Title: Freshman-ism
Description: it's rediculous.
Aang1 - October 24, 2007 01:33 AM (GMT)
I'm a freshman of High School now, and the first thing that I noticed, is that everyone has a stigma against Freshmen(is it kind of like racism?), and It's gotten to the point of being rediculous, everyone is all like "freshmen are idiots," or "freshmen are a waste of air." And it's even gotten to the point of Sophomores (only a year older than freshmen) are going with it! This is where you can post about weird freshman-ism stories.
Here's Mine:
All was going good in school(despite the huge crowds and stupid comments.), when someone randomly decided to go in revolt against freshmen! They started sending E-mails that went a little bit like this:
Dear fellow students of [keeping school name anonymous.],
We seniors, Juniors, and sophomores are abiding by the school rules and regulations, but the Freshmen are litterers, thieves, bullies, idiots[to not use another term that was acutally said in the e-mail.], and overall just a waste of space, time, air, money, and attention, we need to stop this madness at once.
Sign this petition to have ALL FRESHMEN moved back to their old middle schools to leave us REAL students to our work.
Sincerely, [anonymous person].
and since at my school, freshmen IDs are yellow, a giant mob a people were wearing all yellow and were stalking the halls to stick up for the freshmen.
The End.

Thank God that I never went to public school.
What age group is freshman typically, anyway? I have a hard time remembering all of those "school terms".
Allen Walker - October 24, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
Freshmen are 14 when they are in Highschool.
Manny Cav - October 24, 2007 01:50 AM (GMT)
Well... I'm 16, but my next year will likely be my Senior year, so what does that make me?

Allen and I were exceptions to that rule, we were 15 when we started. (we got to the party late.)

14 sounds about right. The whole freshman discrimination doesn't happen in my school, but certian rights are reserved only for the last three years.
BTW, Its my first year in high school, too. ^_^
(yeah, i'm 14)
brain candy - October 24, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
I didn't notice any freshman discrimination, but we also had "ELPers" at our school who were technically in 7th and 8th grade. So they'd be the bottom of the barrel. They didn't get tortured either though.
The only thing I can remember was this completely ridiculous middle school I had to go to once we moved from Texas to Utah. In Texas, middle school was 6, 7, and 8th grade, but in Utah it was only 7 and 8th grade. So the 7th graders were the newbies, and the 8th graders were the wise ones (ridiculous how that happens in a year huh?). I had to experience 8th grade at that awful waste of space of a school, and everyone thought I was a "sevy" (seventh grader) because I was new, and would randomly chant "sevy!" at me. I wanted to smack them around and tell them that when they were still in elementary school having nap time I had already been in middle school. Moral of the story? Public schools don't suck... just certain ones in certain regions... like Utah.

My brother went to public school one year in his life. I think it was junior high or something. It's a public school, but a very good one, one that I'd actually consider letting my kids attend.

I think public schools are reflective of their region, culture and all that good stuff (along with funding, school priorities, etc). I would definitely allow my children to attend the Houston schools I did because I know they'd be getting one of the best educations available to them. Utah on the other hand... no way. They'd be going private.
Loremaster - October 24, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
Eh, it happened kind at my school. I even participated [but in my defense, they really WERE rather uncouth. I'll grant you I wasn't much better as a frosh, but they really were a poorly behaved bunch {at least, the class my junior year was}]
However, if you remove the frosh from the school, then the Sophomores become the Frosh...

 You have kids? I've fooled people saying I have a kid, but I don't even have a girlfriend!(as of this post) Also, Utah has BYU...thats a good college.

And I don't have kids either. :P
I'm not trashing the Utah colleges (I go to a Utah University)... there are a bunch of good public and private universities here that are nationally recognized. It's just our horribly behind and underfunded public K-12 school system I'm complaining about.

In my district, 6th grade was elementary school until last year. Last year was the last 6th grade elementary school year. Now it's middle school.
My siblings seem to be annoyed with the freshman...
But my sister's one, first year in college.
xbolt - October 24, 2007 11:43 PM (GMT)
Sheesh... I wonder if those guys that pick on freshmen ever stop to think that they themselves were freshmen once...
Probably not.

Didn't read my post much, didja? ^_^
In college, however, you really don't distinguish between the "grades". At least, not at my school.

Wow, a random topic by a random guy who doesn't come to the forums that often anymore, and BOOM! it explodes into a big discussion(generally my topics are one page "epics".)!
Cool! ^_^

Dude, they called the seventh graders here Sevies too! I got called a sevy in 8th grade because I was new so they assumed I was a sevy (that's how small and cliquey that awful school was). I wish I could go back and beat the crud out of all those immature little brats I had to put up with during my "Utah intermediate school" year. I had already been in Middle School a good year longer than the rest of them (in Houston it's 6th, 7th, and 8th grade). Brats!
I thought it was so pathetic that in just a year they went from the newbs of the school to the supposed "kings." They haven't grown that much...
(I'm done venting now.)
Quarkz - November 2, 2007 01:25 AM (GMT)
ok, freshmen suffer. its a fact of HS life. unless you get lucky and get mistaken for a sophmore. but then you go to 'crew and try to figure out how many freshmen it takes to screw in a lightbulb (think it was 7 or 8).
my point is, being a freshman sucks, but you gotta deal with it. besides, unless you got a super hardcore hazing school, its all talk. and when you move up a grade, then you can talk about how much the current freshmen suck.
now that my motivational schpeel is over i laugh. i laugh at your freshman- ness. ha. ha ha..... ha

I may be a sophmore, but I don't make freshman jokes, they just seem cruel and pointless...everyones been a freshman once in there life. (Even if you are homeschooled, you can go to those homeschooling groups and the older kids pick on the younger kids.)
