSTi's.

So many letters and numbers. I'm easily confused.
I once received some mails off "Lange", and he suggested something called 'Propellerhead' or something to me, and then 'Reason', and then.. I got very confused.
Where did you get this program of yours then, and what kind of music do you, yourself, make on it?
pelago - July 30, 2003 03:57 PM (GMT)
Propellerhead is the company that makes Reason (among other software), if that helps.
http://www.propellerheads.se/products/reason/I fiddled with Reason a year or so ago and thought it was v. funky. Needs a decent PC (my PII 450 128MB wasn't really good enough).

Lange is great! I like Lange.
Yes - most people, if they don't use Cuibase or Logic, tend to use Reason. I think. It has the best synths, and the best samples out of the box. But that sequencer is a pain in the fanny.
I use FL Studio (www.flstudio.com) and I've made trance before, and I still do. But I also have a load of VSTis (Virtual Instruments), like Native Instrument's Pro-53, NI's Absynth, NI's FM7, Z3ta+, V-Station... and stuff. I also make ambient stuff on FL Studio - it's versitile, man!
Download demos of each, see what you fancy. And view Fuego's demo songs in FL Studio - they're brilliant!

Lange is one of my Gods. I've cyber-stalked him for many years, now.
I wouldn't mind hearing some of your stuff, by the way.

I'm working on a breakbeat trancey track now, and I will link it when I'm done. I quite like it!

Good lad. I feel like Pete Waterman now.
I'm gonna make you a star.

One of my new songs is nearl complete, and that's a remix of the awful Plummet - Damaged. I remixed it for a competition on some forum. I like it. It has vocals and everything!
Waterman-me-up, guy!

The "awful" Plummet? I love that song; the Antillas remix that is. Fairly good lyrics for a trance track too, I thought.
Anyway, point me in the right direction when you've finished it.

I've never heard the original mix, but everyone else I know says it's awful. So I just jumped on the bandwagon. But, I do have the Antillas remix, and it's quite good.
Plus, since you're a Lange fan, did you know him and Pulser have a montly radio show? And Lange played his new 2003 remix of I Believe. Whoop!
Level - August 3, 2003 10:52 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it's being re-released for Positiva's 10 year thingy, I think. I didn't know about the radio show though; what station is it on?
And tsk to the bandwagon thing. Who says it's bad and why?
But anyway.. get back to your remix, fella!

A trance forum I visited (namely tranceaddict.com) said it was crap, and cheesey. But they think that about everything that isn't Paul van Dyke, Armin van Buuren or Gabriel & Dresden, really.
And... Lange and Pulser's radio show is
http://www.musicologyonline.com/ there, and can be listened to (last Tuesday of every month) on
DI FM.
They've both been very good.

Hmm, the lyrics are actually quite good, really.
I'll try and check that radio show out.

I heard that the lyrics were based around a father abusing his daughter. Which is fairly weird.
But I'm probably wrong.

Reason is the one of the finest progrmas out there for making music in your bedroom and it has been used by a number of famous techno producers to create tracks so it's quality is excellent.
The main problem I had when playing with it is the skank-me-do sequencer which is just a horrible cum drenched spanish lolita.
Also all modern trance is bad. Pleased to be stopped making your horrible shit that sounds like everything else and hasn't had a spark of dignity since the rise of the superstar DJ.

All modern trance is bad?
I'm someone who still appreciates it, thanks. Move along.

I've just downloaded a CD rip of Lange's 2003 remix of I Believe, and it's quite ace!
Other trance goodness:
BBE - 7 Days and 1 Week (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Matt Darey - Nocturnal Delight
Delerium - After All (Satoshi Tomiie Remix)
Bye!

You played a demo? You're lucky. I splashed out on the full version for the PS2 before reading any reviews. Suffice to say, it's a horrible piece of nonsense with terrible instruments and no real sense of involvement plastered onto a near impossible-to-use interface. For example, the default "click" button is R3.
And I know almost nothing about music production, but I did find a [illegal!] copy of some mega-expensive program about my premises. Called Cubase.

i started off using music 2000 - yes, it is bad, and it is easy to scoff at, but it's a start, and it's really useful for creating little synth samples to ("PRETTY FLOWER" - Ed) about with - using m2k and cooledit pro, you can get some pretty good stuff.
i've moved on to fruityloops 3 now, and that's a lot better, but so very manual... still, i've noticed and upturn in quality of my tracks now i'm using it, which is always a good thing.
also, i got it free.
Shoes - August 30, 2003 08:29 PM (GMT)
Use FruityLoops 4, honey (Which is FL Studio - name change, due to Kellogs). It's this much better: 96%.
palm trees - August 31, 2003 09:55 AM (GMT)
i may consider it, but i'd like to get my head around FL3 properly first.
no sense in wasting all that time spent baffled going "what?", and making a horrible noise, and pretending it's japanese techno.
those were the days.
