Title: lauscho's Musical Creations
Description: Nine Aqueducts Dreaming (11/11/07)

Ongaku - June 17, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
Ok, Here are some updates (Oct. 16, 2005):

Shane Bazinet recently left the band, and we are currently looking for a new vocalist. The band is also in need of a name. We never really had a name before this either, and usually just referred to ourselves as "The Shane Bazinet Band". Any suggestions for a new band name are welcome :). Since the band's "odd one out" in terms of musical tastes is out, we're also more able to focus on a tighter prog-metal sound, instead of a more pop-rock style. Also, for my own home recordings, progress is running very slowly. If I have time and feel ok enough to do so this week, I may work on a couple more tracks, and post them on my Purevolume page. Also, I will be working with Shane Bazinet a little bit for his own upcoming folk-rock recordings as well, adding lead guitar to some of his demo tracks. I'll also be making a new Purevolume account for the band, once a name is finally chosen and decided upon.

http://www.purevolume.com/travislausch

There are 3 songs there: "Coming Soon", "Pigtails And Floating Dust", and "Jesper". Be sure to check them out!

I really liked Coming Soon, I even posted it on "what are you listining to now" a few weeks ago.

:o

I'd love to see that thread with my name in it... whereabouts did you post this great, great honor?

Ongaku - June 24, 2005 11:38 PM (GMT)
I am currently working on even more music using Fruity Loops for drum/bass/piano accompaniment. So far, the latest song I'm working on is going to be a cross between techno and instrumental guitar. When I have some stuff finished, I'll be sure to post it!

Shiken - June 27, 2005 04:54 AM (GMT)
Fruity Loops for the win! :o

Ongaku - July 1, 2005 12:23 AM (GMT)
I've finished that song. The title is "Pigtails And Floating Dust" (you can take a guess as to what inspired the title ;) ). The song is an instrumental guitar song, like "Jesper" (which is still available for download from my Purevolume site), but there is a little bit of techno and industrial influence in it (hey, I did use Fruity Loops to make the drum/bass/keyboard tracks :P). Personally, I'm proudest of this work. When I upload it to my Purevolume site, I'll be sure to let you all know.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this song was extremely difficult to mix. So don't expect the guitar leads to be in absolutely perfect time with the backing track 100% of the time :P

Edit #2: The song is now available for download/listening on www.purevolume.com/travislausch

Edit #3: Fixed broken link. -_-

Ongaku - July 21, 2005 08:50 PM (GMT)
Update: Recording has stalled on my CD I've been working on, "Digital Sundial". This is because of computer issues (nothing bad, but I may not be able to record much with such a crappy sound card :P). If I get back to it, I'll be sure to let y'all know. For the time being, my purevolume site is still hosting 3 songs, and there are still 2 unposted songs on my HD that I may post on purevolume later on. Be sure to listen to what you can, and enjoy it ^_^.

And please, if you do listen to it, leave a comment here. I'd really like to know what you all think :).

Ongaku - July 26, 2005 01:23 AM (GMT)
Update: Songs from Shane Bazinet's purevolume account were taken down, citing that they are "low quality, and not the best representation of our sound". I always thought they were good, though :(.

Updated post #1 8D

Jason - October 17, 2005 07:28 AM (GMT)
ZOMG post I forgot about! :o

In all honesty, I didn't like Coming Soon very much. It's a bit on the repetitive side. Except the outro solo/last minute. That's good stuff. Most of the rest of it, sorry dude. Nothing personal. Just doesn't hit my musical spot.

Now, on the other hand jesper and pigtails I liked. But it's late and the musical part of my brain's not working well enough to give useful feedback now.

