I have been a Leon's fan since 1992. How time flies.
It has been 10 years since. I have watched how Leon
progresses and how he has advanced to be today's superstar
of Asia. It has not been easy for him nor his loyal fans,
and I must say, he has come a long way. I am glad
though to say that he has been a nice guy since the
day I know him. One of his greatest strength -- never
bad-mouths others. This is one good quality in
character that we, as fans, must inherit from him.

I decided to start this newsletter because I know many
of my friends who are fans of Leon can't really read
chinese. I used to search and read Leon's news to them.
But since my move to the States, I know they will lack
Leon's news, thus the birth of this newsletter so that
they could continue to know what's happening in
Leon's world, and many others, who can't read chinese,
hopefully, this newsletter could benefit them a little.

What article could be better written at this time
than his most recent achievement -- the 'Golden Horse
Best Actor Award'. I have never been more proud of
him. Any singing award Leon could get seems to be
expected since he is a singer, but a best actor award
is really hard to come by. One that I would imagine
to be pretty far away -- at least for the next two years.

Golden Horse awards have been viewed as one of the top
Asian awards in the entertaining world, one of the most
prestigious in the movie world in Asia, and any artist
who could grab hold of one of these awards has to be
the 'cream of the crop'. CONGRATULATIONS TO LEON!!!

November 16, 2002 -- Golden Horse Award Ceremony

Leon took the 12.55 pm Hong Kong Dragon flight to Kaoshiung
for the ceremony. Many fans were already at Kai Tak
Airport by the time he arrived. Fans were happy to see Leon
and kept encouraging him. They gave him 'red packet' and
told him that : "he must bring back the award". Leon
smiled and said that if he doesn't win the award back,
fans could make one for him. He was in a very jovial mood
on his departure.

In Kaoshiung, fans were at the airport as early as 12 noon.
There were fans from Taipei, Taichung, and Hong Kong. Though
there were two exits, the banner for 'Golden Horse Award
Ceremony' was placed only at one exit, so Leon's fans gathered
there, with fans and posters, screaming and yelling. It was
really an excited day for every Leon's fans worldwide.

Leon arrived at 2.14 pm but was not out of the security area.
By the time he appeared, there was a huge crowd surrounding
him, and a group of reporters kept pursuing him with
questions like "how he felt about being the hot favorites
in the nominations". Leon smiled without answering and just
simply said : "thank you" and left.

He was escorted to a luxurious tourist bus where the upper level
was for passengers and the lower level for lugguages. Leon
waved to his fans the minute he was at the upper level. Chi
Chuen pulled down the curtains to block from the hot sun, thus
blocking the view of Leon from his fans. Leon was kind enough
to move to the next window to wave to his fans, and, seeing
how happy his fans were, he decided to sit down and looked at
them.

Chui Chi You's flight was delayed for half an hour. Leon waited
patiently, looking and waving to his fans in the meantime.
When Chui finally arrived at 3.00 pm, Leon moved back to his
seat and they left, presumably, for the hotel.

At the ceremony, Leon arrived at around 6.50 pm with Chui. There
was a big crowd. Leon's fans were already there, getting
very excited by the minute.

Leon entered the auditorium, and met Peter Chan. They hugged
and talked, then moved on to their designated seating.
Peter Chan, Jennifer Yuen, and Joe Doyle were seated together
whilst Leon was arranged to sit with Chui at the fourth row.
Leon did not talk much to Chui, but as gentlemanly as he is,
when Chui whispered to the two guys sitting beside her, Leon
took out a packet of tissue to give it to her. Leon sat quietly
at his seat, as he always did in most award presentation. He
left his seat twice during the night.

Leon and Chui presented the 'Best Actress' award, and after
that, as he was accompanying Chui to the backstage, he was
called by the officer-in-charge to return to his seat by the
stage as the next award would be the 'Best Actor' award.

Everybody was getting excited at this moment, especially when
the nominees' names were called, and when the snip of
'Three - Going Home' was shown, but the height of the moment
has yet to come. When Leon's name was announced as the 'Best
Actor', fans screamed and yelled, some cried, some shed tears
of happiness. Yes, Leon did it! He was awarded 'Best Actor'
in the most prestigious Golden Horse Award Ceremony.
Congratulations to Leon, we are so proud of you!!!

