Title: RC0 (Beta 2) / RC0.5 (Beta 2.5)
Description: Progress

Hello everyone,

Let's forget the other post filled of begging and cajoling. I realize not all of you are interested in seeing my DOOM "pretty-ified" .WAD, and for that, I don't blame you. It is DOOM's property, after all... but who says I can't unleash my creativity a bit? ;)

A second release candidate, 0.5, is coming out soon. This doesn't mean the look and feel is completely final at this point: it's not. There is still general fit and finish to be done, and there are still minor bugs and missing textures here and there. Also, 0.5 doesn't mean this is halfway done: there will be a RC1 and maybe a RC2, then the final release. The final release will be christened... oh, why tell now? Sometimes surprises can be fun. ;)

Anyway. 0.5 isn't quite ready, mind you, but I've released some pictures for your enjoyment. Please note that they are all almost the same -- nature looking. Does that mean the whole pack has been transformed to nature-looking levels? No-no-no. Sorry I couldn't take more of a variety of pictures, due to space and time constraints. And, sorry for the text and green "glass" over the gameplay - don't know how to disable them. Those pictures are sorta crappy and don't show the whole experience - trust me, there's much more to this than those pictures. But, hey, it's better than nothing, huh?

Here goes. To enlarge a picture, simply click it. (I know, what a pain.)

Thanks!

--Andy

Cool, dude. However, the sky textures are wrong - you should work on that.
Past that, do you have a progress report?

Lucius Octavion - March 5, 2006 10:55 PM (GMT)
That is a LOT of work. But I think you should just make your own levels. If you want to have lots of freedom, you should have to make levels anyway. That is just a lot of work you did though.

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies!

Yes, I know the sky texture is wrong. In E1M1 to E1M9, the sky texture is the beautiful original mountain one. I'm not sure how to make that texture apply to E2M1-E2M6, tho.

Progress: Two "new" levels will be added to the game, and the incomplete levels are eventually coming together. Bugs in the textures and missing textures are being covered in the completed levels.

The interface for the incomplete levels currently in RC0 (the WAD you had, the original RC0) is NOT final yet, don't worry.

Have you fixed the end-level bug yet? Because that is one of the more important problems.

Andy11 - March 6, 2006 12:41 AM (GMT)
RRPPO:

I have no idea how to. Those problems aren't my fault, tho: they're left over by DOOM.

And, do you know how to make the sky texture the same in every level?

Kuwabara - March 6, 2006 12:59 AM (GMT)
The levels look lush and foliage-y.they also look pretty fun.good work andy!

Lucius Octavion - March 6, 2006 02:02 AM (GMT)
To make the sky texture the same in every level, open xwe as normal, delete the present sky texture. It should be called "sky1" i think.

Here are all steps:

- Delete present "sky 1" the plant thing

- Import the mountain sky texture and put it in between the markers pp_start and pp_end in the wad file

- Make 3 copies of that entry (mountains) in the wad so you have now 4 in all.

- Name them
Sky 1
Sky 2
Sky 3
Sky 4

and Bingo!

Good job, though no lmps in Doom have spaces.
I have not finalized my thoughts on the end-level bug, but I have a theory, and while it would be hard to explain, I would suggest putting the levels back in their original position, see if it helps.

rrppo - March 6, 2006 02:47 AM (GMT)
Yep. It works, except on a few levels which refrenc tag 666.

rrppo finds an error in everything...

what is the end level bug?

play the crappy scifience version past E1M5 and you'll find out.

Lucius Octavion - March 9, 2006 01:36 AM (GMT)
The whole scifience version is SO crappy that I don't know what crappy part you are talking about! :) Its hard to distinguish types of crappiness when the whole thing is so crappy you know. :D

Correction: Try to enter E1M5 through E1M4 and you'll find out.
