Best show of this summer, no doubt about it. (Yeah, it even beats Hidamari, and that's saying alot. :wub:)

| Set in a world similar to Earth in the mid twentieth century, Strike Witches tells the story of a fight to protect that world using a combination of magic and technology. The titular Strike Witches, a group of young women with high magical potential, have been gathered together from various nations in a task force to fight against the enigmatic Neuroi, which made their first strike in the year 1939. This puzzling enemy force has appeared frequently and without warning in many areas across the world. The weapons of the Neuroi mostly take on forms similar to propeller aircraft but their most troubling tactic is the spreading of a corrosive miasma. Not only do normal humans have no defense against this miasma, but the remnants of the land affected by it are processed by the Neuroi into new weapons, crumbling huge sections of former nations into the sea. As the miasma seems to be unable to spread across large bodies of water, humanity has designated such areas as their main lines of defense. In order to bring out their potential for use in battle, each Witch equips a unique machine onto their legs: the Striker Unit. With the Striker Unit equipped, they gain the ability to fly and their tapped magical potential provides the strength to utilize weapons far too heavy and powerful for a normal person. Also created is a defensive field that can protect the Witches from the Neuroi's miasma as well as other physical weaponry, making them humanity's trump card in the war. The franchise's main media focuses on the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, spearheading the counterattack in war-torn Europe in the year 1947. |
So then, we have our main protagonist, Yoshika Miyafuji, who's father was supposedly killed in the war years ago, and the Main Commander, Mio Sakamoto, who recruits her after witnessing her healing powers. Both hail from the Fuso Empire of Japan.
Then we have other witches, such as Charlotte E. Yeager, a supple, light-hearted American girl, and Perrine-H. Clostermann, a refined and proper French woman, and Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke, the Sisterly-type 18 year old from Nazi Germany, along with a slew of others, all pictured here:
It really, really doesn't get much better, does it?

Ottoman was WWI.
They have the 3 major powers of both sides and then 1 whatever country. If they tried to get characters from every country that had a WWII ace, the character list would be immense.
But man do they like their Axis pilots. Not sure why. Well, I know why they dig the Japanese aces, but 3 Germans?

And while doing a little checking, given that the Germans were the only folk who managed aces with over a hundred kills, and Hartmann and Barkhorn had over 300, that does give them a slight advantage when folk go looking for WWII aces. :unsure:

One could argue that since this is based on the WWII-era world, Canada is not distinguished from Britain. And one of the girls is from Canada.

Judging by the threat letter from Trevor Baloney (One of the politicians in the Fourth(?) episode), and with all that's been revealed/happened to Minna in the past two episodes (Finding the package from her boyfriend that was killed in a bombing & Mio going to fight in spite of Minna's dramatic plea.), I'll bet that there's some sort of Assassination Attempt on her in the next two episodes. It's out there, but knowing GONZO and how things may become political as well as dramatic, it could happen. And with Trude's sister waking up from her coma, I've got a feeling that she could come into play. Not too optimistic about what may happen, though. |