Peter Chan and Leon have definitely spark up some
chemistry. When they filmed their first movie
together "Comrades, Almost a Love Story" -- Leon's
acting was first being recognized by the
general public. Though some sour-grapers later
attributed the success of this movie to the presence
of Actress Maggie Cheung, there is no doubt that
Leon's acting was undeniably recognized. He was
offered many good movies like "Eighteen Spring"
and "City of Glass" -- both with indebt acting
opportunities. This has, indirectly, proved that
Leon's acting skills have been recognized.

This year, thanks to Peter Chan again, "Three-Going Home"
is another successful movie. Leon's acting has been
widely approved and praised. There is no Maggie Cheung
to back him up this time, the whole movie was centered
on his acting and he proves he could do it. With this
movie, Leon was crowned 'Best Actor' of the year in the
2002 Golden Horse Award.

Peter Chan is an individualist, just like Leon -- stand
alone on your own two feet. He believes in what he
believes and, most importantly, he believes in Leon.
Peter Chan has definitely brought the best out of Leon!

Leon's value has tripled after he was crowned 'Best
Actor' of the year. Not only was his acting skill
being recognized, he has established himself in the
movie circle as well, and has many good income
opportunites too.

Leon has been trying hard to open up the China
market but as he does not have many good songs or
movies, his popularity was lagging behind Jacky
Cheung and Andy Lau -- the other Heavenly Kings. But,
with his recent award, Leon is slowly being recognized
in China. He is now very much sought-after by commercial
advertisers, and concert organizers.

Just this March, Leon did a commercial for am American
company called "Yu Liang Kong Wu" which has brand names
like Calvin Klein, Armani, DKNY, etc etc. Leon worn over
10 different types of sweaters and brands and every
shop in China has his large poster everywhere. At that
time, his asking price was said to be HK$1.5m. Now, after
the award, the organizer has decided to increase his fee
and planning to invite Leon for another commercial and
to do a series of promotions for them. Do you what is
his increased fee that this American company
is willing to pay him now? -- a clean HK$3m -- double
the amount!

Leon did have a good working relation with them.
He did so many advertising posters that the advertiser
has compiled them into a booklet for promotion purposes.
Unfortunately, this booklet is made available to
their customers only.

for Charity with Community Chest". He is also composing
and singing a new theme song for this special event.

Leon is very multi-talented. When he sets his mind into
doing a job, he does it good and that has always been

Leon Directing the Community Chest Commercial
Ming Pao Daily - December 15, 2002

Leon was directing the "Walk for Charity with Community
Chest" yesterday at Yuen Lang Village. There were over
ten children joining this commercial shooting. The
Governor from the administration department, police forc
deparment, and members of the 18th District will also
join in this very meaningful commercial. However,
Leon will, however, only guest-star in the walking scene.

Leon was very involved in the shooting yesterday -- he
sat on a director's chair on a lifting crane, and was
raised above 10 feet to get a good view. Just minute after
the shooting, a big gigantic tree besides him fell off the
ground. It is a blessing that Leon has left the scene.
There was of course a little commotion but the tree was
being removed with the help and co-operation of all
workers.

Leon was very serious about this commercial. There were
many 'NG's. He had himself taught the children
on how to do the scene perfectly. The most impressive
part of all, as reported, was he had joined the workers
during lunch eating 'lunch boxes'. Leon had revealed
that he wishes to combine the beauty of ancient village
scenery to that of the civilized modern development in the
big city, hoping to bring out a warmth and united feeling.

Shi Qi was interviewed earlier on on whether she has met
a man of her dream. She said she dislikes men who are
hypocrites, and not truthful. When asked, Leon said that
that seems to be the wishes of all women that men be
truthful. In his view, Leon thinks that men or women,
should be truthful to one another.

When asked whether he will be truthful to his girlfriend?
Leon said he has never thought about this, but rightfully,
he should and will. After all, according to Leon, the
world will turn pure if men and women are truthful, and

young artistes backstabbed and criticized one another.
Even Hong Kong newspapers have commented that during
the ruin of the 4 Heavenly Kings where competition is
at its peak, they behaved much better and have more
ethiquette than the young artistes today!

