In the spirit of creating pointless forum clubs with no purpose other than to annoy Wally, I propose the Azu-Radio Ownage Faction, or A.R.O.F., and open it to anyone who likes Azumanga Daioh and has even the slightest interest in land-mobile radio.
In keeping with forum tradition, all you have to do is pick your favorite two-way radio. It can be commercial, amateur, a kit, or even something you built. (no stereos or broadcast receivers, but scanners are OK) I'll even be a good sport and open it up to manufacturers other than Motorola, such as ICOM, Kenwood, Yaseu/Vertex-Standard, Tait, Bendix-King, Uniden, etc.
Sig-Makers: Do so of your own free will.
Mods: Delete if necessary. My goal is not to clutter sigs/the forum... or is it? :blink:
Having said all of that, my favorite radio is the Motorola Astro Saber. Here's a pic:
This radio is capable of both the VSELP and IMBE digital vocoders, depending on version (IMBE is part of the APCO-25 standard), can do trunking, and is used by agencies such as the LAPD and the FBI. I am the proud owner of a UHF Model III (looks exactly like the one on the left) with the LAPD codeplug.
