Title: GRR... XP
Description: :( I miss Chex Quest :(

Richie - July 25, 2003 03:00 AM (GMT)
How do I get the DOS version of Chex Quest 1, 2, & 3 to work on Windows XP?!? I did the compadibility thing but the sound won't work.

Boingo the Clown - July 25, 2003 04:31 AM (GMT)
Get yourself a copy of DooM Legacy, then download a copy of The Ultimate Chex Quest Phase 1 and run is as a PWAD via Legacy's launcher.

Legacy has a Win 32 version. It will run in Windoze X-tra Cra-P.

MMM thats odd, I have XP too and when I play chex quest it works perfectly fine

Richie - July 29, 2003 03:04 AM (GMT)
It works for me but the sound won't work. Is there any way I could fix that?

Flembrane - July 29, 2003 06:38 PM (GMT)
Its still kind of odd, becuase everything works fine for me on my comp, but i didn't even do the compadibility thing.

Richie - July 29, 2003 08:46 PM (GMT)
Now I'm really confused  .

Flembrane - July 29, 2003 08:51 PM (GMT)
Mabye its becuase I installed CQ instead of downloading it. Well what I mean is I installed CQ from the disk I got 6 six years ago, whats weird is I still have the disk. So i found it, installed it and nothing went wrong.

Richie - July 30, 2003 01:18 AM (GMT)
I have it installed to my computer from the original cd.

Flembrane - July 30, 2003 01:31 AM (GMT)
O well um... I cant help you then sorry :(

But i think you should just play with out the sound :ph43r:

Dacicus - July 31, 2003 08:48 PM (GMT)
Maybe the sound problem results from choosing the wrong port address in the setup. I think that's the problem with my computer. It has Windows ME, and I also installed the game from the original CD.

:( Boingo, help me! I just got   X-tra cra-P   , and when I try to load up TUCQ, I get a message that says "CREATEfile failed, unable to pass arguments."
Stupid computer, can't even win a argument with an error.

chexfan2000 - August 23, 2003 11:49 PM (GMT)
Oh, and when I leave the laincher, it says "Unable to save Launcher file"

Since I am not qualified to answer many of the questions put to me regarding the workings of DooM Legacy, the best I can do is refer you to the DooM Legacy forum at http://forums.newdoom.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=16. You may need to register at the New DooM forums in order to post now, but the Legacy team is the best source for answers on getting things up and running.

As for questions directed at me regarding getting Legacy working, I have come up with the following pricing list:

Answers: $1.00

Intelligent Answers: $2.00

Correct Answers: $5.00

Dumb looks and snide comments continue to be offered free of charge.

DISCLAIMER!!!!: I do NOT claim to be an expert with DooM or DooM Legacy. So if I am wrong, just remember that I was just trying to be helpful.

Ok, that having been said, I have an idea!

Download DooM Legacy again, set it up, then run it. Maybe you got a bad download, or it was set up wrong. Again, don't know much about legacy, just trying to be helpful.

And Boingo, I like your prices lol ^_^

froghawk - August 28, 2003 04:37 PM (GMT)
Or buy DOOM 98 and put it through the launcher. Ifg you do the, the result will be the extended version I "made".

froghawk - August 28, 2003 04:38 PM (GMT)
bleh, I mean 95. The doom collector's version is the 95 version.

Just to clear this up, I found out what was wrong. A file I needed was in a folder that wouldn't let me in unless I had administrative privileges. My little brother, who also has such power, took mine away for fun.  Oh, well. Maybe I'll take away his...