Leon Made Trip To Taipei To Squash Rumours

Leon attained the Golden Horse Best Actor award from the
movie "Three". This movie will be shown in Taiwan soon.
Leon has decided to accompany Peter Chan to Taiwan on
New Year's Day. Eugenia Yuen, however, arrived in Taipei
from Los Angeles on December 29th.

Although the New Year's celebration in the mainland has
increased over the years, our newly-crowned 'Best Actor'
Leon has dropped the idea of his planned visit to Beijing
during this period, to travel to Taiwan for the promotion.

There was an earlier rumor that Leon will not participate
in future promotion campaign for this movie. He has
therefore squashed the rumors with this New Year's trip
to Taiwan.

'Three' has reminisced the scene of 'Comrade, Almost a
Love Story', with the same cast like - Chen Chi Wai,
Director Peter Chan, Cameraman Chris Doyle, and many more
front and backstage workers. All these are the same
workforce six years ago. Leon is definitely more than
willing to help with the promotion campaign.

'Three' was first shown in 4 Taipei cinemas for the
Midnight Gala Premier. Response from the audience was
surprisingly good. There was a 60% occupancy rate during
the midnight show. The box office seems optimistically good,
and for this reason, many theatres who are not able to find
a slot for this movie, has now requested to be included.
This has resulted in 42 theatres in Taiwan playing this
movie which is a rare occasion for Chinese movies these
days. The movie entrepreneurs also made a special request
for this movie to be played from January 3!

Chuen Tu Electronic Press in Beijing has, without
the approval from Sony, printed 11 songs from Leon's
Album 'Sour' into a 'Classic 4 Heavenly King MP3'.

Sony Music Entertainment (Hong Kong) has pressed
charges at the Beijing Court. Yesterday, Sony Music
(HK) has won the case at the First District People's
Court in Beijing. The Court has found Chuen Tu
Electronic Press to have violated the printing
regulation, and has ordered the Press to stop
printing and to cease distribution of the said album.
The Court has also ordered the Press to apologize to
Sony at the 'People's Daily' newspaper, and to make
payment of RMB1.5 million to Sony to cover its monetary
loss and copyright.

Every year, during the Lunar New Year, it was without
fail that Leon's horoscope has been studied and looked
at. This year is the Year of the Goat. Leon was said
to be in good health. Career-wise, it seems that
Leon will progress in movie and backstage work (probably
directing), but singing-wise, it was said to be not
so smooth.

Anyway, Leon has been doing his normal work whatever the
readings are. He survived all these years, and I'm sure
he will survive another good year. Let's wish him all the
best for his career and hope that it will soar to a greater
height!

Community Chest Charity Walk - January 12th, 2003

Leon arrived at the Stadium around 8.30, wearing a
pair of glasses and has put on the Charity Walk T-Shirt
with a green/white jacket. Lots of fans were there
to greet him.

The ceremony started at 9.00 am. Leon approached the stage
with all the other participants. There were also
representatives from the media. Artistes from TVB
used the Community Chest slogan to make up 10 sentences
to ask for support for the commmunity chest. Fung Po Po
was the Asia TV representative and during her speech,
mentioned that red will be their color. But everyone knows
that Leon Family has always been wearing red T-shirts for
such occasion. It would seem that Asia TV has step into the
wrong territory.

Leon was invited on stage to talk about his idea on the
Community Chest advertisement, and the VIPs were invited
on stage at this point to cut the ribbon and the Walk began.

Leon was initially walking briskly but realized that too many
fans were catching up with him. 20 plus police officers
came to stop fans from entering the restricted zone and
tension started building up. After half an hour, Leon left
the scene.

Leon attended the Community Chest Walk yesterday, and was
one of the VIP guest.

Although economic was bad, and American will be starting
war and increasing tax, Leon was very optimistic about
this event. He said as long as there was a goal, nothing
else matters. When asked about his view on tax increases,
Leon commented that he supports anything that will be good
for Hong Kong.

