Description: I want it.

A while ago on this forum a came across a post about a program called WAD author, but now I can't find the post anymore. Where can you get it again, and is it free, and if not, how much is it?

Wad Author is a free level building program [well, it's shareware, time limit. You can just re-install it though,]. It's availible for download on www.doomworld.com

WAD Author used to have a section on teamdeim.com (I am the leader of Team DeiM), but teamdeim.com is now defunct. :(

How do you download it?
I went to the site, clicked the link, went to another site, and clicked the link to download it. Nothing happened.

Dacicus - September 4, 2003 11:57 PM (GMT)

I can't get it to work. It keeps saying that there's a problem with the wad file, or something like that.
Loremaster - September 8, 2003 11:53 PM (GMT)
That's cause you need the original DooM wad file. No wimpy subs here!

Loremaster - September 11, 2003 01:31 AM (GMT)
Dacicus, did you get WAD Author to work?
Dacicus - September 11, 2003 06:47 AM (GMT)
No. I don't have Doom (and I don't want it), so I just deleted the program.
Boingo the Clown - September 12, 2003 03:01 AM (GMT)
Tisk tisk.
Chex Quest IS DooM, except with different graphics.
If you don't have DooM, you can't edit Chex Quest. All editors require DooM (or DooM II or Heretic) to be installed on your machine. No editor currently exists to specifically edit Chex Quest.

Actually........... I wonder if the Scifience wad will work for it? I doubt it, but it may.
Loremaster - September 12, 2003 03:03 AM (GMT)
BTW: Boingo. How do you create a lift with Wad Author?
Boingo the Clown - September 12, 2003 03:08 AM (GMT)
Sorry. I can't answer that one. I am not an experienced Wad Author user.
DooMCAD is my workhorse when it comes to making levels, mainly because it was the first one I learned to use, and therefore the one I am most familiar with. I will only switch to another editor when it is specifically neccessary. I have only used Wad Author a few times, and only for a few basic functions.
Loremaster - September 12, 2003 03:10 AM (GMT)
I like Wad Author. I tried to start with WinDEU 5.24, but I couldna get my levels to run. Does WinDEU build level nodes, or do you need an external builder? And It's the same question with DooMCAD
chexfan2000 - September 12, 2003 09:26 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know of a WAD Editor that doesn't require dooM?
Loremaster - September 13, 2003 12:19 AM (GMT)
I think they all require a DooM wad file. Like I said earlier, maybe MAYBE, a Scifience or Extended wad will work instead of the DooM wad. I don't know. I'm not gonna try it either, cause I own DooM.
Boingo the Clown - September 13, 2003 12:29 AM (GMT)
Chexfan2000: Nope. There are none. I believe I already mentioned this a couple of posts ago.
Loremaster: Most, if not all, editors have node builders built in to them, and they usually aren't very good. With DooM ports that use opengl mode, such as Legacy, it is best to use a node builder called ZenNode.
Go here.
ZenNode page
Loremaster - September 13, 2003 12:31 AM (GMT)
It's ok. I already have ZenNode, but thanks. I just wanted to know if DooMCAD and WinDEU have nodebuilders built in. I test my levels in DooM95, then once i'm done, i'll rebuild the nodes for openGL. But thanks for the link.
