Title: Bad News Regarding the CQ3 Levels
Description: They are stolen from other wads
Boingo the Clown - September 28, 2004 03:47 PM (GMT)
A few days ago, I sent Cybergeeker (a.k.a. Thrasher, or CG for short) a copy of T.U.C.Q. in its current form for him to play test it with the new difficulty levels. This was in preparation for a new beta release. As well as the new difficulty levels, the current test version (not an official release) also contains the levels from Chex Quest 3.
Last night, CG played the CQ3 levels, and confirmed something I feared might be possible:

Tharsher (11:32 PM) : I was looking over e3m1, it looks like it was taken from the Infinity megawad: http://www.hermans.org/doom/index.html Tharsher (11:35 PM) : I'll look over how many other maps they used. Tharsher (11:37 PM) : e3m2 is from the Serenity Megawad Tharsher (11:39 PM) : not sure about e3 except it is from one of the 3 megawads Tharsher (11:39 PM) : *e3m3 Tharsher (11:41 PM) : so maps1-4 have been taken from the maps on that site.

This is bad news.
If the CQ3 levels are stolen from the Serenity series of megawads (Serenity, Eternity, Infinity), then they will definately have to be excluded from T.U.C.Q..
I will keep you informed.

Confirmed.
E1M1 of CQ3 is in fact a VERY slightly modified version of Infinity's E1M1.
E1M2 of CQ3 is actually Eternity's E2M4.
E1M3 of CQ3 is actually Serenity's E3M3.
E1M4 of CQ3 is actually Infinity's E1M4.
E1M5 of CQ3 is actually Infinity's E1M5.
I had already know that much of the graphics for CQ3 had been stolen from other wads, such as the ultimus having been stolen from Ghostbusters TC, but finding out that all the levels were stolen from the Serentiy series, a classic set of DooM levels, is a particularly big dissappointment for me.
Obviously, since they are all stolen, I will have to exclude them from T.U.C.Q..

I really liked Chex Quest 3 too. :(

 stupid CQ3 makers. Does that make literally everything in the game stolen?
Boingo the Clown - September 29, 2004 12:14 AM (GMT)
Not only do I not get to use the maps, meaning that I have to come up with 26 new levels instead of just 21, but all the work a went through to add the levels and fix them up has turned out to be a complete waste of time.
<<EDIT: Perhaps it might be a wise idea that we no longer carry CQ3 on our sites, or at least post a note about the stolen graphics and levels.>>
Flemoid_Slayer - September 29, 2004 01:00 AM (GMT)
AARGH!!! :veryangry:
well that sucks
still, maybe we could use those perfected levels fo chexboss's fixed cq3? :wow:
nah, lets just keep cq3, no one realized this until now anyway
Boingo the Clown - September 29, 2004 01:09 AM (GMT)
Nope. Sorry.
Stolen levels is where I draw the line. The CQ3 levels must be excised.
Loremaster - September 29, 2004 01:25 AM (GMT)
Agreed. Makes me angry, though, that people steal stuff and try and pass it off as their own. That was, after all, what got you started on this proj! I guess us Map Makers around here will have to give you a hand! If you want it, of course! ^_^
Boingo the Clown - September 29, 2004 02:05 AM (GMT)
I will definately take whatever help I can get regarding maps.
I am good at detailing maps and setting up special effects, but I must admit that my skills at making maps with good playability are weak.
chexfan2000 - September 29, 2004 02:18 AM (GMT)
But it was a beta. Perhaps they would have eventually replaced all the stolen stuff with their own. I guess we'll never know.

When you consider that all of the textures had been changed, it makes it very unlikely that the guy/s working on CQ3 had any intention of anything other than a shortcut to Chex Quest stardom.

I recognize some of the graphics. Back then, the shotgun for a used to be play-to-play iwad of Doom "HacX", some of the weapons used have been stolen from this wad.
Just some more information on how the creators of this wad pathetically ripped-off from someone else. Do the people who claim they make the wad still want to say they made it? <_<
(Zorcher checks on other posts that say who mentioned they made Chex Quest 3.)

It was a little joke that was not real. Whoever said that later admitted he didn't.
