Title: The Wonderland TeamSpeak Thread
Description: OOS, may return at some point

motorola_otaku - August 24, 2004 09:50 PM (GMT)
To avoid further derailment of the Tutorials thread, post your TeamSpeak questions/gripes/comments here.

To utilize TeamSpeak, you'll need a client, just like IRC. To download one, go to http://www.teamspeak.org and click on "Downloads". Follow their instructions for installation and you should be fine.

Kyle's tutorial for setup after installation can be found here.

Rules:

1.) Use common sense!
If someone you know to be under the age of 16 is in the room, please don't use profanity. Don't play music, noises, or sound effects. If you feel the need to argue with someone, do it elsewhere. You know, common sense. :D

2.) Announce your presence.
When you first join the channel, say "Hello" or something to that effect; that way, you're not mistaken for a lurker or hacker. This is especially important if you're using a different nickname then your Wonderland nickname.
Non-speaking lurkers who have not identified themselves WILL be booted! I'm sorry if this seems rude, but I have no firewall or router protection (the server won't allow it) and I prefer not to take chances. (I do run Norton AV and Internet Security, so no one get any ideas.)

FAQ:

Q:I can hear everyone, but I can't talk. What gives?
A: The most likely cause of this problem lies in your microphone settings. To access this, you need to go to your Volume Settings menu. In Windows, you can get there by double-clicking on the speaker icon in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.

NOTE: I am using Win98SE, so your mileage may vary.

1.) First, make sure your microphone (and speakers, for that matter) are securely plugged into your computer.

2.) Make sure the volume is turned up at least half-way. This may need to be adjusted later, but 50% is a good default setting.

user posted image

Your menu should look something like this. If you don't see the Microphone setting, click on Options, then Properties, and check the box next to Microphone.

2.) Next, go back to Properties, and click the button next to Recording. Again, check the box next to Microphone.

Set the Microphone to halfway, and make sure the box next to Select is checked.

Close it out, and you're done. ^_^

Q:Do I need to register my nickname?
A: No. Our Teamspeak server is closed, and you shouldn't have to worry about anyone stealing your nickname. If someone does, PM me and I'll fix it.

Q:Are there any mods or ops?
A: No. At this time, I don't feel like any are necessary. The way I see it, if you've got enough snap to connect to the internet and join a voice chatroom, then you ought to know how to behave.

Please, folks, don't prove me wrong on this.

Q: Why is everyone's voice breaking up? Why is so-and-so so quiet?
A: This depends on a lot of factors, most of which I have no control over. Your connection speed, my connection speed, and the number of programs you have running can all affect overall voice quality. I'm sorry that I don't have a T1 connection and a dedicated server to run this on, but we make do. -_-

Since the server is hosted on my personal computer, it may not be up all the time. I try to start it up as soon as I get home from work (6:00ish PM Central Time) and let it run 'till I head off to work the next morning (6:30 AM). However, if no one's on when I go to bed, I may shut it down early.

A big thanks to Kyle for his support and advice. Without him, I wouldn't have been able to make it happen. ^_^

And that's about it. Have fun! :xd:

Pinky w. BRAIN - August 25, 2004 05:07 AM (GMT)
Cool. But sadly I have no mic.

Me and moto are talking on TeamSpeak now. :)

Fuyuko - August 27, 2004 02:14 AM (GMT)
Damn you, lack of microphone.

And over-protective parents. -_-

motorola_otaku - August 30, 2004 08:57 PM (GMT)
My internet at home is down for I dunno how long, so no Teamspeak for the time being. -_-

I have a service call scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully they'll be able to get things back up and running.

EDIT: Internet is fixed (new modem). Teamspeak is back online. ^_^

Nagare Akatsuki - September 11, 2004 12:01 AM (GMT)
Cool.

I'd go on if:

a) I owned a microphone

B) I was sure anyone could understand my Glaswegian accent. I could use a French accent to speak but that may complicate matters a tad. :P

Tomo640 - September 11, 2004 01:45 AM (GMT)

I can only hang out late at night, so it looks like only weekends for me now.

Pudduh - September 11, 2004 07:27 PM (GMT)
Hopefully people won't be put off by my mix of Cockney, posh and invernesian XD

hehe Motorola has a cool voice XD

Dirk Gently - September 12, 2004 07:18 PM (GMT)
You both do :P

I guess I've just got a standard US east coast accent... nothing Bostonian though... (Yet  )

That was very interesting, though. I've never tried anything like that on the internet. More people should try it out!

Osaka - September 12, 2004 07:54 PM (GMT)
Teamspeak is fun. Unforunately weekends seem bad for me too. Maybe during the week then? >_<

Just remember: It's no different than talking to someone over the phone, or in a face-to-face group. Be yourself. ^_^

Headphones with a boom mike, then? Keep the window minimized, and when someone asks who you're talking to, you can pad it off as insanity!

:xd:!!

Well, I do have late classes Mon/Wed/Fri so I suppose I don't have to go to bed early every night. :P Cause it is fun.

Pudduh - September 12, 2004 08:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah me and..err I forget who (I am drunk right now) tried to chat after Motorola chickened out and started to download anime onto his PC so we couldn't hear each other properly. *shakes fist* curse you Motorola!

I wasn't downloading anything. I went to bed shortly afer logging off.

The poor audio was the result of a bad uplink connection on my end. My cable provider has more issues than a middle-school goth girl. -_-

Ehe, that was me.

We figured Josh had choked on his cookies since that's the last Pudduh'd heard that you were doing. :P

But yeah, it was choppy as all get out, so it was hard to chat.

Me and moto on here, punks.

Skaro - September 13, 2004 03:38 AM (GMT)
osakaki can point you to where you can hear my melodious voice. If all of you would like to create a little sympathy Mac pack with sound files of your voices, that would be a nice gesture. :P

Work harder, teamspeak-making people!

Pudduh - September 13, 2004 05:17 AM (GMT)
I would join but for the horrible power fluxuations my house is experiencing at the momment thanks to an over sensitive switch box. The box seems to trip *internally* and bypasses the external trip switch. This means between the hours of 7pm and 6:30am the house regulary gets covered in darkness because the tripping -.-
