Title: A gift for the fans!
Description: An all-new flemoid!
Chukker - November 10, 2007 11:40 AM (GMT)
Hello Chex Quest fans!!! A few of you over the years have sent me emails of appreciation on the game and have wondered if I might be able to make some new content for your mods. Honestly I am really busy at work and at home so it is difficult to find time for these sort of projects. However after realizing it has been 10 years since this game came out and there are still people playing it, I figured I could squeeze in some time to make something for you guys who have spent so much of your free time modding it. So here ya go!!! It's an all new flemoid! Call him what you want. He is a cycloptis with an upgraded pod!

He replaces the Cacodemon. You can grab the .png files here:
PNG filesI can't imagine there are an excessive number of people who will download it, but if my domain server gets hit too much I may need to host this stuff elsewhere. I won't worry about it right now. Finally... PLEASE don't send me lots of email or PMs. Absolutely nothing personal towards anyone, but I already get hit with lots of email on a daily basis that I need to sort through and it will be unlikely that I would respond. On behalf of the whole Digital Cafe crew who are now spread all over the country, thanks for being great fans! It was one of our more memorable projects while the company was in its hayday and it's great to see there is still interest. It should be said if you folks didn't already know this, but Chex Quest got off the ground with Ralston because Scott Holman and I were just modding games for fun on the side and Mike and Dean decided they could leverage those skills into making a marketing gimick. So you never know... the skills you community members pick up editing software could benefit you in the future some day!
Thanks again for keeping the game alive, happy 10th anniversary!
Chukker

I assume that you are Charles Jacobi, because www.chucktropolis.com is your domain name, that's where the archive is hosted, and you was the art director and lead artist involved with the production of Chex Quest. :P Anyway, Strife, one of our beloved members here that no longer visits this site and a very talented sprite maker and MIDI composer, has already made a Cacodemon replacement. However, your controbution will not go unnoticed here. I'm sure many here will enjoy that little gift. I do have one question, though. What level is that where you placed that 'thing' (you sly fox, leaving us to guess the name :P )? Did you make that yourself, too? If so, would it be too much trouble to just upload the WAD that has the material shown? And what was the program used to make the sprites (stupid question, yes, but I and mabey some others might would like to know)?
EDIT: Ah. "Super Cycloptis." Just caught the name of the ZIP file. :D
EDIT: Oh, and xbolt --

The first 'official' new Flemoid release since 1997! And Charles Jacobi posted!!!
Dvader0086 - November 10, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
Good job! A new flemoid release... Myabe I should use it in my game...
I don't know if i can though... I already have the cacodemon replace with strife's thingy...
Myabe I will and mybe I won't... I don't know...
Lucius Octavion - November 10, 2007 10:58 PM (GMT)
Shoot Charles Jacobi that really is you isn't it? Pretty rad that there still is so much interest in CQ and stuff. And a real Digital Cafe guys finally posts. Prettty rad, man.
That flemoid is totally rad too. I like those textures that you used too. If you can please post those too!
Thank you for acknowledging us.
So now we can have another cacodemon like monster! If we go to gzdoom then this one can be an even nastier one!

It's just a test environment I threw together with a few new textures. It is only one room right now, but I am gonna try to make a new map and I will certainly upload that WAD when the map is done. The sprites were made using Photoshop.

Wow! (Sorry for bugging you with the e-mail a while ago). Nice flemoid. Thanks for the new flemoids!
oh, and hope your wad goes well. (Goes to download).

The PNGs gave me some trouble when I uploaded them into a WAD with XWE, giving off black backgrounds. Nothing a little image processing didn't fix, though. :P Still, I'd feel more comfortable with an uploaded WAD with the sprites already put into them so I can know the exact "proper" positioning for them.

Shoot, I should have seen that coming from a mile away. :P I even read something about using Photoshop on your site (I do visit occasionally) after I posted that.
Again, thank you for your work on this game, both past, and, apparently, present, as well. B)
EDIT: Also, there was never a Chex Quest sprite replacement for the Doom Cacodemon's fireball (hint hint). ;)
Replica - November 11, 2007 12:53 AM (GMT)
I think you should name it the Chuckeus After you.
Anonymous - November 11, 2007 03:02 AM (GMT)
NICE.
Nice work, Chuck. I wonder if CQ was originally planned to be a Doom-length game?
"Flemodious Chuckeous" has a nice ring to it. :P
The test thing looks really awesome. It could be part of a Chex City. Subways that look like Chex!