The movie "Three" was doing very well in Taiwan. Leon felt
happy about the news. He will be going to Thailand with Peter
Chan for the Movie Festival. "Three" has been doing very well
in Thailand too.

Leon refused to comment on question asked about the fight
between Chen Kuan Xi and Shu Wen Lerk. Although Jonathan Chan
has commented that during the reign of the Heavenly Kings,
there were strong competition between Leon and Andy Lau,
Leon said that there were in a different environment. He
is not experienced in this and have no comment to make on
what others do or did. Leon humbly said that he has only
gone through one-third in life.

Leon Threw Scarf to Fans in Shanghai

Leon, Andy Hui, Kelly Chen, Gigi Leung and Miriam Yeung
were in Shanghai on Sunday to raise funds for the Children
of China Cancer Funds. When Leon saw that fans' mood was
so high, he took off his scarf, said to worth HKD 4,000
and threw it to fans, causing a commotion off stage.
His image director was worried when he saw what Leon did
because of its value. Leon, on the other hand, commented
that as long as everybody is happy, it doesn't matter.

At an interview, Leon divulged that Andy Hui had lost his
luggage and thus, has no costumes for the concert. On this
subject, Leon lamented that he himself has such experience
once when he was on an overseas stint. He was worried at
that time that there was no time for him to replenish his
stage costumes in time for the concert, but luckily, the
luggage was found a the last moment.

When asked about his new movie with Sammi Cheng - whether
he is worried that there will be rumors about any possible
romance, Leon commented that he has no control over such
rumours as it was the tactics used by the media for better
sales.

Though there has always been rumored that Leon's popularity
has taken a dip in recent years, it was not the case in
yesterday's promotion.

Leon was arranged to seat beside Lu Ping, the ex-Olympic
Organiser. As compared to other artistes who attended the
occasion yesterday, Leon's status as a 'Heavenly King'
has not been affected.

Leon, Andy Hui, Kelly Chen, Yang Chiang Hwa and Gigi Leong
attended the 'Charity Show for the Memory of 110 Anniversary
Children of China Cancer Fund) yesterday to help in raising
funds for the Cancer Fund for Children of China.

Leon was being seated next to Lu Ping, and was seen to have
a nice conversation with him. When asked by reporters when
their conversation was about, Leon said that Lu Ping
commented that when he speaks Mandarin, he doesn't have
the Beijing accent. Leon said that he came to Hong Kong
since young, and admitted that his Beijing accent
has long been gone. Lu Ping remembered that Gigi Leung
was once in Leon's MTV and asked him how is it that Gigi
Leung has grown so tall. Leon replied that Gigi has always
been a tall lady.

At the venue, all the artistes were asked what were they most
afraid of when young. Leon said he was afraid that he could
not be promoted to a higher class. When Andy Hui was asked,
Leon replied on his behalf that he was afraid of cockroaches.
Leon was praised for being a 'big brother' taking care of the
other 4 younger artistes.

A question was asked of all on how they view charity.
Leon replied on all's behalf that some artistes had to rush
there from Japan for charity, and said that to be able to
do charity work is a rare opportunity and a blessing.

Wishing all a Very Happy Valentine's Day!

I don't know how many of you actually oppose to the
relationship between Leon and Shu Qi (if there is
actually any). I personally do not believe there
is such a relationship, but even if it really happens
to be, I would think Leon is old enough to gauge for
himself. After all, he is of marriagable age, and
he could be open-minded about her past. What is
most important is he is happy. Like his manager, we
could not control his private life but could only
wish him all the best.

Leon seen with Shu Qi in Tokyo

This Chinese festival, there were many artistes
who chose to travel to Japan for holidays - Tony Leung
and Carina Lau is one couple. The other is Alex To and
Chou Wen Chi together with her sister Chou Li Chi.
Leon and Shu Qi, it seems, had also gone to Tokyo for
holiday and was seen by many to be holding hands walking
in the busy streets of Tokyo.

There was a report from Taiwan earlier on that Shu Qi
was seen to be with a rich Shanghainese businessman
named Long in Las Vegas Casino. The couple seemed to be
very close and there was then anticipation that Leon
had parted with her.

Though rumors have been going on about Leon and Shu Qi
- the on and off relationship - this trip seems to prove
that both are indeed deeply in love and can't seem to part
ways. They looked happy, chatting, and were seen at the
Ginza Shopping Center.

Leon's manager, Joe Chan, was asked about their relationship,
but Joe replied that during the Chinese festive season,
everybody was on vacation. He therefore did not know Leon's
whereabout and would not interfere in his personal life.

Leon Enjoys Simple Thing in Life

During the charity concert that Leon attended in Shanghai
earlier on, though Leon had a very busy schedule, he would
rather sacrifice lunch break to go shopping with his
colleagues. He enjoys the the famous Shanghainese steamed
pau (dumpling). What excites Leon most was the sudden
fall of snow.

He wanted to visit the local temple, but was stopped by
co-workers for fear of causing a commotion if he enters one.
Leon had no choice but to look from outside and with his own
camera, he took some pictures. But he was finally being
spotted by tourists, and was asked to take some photos with
them, and authographs. Leon was in high spirit, so he
willingly agreed.

Quit from Mahjong Game

Leon just loves the Lunar New Year atmostphere, but he was
not really interested in playing mahjong at all. He admitted
that he once played a silly game, and became a joker to his
friends. Compared the Lunar New Year celebrations in
China, Leon admitted that the celebrations held in Hong Kong
could not be compared.

LEON REPEATS: SHU QI IS NOT MY GIRLFRIEND!

The relationship between Leon and Shu Qi is as misty as
the thick fog. There were many rumors circulating -
the on-off relationship, and just recently, both were
seen in Tokyo together. There were reports that Leon
had ordered two seven-passengers van value at HKD 430,000
each - one of which was for Shu Qi as Valentine's Day
present.

Leon responded seriously to the report denying Shu Qi's
status as his girlfriend. He attended the UNICEF event
yesterday as "Youth Ambassador" for UNICEF. When asked
about the reported rumors, Leon clarified "I did bought
a new van, but I've only ordered one and not two. It was
a trade-in for my old van" Leon did express confusion
over the reported rumors about him giving 'his girlfriend'
any such gift, and repeated seriously that Shu Qi is not
his girlfriend, but said they are just good friends. He
jokingly said that if he were to give any gifts to his
'girlfriend', it would not be so cheap as to give a
seven-passenger vehicle. He said he would at least give
a helicopter but must be those safe enough not to hurt
anyone, especially the owner. He also stressed that the
value of the new vehicle is not as reported, but only
cost HKD 330,000. Furthermore, he said, it's a trade-in,
so he needs only spent less than HKD 100,000. He asked

VALENTINE ALONE AT HOME

When asked how did he spend his Valentine's Day, Leon
said he spent it at home as he has no one to spend his
Valentine's Day with. He said to go out alone on
Valentine's Day is very embarrassing, so he would
rather spend it at home, sleep early to get enough
rest. However, he wishes all who are spending Valentine's
Day a "Very Happy Valentine".

Yesterday, he took pictures with over 100 fans who
donated HKD1,000 to charity. As usual, fans will
give him 'red packet', and the scene was rather chaotic
with Leon's presence.

Leon's Heavily Guarded 'Community Chest Walk'
Started Yesterday
--Ming Pao, March 3, 2003

Leon, together with Governor Tung Chee Hwa, opened the
'Community Chest Walk' ceremony yesterday with a large
group of participants.

Leon has a large group of fans participating in this
Walk, and most noticeably was 'mummy' grade fans. Some
grannies were seen joining the walk was well. As there
were many reporters trying to take photos, and together
with the many hundreds of fans trying to catch a glimpse
of Leon, the scene was very chaotic. Leon has no choice
but to turn back at mid-point, resulting in many fans
following suit.

Immediately after the walk, Leon flown to Xin Jian as
'Unicef Youth Ambassador' to gauge the earthquake situation
there. Because of a last-minute notice, Leon has no time
to be prepared, and no innoculation was taken, Leon took
the risk and went ahead to the disaster scene without any
preventive vaccination. When asked if he was worried,
Leon's reply was there was no need to worry as everything
was left to fate. If anything should happen, it will happen.

Leon's Mission Trip to Xin Jiang

Leon has always known to be a very willing person for
charity. Just yesterday, he, as the 'UNICEF' Youth Ambassador,
went to Xin Jiang to aid the recent earthquake situation
there. He brought along HKD 2 million raised charity funds
raised, warm clothings, and some needy stuff for the
earthquake victims who are suffering under minus 3 degree
weather temperature.

When asked whether he is worried about the aftermath of the
earthquake, Leon said there was nothing to worry about as
everything is fated - what will happen will happen.

Because of the urgency and last-minute notice that he
received, he has to travel light bringing only water and a
thick clothing with him. There was no time for other
preparation or vaccination. He had to rush through two days'
of commercial work for this trip and said that as
representative of UNICEF, if he is not willing to make the
trip, who else would? The most important thing is he could
help someone in need.

A funny incident happened during the 'Community Chest Walk'
though - a guy impersonated himself as a reporter, took
photos of Leon, and started selling at the scene!

Leon Safe in XinJiang

Leon was in XinJiang as the 'UNICEF Youth Ambassador' to
help with the victims of the earthquake. At one stage, he
had lost contact with his manager, Joe Chan, and everybody
was worried.

But his manager has since reported that Leon had managed
to contact him and said that he is doing well. The delay
in contact was due to a heavy snow storm and work progress
was delayed. Everything is back to normal now, and Leon's
return date will be as planned.

Leon Endured Much Sufferings Sending 'Warmth' to
the Earthquake Victims in XinJiang

As international 'Youth Ambassador' of UNICEF, Leon
encountered a 5.2 scale earthquake when delivering aids
to the victims of XinJiang. There was a rumors that Leon's
life was in danger at one stage. Just yesterday, the
spokesman for UNICEF's 'Children Charity Fund' said that
during one of the trips delivering aids, the roads were rocky
and unstable. When the earthquake occurred, Leon and his
co-workers were not aware and did not realize that there was
an earthquake due to the rocky road condition. Though Leon
realized that he had encountered the earthquake during his
trip to the affected area after that, it does not deter his
mood for wanting to go and help the victims. He continued
to visit the camp and went to the schools to visit the
children as well. Besides experiencing the earthquake, there
were also heavy snowing. Leon braved the snow to visit the
children, and also prepared some snacks himself to give to
the children.

The spokesman for UNICEF divulged that Leon had donated
HKD 2 million for the earthquake victims and Leon had urged
the public to send their donations to "UNICEF Children
Friendship Club'. During the two nights TVB programs
"Entertainment Hunt" to be aired on March 11th and March 12th,
there will be snips of Leon's visit to XinJiang.

Leon Experienced Earthquake

Leon has plans to visit XinJiang in August this year, but
because of the recent earthquake, he made a trip there much
earlier than anticipated. XinJiang experienced a 6.8 scale
earthquake last month. As a result, Leon, together with
UNICEF organizers, had to make a trip on March 2nd on an
urgent basis to deliver aids to the earthquake victims.
It was reported that his August trip will, however, proceed
as planned.

Leon has brought along with him HKD2 million donation funds
and HKD100,000 worth of aid items for this trip to help in
the emergency needs. The weather was bad during the trip,
very testing for Leon. Temperature was a minus 8 degree and
he had also experienced a Grade 2 earthquake. It's a blessing
that everybody is unhurt.

At the scene, Leon saw many infrastructures - houses,
schools, hospitals - being destroyed. He personally visited
the affected children and heard from their own little mouth
the experience they went through. When they talked about
the loss of their family members, and the fear they are
facing ahead of them, Leon could deeply understand how the
little ones felt so helpless at such young age. Leon knows
all these experiences will affect their growth one way or
another. He has therefore urged the general public to
actively participate in the donation process to help these
young souls recover from their bad experience as soon as
possible.

just about a week away. I am all excited that
Leon will emerge the winner again though not having
high hope since we all know how bias the votes

Like the recent incident where Actress Shi from the mainland was trying to show her affection by holding his hands at a praying ceremony, Leon avoided her so as not to cause any misunderstanding. Though he did cause her some embarrassement, but the advantageous of that action far outweighs the problem that will arise if he were to be seen holding her hands. Can you imagine what will happen if he is too embarrassed to let go his hand? Though under the scrutiny of almost 60 reporters, Leon did what he needs to do. Bravo, Leon!