Souji - October 18, 2005 12:49 PM (GMT)
I dunno... it just doesn't catch my tastes.... maybe it's because it just sounds too much plain BGM-ish? dunno. I'm no qualified music man. But it kinda sounds like your generic FPS-ish BGM or something to that effect... sry -_-

Who said anything about this being video game-style music? :P

I can accept that it won't meet everyone's tastes. Thanks for being honest :)

I also finished our band's first song written since the singer left. I have a power tab available at the moment, and maybe we'll record it and put up an mp3 when we have the time (boo school).

Edit: Also, don't excpect the songs on the site to be studio-quality, polished tracks. Those are just basically rough recordings, and still need to be polished a bit :)

With the new band name, The Crayola Mishap, I've decided to resurrect this thread once again. This time, I got another recording to share with you all:

The Crayola Mishap - Is This Some Kind Of Sick Joke?

It's a 4 minute instrumental recorded in our school's music hall this past May. It was written by our keyboardist, Ray Lavoie, and functions as somewhat of a showcase for my playing. Again, the quality is a bit rough, as it was originally recorded on a cassette recorder, but a lot of people seem to enjoy this piece :).

And I hope you will too :)

Jason - October 30, 2005 05:55 AM (GMT)
It's really nice, but the overal chord progressions are a bit too repetitive. If I remember correctly, I think there's only about 3 or 4 slightly different ones that just cycle a few times. It could use a section or two not based around the tonic. Needs more harmoic variety.

Rebecca - October 31, 2005 04:02 AM (GMT)
Those songs are great, Ongaku-san ^_^

*is humbled*

I'm going to try and record some new stuff this week in the music room again. I'll see about replacing my old, worn out cassette tape too... :P

Ongaku - December 19, 2005 06:12 AM (GMT)
Not a Crayola Mishap song, but here's a quick something I recently recorded.

Travis Lausch - City Of Dreams

I'm thinking of re-recording this with full band accompaniment and using electric guitars, but I like the results as they are now :)

Hahaha, nope! I got it! And it's great. :D *5-star rates on her iTunes* ^_^ It's got such a good rhythm. *hopes to play that well YEARS from now* <3 keep up the great work, Ongaku-kun!

Thanks ^_^

As far as updates re: the band/recording/whatever go, lack of a functional guitar amp has stalled all of my recording for the moment. I'm working on backing tracks right now though. The Crayola Mishap also recently debuted our new lead singer, Shannon Dicks, on stage Dec 23. Our performance was great, though the sound was horrible. The band is sorta on break for the winter holidays. I'm writing, but there isn't really much of a chance to practice or perform for now.

HAY INVISIONFREE ATE MY THREAD

Anyways, I already posted a link to it in the now playing thread, but I'll let it reside here. A new song I put together in GarageBand today.

Ontario

Yeah, the title's uninspired. The music is pretty much half out-of-the-box loops, half composed by me.

It never really occured to me :P

And I composed all the loops for the heavy guitar parts, most of the bass, and changed some parts of the clean guitar. Other than that, pretty much the rest of it is out of the box.

Thanks. I think on my next venture to GarageBand, I'm gonna try something serious with this whole "musical typing" thing, and mix it with some live guitars. I'll warn you people though, I'm not much of a pianist =(

Edit: Mamma mia! An Audiri.com link to this song!

osakaki - November 18, 2006 09:19 AM (GMT)
Gee, I wish I had piano loops like yours, and not the eight crappy ones that came with Acid 2.0!

lauscho - November 27, 2006 08:51 PM (GMT)
Ok. So, I talked to the band's keyboardist, Ray, and the decision is final. The band's name is now Zzyzx. The reason for this... well, Crayola is a registered trademark. So... uhhh... yeah =/.

Anyways, we'll be having a band meeting this week. First one since June. The point of it: to outline our future as a group. At the moment, we're down to three people: myself on guitar, Ray on keyboards and Tim on drums. Ray has expressed his desire to sing on a song of his, and if I like his voice enough, I may ask him to be our permanent vocalist. As for recording, I can handle the bass playing duties myself. If that works out, we can continue as a power trio, THE CANADIAN WAY. Another aspect of my band's future I wish to outline: our musical direction. Hunter was a real metal-head, and pulled me away from the direction I wanted to go. I want to write more prog-ish songs, since I'm not really into metal as much as the rest of the band. There'll still be heavy riffs, but the music will be a little more atmospheric, more Floyd-ish.

