To make waiting for delivery of the EP go quicker :D

Long-Lasting Love (AVEP)Hmm opinions so far? I think I need to hear the thing before judging, the few seconds sample really isn't enough. But 'Big City Small Matters' is standing out, Leon quite suits it and the arrangment is more like the original music which is good. There are 4 producers for the EP; Mark Lui, Jonathan Lee, Kenneth Chan & Ronald Ng.

really? im finding it hard to shake off 'big city small matters' from miriams version..
Ah_M - June 4, 2005 09:26 AM (GMT)
Well, I didn't enjoy Miriam's version that much...there's more of Leon's vibrato on his version (which I love!) and personally prefer the lower notes too.
And the high notes on "High Standard" -> :2thumbsup:

I'm thinking now, maybe I didn't like the Miriam version cos her voice sorta clashed with the music... that's what I think, cos that's the main diff, Leon's sorta softer and lower as compared to Miriam's version, so that must be the reason. Hehe, I don't know... something like that.

Yeh, it was so "clear"... I don't know how to explain it, but it sounded to natural and soft... :good:
Ah_M - June 4, 2005 10:22 AM (GMT)
Wonder what Miriam fans think of it? Yeah, her low notes were just too low (what did Leon mean that it's better in a female voice??) Oh and I like the extra instruments in Leon's version too.
Mrs Lai - June 4, 2005 10:47 AM (GMT)
Hey, Leon must've made a mistake... hehe, that's why he sang it.
Yeh, was there a flute in Miriam's version? And they added a guitar in Leon's version?
I think Miriam fans should be ok abt it, it is Leon's song afterall. Actually, they should be happy cos Leon sings it so well yet he didn't keep it for himself... hehe.
Mrs Lai - June 4, 2005 12:31 PM (GMT)
I just compared the lyrics of Miriam's version & Leon's version... the way they changed the lyrics is very simple yet very clever... I like it... I think I'll like the Miriam version a little more now... hehe.

Looks good.
I have just ordered mine through YesAsia! :2thumbsup:

It's kinda unfair, not that awards matter but it's a shame that the thing which gathers the most "wall ornaments" from the film is a side product so good on Leon for not completely giving songs away! :P

There's been a few male/female versions of songs nowadays; Mario's Let Me Love You, Mario Winans's I Don't Wanna Know, F.U.R.B., guess L & M are tagging along too hehe...

Ranking so far:
1. Long-Lasting Love - still love it after about 50 listens! Leon's performance is great - emotional, dramatic, ditto for the song itself.
2. Big City Small Matters - as mentioned previously, love Leon's vibrato and the low notes are good! :2thumbsup:
3. Everything Must Go - took a few listens to get into this, possibly because the verse is so long. But when I listened more closely, I found that the verses could've ended up quite monotonous but Leon puts lots of emotion and variety of singing styles into performing them - very captivating. And some new English words! :P
4. High Standards - I think this is a grower, not sure if it's ideal as the next plug though. The high notes are obviously the best thing (they're brilliant!) but I thought it was just average on the first few listens but now I found Leon's performance to be very good again. This song reminds me of the film 'Bullets Of Love' with the haunting female voice, accordian (France) and fisherman Leon in the MV.
5. Ding Heung Fa - Unique - yes, different - yes but I'm not quite enjoying this as much as others. First half, I like but then there are a few notes I'm not too confortable with - might need a few more listens.

I still can't rank them, they're all up there... hehe...
My comments on the songs tho:
Cheung Ching - I've repeated this song ever since it was plugged, that's abt 2 hrs of it everyday for the past X weeks, and I still love it. I think the main part is the bridge and his performance... love it. Probably the best on the album.
Sam Tau Go - I love the mood and feel of this song, I liked this song the most when I previewed the songs at Amusic's site... and I still love it. I think some fans are saying it's sorta lazy cos they don't have a 2nd verse... but hey, I actually like that arrangement, cos when there's a 2nd verse it sorta slows things down, and this chorus was a more "powerful" sort of one. This is prob my favourite on the album. Can't wait to read some sorta translation tho, just to see what the LFW fans are complaining abt. Oh yeh, gotta love that high note. How smooth and natural is it...
Ding Heung Fa - I think this is a flawless song. If short songs or repeating verses is lazy, then this song is definitely the opposite... so many lyrics... hehe. I like the last part when Leon sings "seng fong ba~~~". And, of course we have Justin in the background. My no. 1 and no. 2 idols in the one song. I hope even after Justin becomes a real singer that he cotinues to do backgrounds for Leon...
Dai Sing Siu Si - Hehe, enough comments on this song I think. I love it!!! And my mum agreed that he sings it better then Miriam... hehe. I wouldn't mind some sorta live duet tho. I think it'd be pretty cool.
Everything Must Go - The chorus is fully growing on me. I totally love it. This song could actually be the best song on the CD. Apparently the lyrics are really complete. I think I'll love this song even more once I read the translations. But I love it enough already cos the verses are so cool... it's one those songs that only Leon can sing with such emotions.
Oh, and I really hope all the Leon CD's from now on come in the same size packaging, it looks really neat on my shelf... hehe.
Ok, too many positives, gotta add a negative abt the CD now... hehe. I can't believe they re-used pics from the MV. I know it's Japan and wow they probably don't get seagulls in HK... but... I want a more "model" sorta pic... Anyway, minus 5 points!!!
Overall 95%

Yeah I saw the lyrics take up one whole side lol, very interesting to see if Leon can remember all the lyrics if he performs this song in the future hehe...
Oh yesterday I found myself humming Sum Tau Go and now today it's Ding Heung Fa, not my top songs but sticking in my head ^_^

He'll probably have that LCD on the side like he did with the 903 concert... hehe...

Ok, had a big think abt it during my 1hr20min traffic jam today... my final ranking:
1 - STG - the verses aren't as good as EMG, but the chorus, the feel and the ending are too too good. And I think most the times the feel is the most important for me, that's why I liked BTSH so much as well. And that's probably I like Leon so much, cos he sings with so much "feel".
2 - CC - as I said earlier, the bridge is probably the best part of the album. Not the sort of song I would usually like, but I guess Leon just sang it too well. :good:
3 - EMG - the verses, the chorus, the bridge... all perfect. Just that it doesn't sound as sad as STG. And I really love the way he sings the chorus, gives it a very special melody, kinda hard to explain, but the way he expreses some of the line gives it sorta power that's not in the music... hehe... gosh, I sound weird. :innocent:
4 - DHF - really really love these sorta songs. I wish Leon would have one of these in every album, there's too few of them... This and I love the flower scent but not the flower, One of u one of me, 3 from L&P... there's just not enough of them. I think these are the sorta songs no one can sing as well as Leon, and it also brings out the "smoothness" in Leon's voice...
5 - DSSS - quite surprised I like this song actually, never liked the previous versions I've heard, so it must Leon's "melodic" (is that a word?) voice... :headphone:
Ah_M - June 10, 2005 09:09 AM (GMT)
ooh so now that means a Mark Lui song and a Ronald Ng song as your top favourites?
my copy finally arrived today :lmao: but i'm getting paranoid about handling these card packaging, so easy to get creases in them! :( and the pics; i would've picked more Leon, less sea...
Mrs Lai - June 10, 2005 11:31 AM (GMT)
I creased mine already... when I was trying to put the lyrics back into the cover, I bent it too far back... :realmad:
Yeh, sorta strange that STG is ranked 1, cos if I had to rank the 3 composers it'd be: Mark, Chan Fai Yeung and then Ng Lok Sing. But oh well, it's good to see some sorta change in my rankings... hehe.
Yeh, too much see and birds huh.
