Title: Original Doom Engine
Description: Can I find it anywhere?

dorfsquest - August 20, 2003 07:33 PM (GMT)
I'd love to try my hands at the same engine Chex Quest was made from. Possibly an Ice Martians one. Does anybody know where I can download that, or if it is even possible?

DooM is still availible from id software. You can buy it from them. At least, that is the legal alternitive. I would not suggest the illegal ones, abandonware and warez. So if you don't like id, just suck it up, and remember that, if not for id, there would be no Chex Quest.

OK. :) Thank you for the input. Is there any free FPS engine out there? As of right now, I'm not making any money.

What do you mean by FPS engine? Like a tutorial or something?

dorfsquest - August 21, 2003 09:52 PM (GMT)
First Person Shooter. An engine similar to the one used to make Chex Quest. Not for GM, but one used to make Doom or something like that.

Loremaster - August 21, 2003 11:22 PM (GMT)
Well....... There are some various 'ports' of the DooM engine, like ZDoom, Boom, Doom Legacy, and DooM95, All of those, save for DooM 95, are free. As for the .WAD file, most editors need an IWAD like DooM, TNT, Plutonia, DooM2, Heretic, or Hexen. Sometimes, you can find a modified IWAD for free on the internet, such as the Scifience wanna-be Chex Quest wad, or the Chex Quest Extended Version from Froghawk [found on this very site!]. Then you need an editor, but that's a different thing altogether, so I won't go into that. Yet ^_^ .

You can basically get the DOOM engine. The source code for heretic and Hexen are released, which is basically just a more advanced DOOM engine.

So, dorfsquest. Having any luck with modifying DooM? The Curiousity is stong in this one...

^^

If dorfsquest makes a CQ fan game it will be good. He's really talented at programming and graphics.

Cool! He was talking about an Ice Martians Total Conversion also. I would most definately enjoy that! I look forward to seeing his work.

Me too, I would like to see Ice Martians as an FPS

froghawk - August 30, 2003 12:58 PM (GMT)
That would be weird.... Ice Martians where you shoot stuff? Ok.....

I suck at graphics. :(

Loremaster - August 31, 2003 07:33 PM (GMT)
Join da klub of da sucky grafix peoples. :(

Richie - August 31, 2003 08:36 PM (GMT)
Naa, Ice Martians is never gonna turn into a FPS.

Loremaster - August 31, 2003 08:41 PM (GMT)
Well, the DooM engine doesn't have to be a FPS only engine. I direct your attention to a total-conversion called Sonic Roboblast 2. It isn't a FPS, it's an actual sonic game. it's fun.

MUST... SEE

Kinda like D00M 2D?

Loremaster - September 1, 2003 03:21 AM (GMT)
Not at all. It's full 3D [DooM full 3D anyway], with 3D movement. But it has a third person view, and you don't use guns or anything like that. Think Sonic Adventure, but with more dated graphics.

Sonic Adventure, with more dated graphics... awesome!! :) Now if only Doom was like that...

Loremaster - September 1, 2003 05:02 AM (GMT)
lol

I've never seen Sonic Adventure. I want to, though.

Doom wasn't fully 3D, though. The walls and environments were, but the monsters were all 2D sprites.

Hate to break it to you Froghawk, but I already knew that
