Title: Vector traces
Description: NEW: BECKY-SENSEI!
RazorTM - October 10, 2004 07:12 AM (GMT)
I've always admired people who do vector traces of images. The traces always come out so nice and clean. Therefore, I decided to try my hand at it. I've found that it's not incredibly difficult, but it is very, very time-consuming. My first vector trace is one of Sakaki in her waitress outfit from a desktop wallpaper I found on the internet. Here's what I've done so far:

Does anyone else here do vector traces? If so, let's see 'em! I'll post my full trace when I'm done (which may be 5 years from now :P).
Edit: I'm using Paint Shop Pro 7.0 by JASC, by the way.

Agh, super awesome. I've never really tried anything like that, so I have no input except that I like what I see so far.

Good work, but you may want to fix the ear, at the moment it looks somewhat squary at the tip.
I started a trace some time ago but I never finished it. As you said, it's not hard but it's very, very time-consuming. :o

Here's an update. I've been working at this for a few hours now, and I'm slowly getting close to finishing.
Shiken - October 10, 2004 06:04 PM (GMT)
Wow! Looks really nice ^_^
RazorTM - October 10, 2004 10:19 PM (GMT)
Many hours after starting, I'm finally finished!
Click Here!Tell me if I can improve anything. Suggest some ideas for a background. Any help is appreciated!
I will make this into a wallpaper for the final version.

It would be a really awesome desktop if you took that whole screenshot and vectored the background also. :o
RazorTM - October 11, 2004 12:40 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I was thinking of that too... I'll probably do it later. I need a break first
osakaki - October 11, 2004 03:29 AM (GMT)
Very good work Razor!
I'll definitely stick your wallpapered version in my rotation. :)
Azumanga Daioh Fan - October 12, 2004 12:27 AM (GMT)
Thanks for that sitey. I've been wanting to know how to do this for a LOOONG time.. ^_^
RazorTM - October 12, 2004 01:38 AM (GMT)
Well, here's my attempt at vector tracing the classroom background from the original picture. There isn't a whole lot of detail in the original, so it's not that exciting, but at least it's better than pure white. Unless someone has a different idea for the background, I'm going to consider this the final image ^_^
Edit: Added shading to the kitty on Sakaki's head.

It's placed in such a way that you can erase it very easily or hide it under your windows taskbar. ^_^
Edit: Well, for those of you who aren't able to use an art program, I'll release a version without the watermark

Uh-oh! It's time for another project. I decided to start vector tracing
this wonderful Galaxy Angel image ^_^
Skaro - February 20, 2005 07:18 AM (GMT)
Razor is as God to the good people of the internet.
*hums Ya Samolyot*

RazorTM - February 26, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)
Here's a little update: I've made it through almost all of the most time-consuming part of the process -- the outlines. Next, I will add shading and highlights (which I could've done before the outlines, although it really doesn't matter) and Milfie's eyes. And then I'll have to repeat the entire process twice more to get Chitose and Ranpha  :(

RazorTM - September 10, 2005 03:15 PM (GMT)
My previous Galaxy Angel vector tracing project was lost when my external hard drive crashed, and it would take way too much work to remake it. Here's my latest project, from Pani Poni Dash--Becky!

Exactly. I thought it would look pretty good as a wallpaper ^_^
Now, most of the tracing is done, but I had to stop to go to work... I should be able to finish in an hour or two tonight. Only the eyes, some shading, and minor details remain.
RazorTM - September 11, 2005 03:57 AM (GMT)
Looks like I'm pretty much done :D

(Click for 1600x1200 version)
Take a look and tell me if anything looks weird, especially the eyes.
bakajin - September 11, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)
If thou art done, mightest thou vector trace a Cz-y goodness?
<.<

osakaki - September 11, 2005 04:00 AM (GMT)
The N's in Pani Poni look pixellated, unfortunately, but there's probably nothing to be done about that.
All around otherwise, though, excellent. New desktop get! Thanks, Razor!

If you or I find something really desktopworthy and in need of vector tracing, maybe :D

is there another tutorial? because it says the cookies are being blocked and it wont open the url. Having too much protection can suck sometimes -_-
RazorTM - September 11, 2005 05:02 AM (GMT)
I'm sure there are plenty of vector tracing tutorials now. Just use Google.

I would use my thread revive image here but I can't find it! I will use this instead:
