Title: Password protection

JayTay - July 21, 2003 07:22 AM (GMT)
It took me a moment to track down the password this morning, is there any way it can be made more obvious as to where it is?

DIGIWORLD_RevStu - July 21, 2003 07:24 AM (GMT)
As we speak, we are putting a system in place for this purpose. It is fiendishly cunning. Stand by.

I wait with my breath baited, no wait bated.

I tried to say this in the other RLLMUK forum or whatever it's called, but the crappy thing's never working. How are you going to stop people handing out the password to their friends, families and dogs? Or am I just being thick again?

I think it's user-specific. But I'm not sure. When I entered the wrong password, it said: 'Sorry, that was the incorrect password for this member account.'

But, you know, it's probably not.

We can't, by any sensible means, stop people from passing around the password. But if someone's determined to give other people the thing that they're paying a Special Friend fee for, and hasten the death of Digiworld while doing it (because if nobody pays, Digiworld dies forever), you'd have to wonder why they were (a) reading Digiworld, and (b) paying for it in order to prevent its death, in the first place.

(That said, if we find anyone giving out passwords to freeloaders, we'll permanently ban them from the forum quicksmart-style, and change all the passwords.)

Aaah so a fox will visit our lodgings one by one and deliver the password-laden scroll via its snout...?

Yeah, I got to thinking that. Anyone who pays isn't going to want to hand the password around. And if they do, they're a bit moronic.

I demand a special prize for initially putting "ish 1" as the password.

Let it be some cheese.

Mark X - July 22, 2003 10:10 PM (GMT)
I notice that the password is now carefully secreted amongst the text on the main forum page. Which saves anyone having to login to Digiworld and flip to TV tuning (if they've forgotten it or something), but once people's Special Friendship has expired, they'll surely know how they can sneak into the forum within a few password attempts. Y'know, like with that teacher's desk in Wargames.

DIGIWORLD_RevStu - July 23, 2003 04:30 AM (GMT)
The password thing says if you have too many failed attempts it will do bad things to you, though we haven't tried. But I refer the gentleman to my earlier reply.

You're not alone.

Gruyère for me, thanks.

I want to be Digiworld's special friend again and again.

The only trouble is, paying to use the forum really puts the pressure on me to say something useful, ya know? Like I should get my money's worth?

I'm just not sure I'm up to the challenge. Ho hum.

Okay!

What I feel is..

.. I really like your jacket.

Bad Ambassador - July 26, 2003 06:16 PM (GMT)
But... I'm not wearing a jacket.

Level - July 28, 2003 04:54 PM (GMT)
Ahh right, yes.

Well, I meant the one your mother is wearing, naturally.

Bad Ambassador - July 28, 2003 07:46 PM (GMT)
Can't argue with that. It is a nice one, yeah.

Level - July 28, 2003 08:07 PM (GMT)
BHS do nice jackets these days, I hear..

This should probably be in the off topic section now, right? Will Digi slap me? Please?