You got to teach me how to make such good looking flemoids when ever you have a ton of free time. My flemoids turn out to look fuzzy. *Points to website were you could find them* Do you plan on making more flemoids for your map?

Wow... Truly, a historic day for fans of Chex Quest everywhere! :D
I thank you very much for honoring us with your visit, and a new Flemoid, Chuck! :) Good luck with your WAD!
redbipedicus - November 11, 2007 06:49 PM (GMT)
This... Is.... INCREDIBLE! Never did I ever expect to see a DC team member visit our little forum! You can bet that when I make a mod that I will use that flemoid! This is unbelieveable. All I can say is thank you. :D
atariangamer - November 12, 2007 01:34 PM (GMT)
WOW! I stand in awe of the DC member. And the sweet flemoid he brings. Man, that looks awesome! Whew, I'm getting excited just looking at it! Like red said, can't beleive that Jacobi is here! Sweet!
Hey, that map looks thrown together, but looks a bit better than mine! :D
Good job!
Loremaster - November 12, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
Incredible work, Mr. Jacobi. It's good to see that the original creators are still proud of that little game.
By the By, welcome to the forums. ^_^
Boingo the Clown - November 13, 2007 12:00 AM (GMT)
The new flemoid will definitely end up in T.U.C.Q.. When Chuck emailed me about it, I was very excited. This is the kind of thing to rekindle my enthusiasm and get me back to work on the project.
Anonymous - November 13, 2007 01:38 AM (GMT)
Boingo, what about that floating flemoid in the current TUCQ? Is that still the Cacodemon, or is it going to be something else?
Replica - November 13, 2007 01:40 AM (GMT)
Now htat he switched to Gzdom, he can have them both ^_^

The floating flemoid you saw is actually meant as a replacement for the lost soul, so there is no conflict.

...
I need to stick around here more. I leave, and look what you guys get into! Man, i feel left out...
Seriously, that is sweet!!
Replica - November 16, 2007 03:54 AM (GMT)
Some one should pin this.
Loremaster - November 16, 2007 06:14 AM (GMT)
It IS a rather important update. Pinned it shall be for a spell.
Kuwabara - November 16, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
God has graced these forms. (joking.) Thanks for the new flemoid, and welcome to the forums Jacobi!

Anyway, Strife, one of our beloved members here that no longer visits this site and a very talented sprite maker and MIDI composer, has already made a Cacodemon replacement. |
What is the replacement? And we don't necessarily have to replace Strife's copy, just put Chuck's into a different slot.
We have to give it an official Latin name, even combine two if we need to. Hmmm maybe Cycloptisque, which if I am spelling right directly means "Cyclops and (more)" Also an different way to say it is another copy.
But yes it would be amazing if we could get a lot of the DC guys here.
Don't forget to visit our shrine:
http://chexquest.wikia.com/wiki/Digital_Caf%C3%A9But wow the Art Director and the Lead Artist, quite an honor.

- It can be found in both of Strife's Level Packs. And it's been generally agreed upon that Chukker's replacement will be the new, official (and it really is, anyway) Cacodemon replacement, moving the Tenacious into a different position, not the new Super Cycloptis.
- A name has already been agreed upon, Flemoidus Cycloptis Ultricus, for the new Flemoid, with the common, generic name being Super Cycloptis. The name for Strife's Replacement is Flemoidus Cycloptis Tenacious.

So... Does this mean there's going to be an official sequel to the original Chex Quest? You were (if it was you) a great level designer, at least in my opinion.
So... Anyone replacing the other enemies yet?

Hes a new member he probably didn't know Chex Quest 2 existed (I used past tense because the website no longer exists). I didn't know that Chex Quest 2 existed until I looked up Chex Quest on Wikipedia.
Also now that Chuck is here he can make an account on the wiki and sign off on us using screenshots from Chex Quest.

X8 I didn't look at his join date so assumed that by asking about a sequel for Chex Quest 1 he hasn't been here long to know there is a Chex Quest 2.
Also this new flemoid is Flemoidus Ultimus right? I am going to update the picture on the Wiki.

The official, formal, [dog] Latin name is Flemoidus Cycloptis Ultricus (NOT Ultimus), and the common name is Super Cycloptis.

"Flemoidus Cycloptis Nastius!" :D
Kuwabara - November 24, 2007 05:55 AM (GMT)

Failoid.
