Title: free online game

pikazec2012 - October 6, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
does anyone know of a good online game. ive played runescape but my paretns wont let me anymore. i would try maplestory but you have to download it. and im playing adventure quest but its hard to logg on only a certain number of people at a time can be on and its useually full

brain candy - October 6, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
Would you be completely against downloading a game then? Because there are some really awesome and spiffy online games (mainly MMOs that I can think of), that are worth checking out, including Maplestory.

Why aren't your parents letting you play Runescape anymore?

Glassyman - October 6, 2007 07:17 PM (GMT)
Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory. The best online game ever created. And it's FREE!!!. Don't forget to install the patch.

Dvader0086 - October 6, 2007 07:32 PM (GMT)
or you could try Guild Wars... No fee for a subscription just hafta buy the game first... The first one is only $30.00 in the Play NC Store. It's kinda like runescaped but I have no idea what it's rated for gameplay content. You can look it up at ESRB.com.

pikazec2012 - October 6, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
im not 100 % aginst downloading just maybe 50% the game would have to be worth it. also if i wanted to pay for a game id get starwars battlefront or empire at war so i dont think id try that one. btw the game probaly needs to be family friendly im only 13 and my parents are strict about what i play. but i have no idea why i cant play runescape. i played it for 3 years before my dad even said anything to me about it

Try Silkroad Online. It's completely free, though you do have to download it. But it's pretty good, lots of fun. If you're Chinese on the Sparta server I can show you around a little.

pikazec2012 - October 7, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
okay im not 100% against downloading like i said earlier but for some reason i dont think i'll be playing maplestory. it would take52 hours to download.

Why are you saying this? I often play with my uncle and sometimes with my father (I always win but saying this is pleonastic). ^_^

I think they are rated M, but am not sure...

Enemy Territory certainly is. Fun game, but parents of younger children might object to some of the content.

Dvader0086 - October 8, 2007 12:26 AM (GMT)
As far as I know all games from ID are rated M exept commander keen and others that run on dos...

Lucius Octavion - October 8, 2007 01:28 AM (GMT)
The new Enemy Territory, Quake Wars, is actually rated T. Shame on id... no exploding bodies or saws or anything...

Whoopee! :D

*coughs* Uhh... now, what kind of online games are you looking for? MMOs? Or a more "regular" game?

pikazec2012 - October 8, 2007 01:35 AM (GMT)
it doesn't really matter. i was thinking mmo's but adventure quest and dragon fable arnt and they are pretty cool

Plus, they said that for Rage, they were aiming for a 'T' rating. Which is a plus in my book.

Lucius Octavion - October 8, 2007 05:09 AM (GMT)
I don't like the T rating because essentially they are watered down M games with certain things removed etc. I am by no means saying that this is necessary to make a good game and that all T games are bad, but with a game like Rage, or Quake Wars, it just doesn't make any sense at all to make it a T rated game. I don't know why you would want Rage to be a T rated game.

atariangamer - October 8, 2007 12:21 PM (GMT)
well, for a regular game, I found one called Motherload on miniclip.com
it has no point till you get to the bottom of the tunnel...(check it out to see what I mean...) ^_^

Glassyman - October 8, 2007 01:09 PM (GMT)
I don't know what "T" "M" mean, but what's the problem? My parents have never forbidden a game.

Hahaha, what? I thought you played games like Doom 3 (which is rated M) all the time.

They're "ratings" assigned to games. A T means that it's recommended for 13 or above (but I've been playing T rated games long before that), while a M rating means nobody younger than 17. In fact, stores like Wal-Mart or Game Stop in the United States can't sell you M rated games without a legal guardian or some proof of age.

Here's a website for you to look at.

Ironically, Europe and America are reversed when it comes to violence in Video Games.

In America, we don't mind violence in our TV, but we do in our games.
In Europe, they don't mind violence in games, but they do in TV.

*shrug* I always figure that if a game or show wouldn't be good without the gore, then it's a crap game and is good only for either the engine [modding], or for using the game CD in some project [Wheels for gravity cars!]

I never watch TV so I don't know.

Take family guy for instance... Lots of violence on that show, and I went to europe so I know that they don't allow violent shows... You can see they're examples on pbs on sunday...

Well, yeah. I don't like all the stuff in it, but I play it anyway. (So I'm inconsistent. What're you gonna do? :P )

Anyway, Doom 3 is the few M games I play. (Well, I suppose technically, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is rated M, but I disagree with the rating.) 9/10 of my games are T. (Note that the given number is an estimate. The statement has not been approved by the ESRB, MPAA, FDA, FDIC, CIA, FBI, MI6, ACME, or other thing like that.)

You might be interested in Ragnarok if you liked Runescape. It's rated "12+" and from what I remember of it, it is insanely tame and kid friendly. In fact, it's very Maplestory like in that you kill a lot of little jello ball things...

The official game requires a subscription fee, but Ragnarok has a *ton* of free, non-official, but very stable servers. They all have different themes, and have altered the gameplay slightly... but it can be real fun. I played on "RO Forever" for a couple of months, but it proved to be a semi-unpopulated server. Still fun though.

Anyways, it's a pretty fun game that you can play for free without going through too much trouble.

Ragnarok

I play VERY few M games. Only Alien Arena and Urban Terror.

Dvader0086 - October 9, 2007 08:12 PM (GMT)
I have lots of rated "M" games, Including: The whole doom series, Heretic, Hexen and expantion, Wolfentein 3-D and SoD, American Magee's Alice, Dungeon Siege 2, Blood Omen and Non-US Soul Reaver... I think that's it... I got a number of source ports for Doom, Hexen and Heretic, I scour the internet for new Risen3D maps... So I am always up to somthing...

Anonymous - October 9, 2007 10:59 PM (GMT)
I'm not allowed to play it anymore. Not until i'm 17.

Dvader0086 - October 9, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
I first started playing doom before I was old enough and I gotta tell you, It made me so scared of first person shooters that when I got Chex Quest I was too scared to play it... I only got over my fear of FPS after I started playing Chex Quest again in high school... FPS still scare me somtimes when I play them when enimies appear out of nowhere...

pikazec2012 - October 10, 2007 12:20 AM (GMT)

Anonymous - October 10, 2007 12:28 AM (GMT)

If you are looking for a SMALL filesize for MMOs, that's going to be tougher. I'm assuming you're on a dialup connection.

Runescape is a good fall-back, and if you don't mind text-based MUDs there's always the IronRealms series of games. None are too system-intensive, and none really require much if any downloading.

Kuwabara - October 10, 2007 01:31 AM (GMT)
I tried that once,(Ragnarok) I never got it to work. Then again, it was new and I was a computer N00b back then... And, for my two cents(cue rushnerd for the two pennies pic) I say Maple Story. Just because it's fun, and I am pretty sure your 'rents will allow it because the monsters are aiming to be cute. (does'nt everything in Asia try that?)

Lucius Octavion - October 10, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
Come on, I played doom when I was five years old!

Anonymous, why were you allowed to play doom and now all of a sudden not anymore?