I don't have any new recordings to share, unfortunately. This post is really more of a news post for the fans on the forum.

We usually try to, whenever we do have them. But we haven't performed live at all since last December, and I don't see us doing so until some things get sorted out, member-wise =(

lauscho - December 4, 2006 02:05 AM (GMT)
It's not a very good recording, but this is a crappy video of what the band's drummer and I come up with off the top of our heads in his basement

New Song (03/12/06)

Warning: The sound quality is horrible.

lauscho - December 10, 2006 07:49 AM (GMT)
Another new song to share with you guys...

Pilgrimage To Kamchatka

On this recording, I play guitar and keyboards. The drums are provided by my Digitech RP200A multi-effects pedal for the guitar. The song is fairly long (at just over 10 minutes long), yet seems shorter than it is. I really enjoy the guitar solo in this piece. The keyboards were a bit too low in the latter half of the piece though, and I'm not much of a keyboardist :[

Bear in mind that is totally a demo, and not meant to be a professional-quality recording at all XP.

I was originally going to lay down a vocal track for it, but I need a mic first.

lauscho - December 29, 2006 09:00 AM (GMT)
So, what started as a project to record some solo songs is going to turn into a full album. I know that, quality-wise, it's going to be more akin to a demo, but I'm calling it an "album", since I'm putting my full effort into this, and it will be released locally on a small independent label run by a friend of mine.

Anyways, the title of it will be "Nine Aqueducts Dreaming", which was sort of suggested by our very own Yomatsuri, and will consist of new material that I wrote specifically for the new project, as well as some older songs that I'm re-recording.

I play all of the instruments on the record, and programmed all of the loops in GarageBand. I'll also be getting my good friend Shane Daniel to put down vocals on four songs.

So, here's the tracklist (as well as progress reports):

1 - Prelude (finished)
2 - Tell Me (needs vocals)
3 - Finding Peace (finished)
4 - Aerodynamics Of In-Flight Pigs (needs vocals)
5 - Ontario (finished)
6 - City Of Dreams (demoed)
7 - Nine Aqueducts Dreaming (finished)
8 - These Walls (demoed)
9 - Schrödinger's Cat (demoed, may be finished if it's the best take)
10 - The Gate (written, not demoed)
11 - Nekomimi Mushrooms (demoed)
12 - Saviour (finished)
13 - ..-...--.-.-.- (written, not demoed)
14 - Postlude (not written yet)

lauscho - January 17, 2007 07:16 PM (GMT)
Posting again huh.

Travis Lausch - Saviour

Just a really dead-simple blues/jazz riff I wrote on my 7-stringer that I decided to record a solo over. It's definitely not the final version, since I'll be doing some EQ tweaking on the guitars and adding some piano parts later on. I just thought it'd be nice to get some feedback on this version. And yes, I know it's the same riff played for 3 minutes :P

Also:

No longer true, as I'll be recording "City Of Dreams" and "The Gate" with my Zzyzx bandmate, Tim Larocque, who'll play drums.

Just as I did for your band <3

And I have new stuffs to share. I decided to have a little fun with GarageBand, and what came out was this song:

Travis Lausch - Schrödinger's Cat

It's composed (so far) entirely out of GarageBand loops... only this time, I decided to cut them off before their natural endings. So, basically, I broke that rule in GarageBand that says you can't change time signatures within a project, and came out with something with sections in 7/8, 5/8, and 6/4.

Notes to consider:

- yes, this all loops
- it's unfinished, and I plan to lengthen the song a bit, and improve the flow of some sections
- I am adding a guitar solo to the 4/4 section