No SARS Precautionary Measures For Leon When In Contact With Fan

When Leon attended the praying ceremony for the upcoming movie "Duo Heroes", there were already scores of fans and reporters at the scene. The movie company has to cordon off the area for fear of uncontrolled situation. The understanding fans then proceed to a nearby overhead bridge to try to catch a glimpse of their idol, Leon.

When Leon appeared, fans went forward to greet him and to deliver their presents. Leon, on the other hand, seemed unperturbed by the recent scare of 'SARS'. Though he had no mask or gloves on, he did not try to avoid his fans. Instead, he shook hands with them and with his co-workers.

Asked about the recent unhappy events happening in the entertainment circle, Leon said he would be lying if he said he is not at all disturbed by the happenings. He could only hoped that these unhappy events would be over soon, and everyone could then move on with their lives.

Leon Urged Everyone To Stay Cool When Dealing With The Recent Threat

Well-known millionairess Pao Yong Ching died recently after battling with cancer. Miss Pao had been very active in charity activities was well-applaud for beng extremely generous. She created a legend in 1991 when she donated a whopping HKD500,000 for Leon to sing "Sorry, I love you" at the 'Wah Tung Flood Fundraising' concert. Though Leon is not very familiar with her, he said that Miss Pao has always been an exemplary citizen and that her death is a great loss to Hong Kong. Asked whether he will attend the visitation for Miss Pao, Leon said he had no definite plans yet.

Concerning the recent SARS scare, Leon urged everyone to stay cool for 3 days instead of living day-to-day.

For the movie "Duo Heroes", Leon was arranged to meet Professor Yang, the well-known Psychologist. In the movie, Leon played as a hypnosis specialist. Though he has not tried this treatment yet, Leon said he already believes that hypnosis does exist.

One of the Junior Heavenly Queens from the mainland, Shi Jing Lei, will be co-starring with Leon as a married couple. Shi has always praised Leon for being an easy-going person and is full of admiration for him. It was reported that during the praying ceremony, she deliberately stood besides Leon and was seen to try to hold his hands. Leon, however, avoided her, causing some embarrassment to her.

Director Chen Mu Shen has said that the movie should have been shot in the mainland if not for SARS. However, the permit to close some of the roads in Hong Kong during shooting, has been approved with no hassle.

First, my apologies for the delay in this
newsletter. I am experiencing problems with
my mail.com. But as the saying goes: "Late is
better than never", so here is the newsletter
for this June 1st.

Leon has a good movie offer from well-known
director Zhang Yi Mou "Beauty Grass". Though
the designated co-star is Shu Qi, I believe
that though some fans do not like her, it is
for the best interest of Leon that he accepts
this movie. After all, Zhang is a good director
and his movie offer does not come very often.
Whilst we like and support Leon, I hope fans
will be sensitive enough not to hamper his
movie career by passing off such a good movie
opportunity. Leon and Shu Qi will be in the same movie, not getting married, so why the outcry?

Leon Visited SARS Patient

Leon has asked that citizens in Hong Kong should have a will to fight against diseases.  He visited a little SARS patient at Sha Tin Kindergarten. She is 6 years old and was discovered to be infected with SARS virus on March 24th.  She is lucky that after 20 days' hospitalization, she was discharged and returned to school on May 19th.  Leon made a special trip to visit her and had some filmlets taken.  He talked to her about her condition. Her parents and siblings were also present.

Leon made this trip as representative of the Comunity Chest to give the little girl a moral boost.  He was amazed at the courage of this girl and finds her very cute and adorable.

LEON IS A BIG CONSUMER AT 'AMOY GARDEN'

Leon attended the Fund Raising Show at Amoy Garden on June 1st.  He encouraged citizens to shop at this area and revealed that he is one of the big consumer there.  He said that he has been in this area since young -- schooling, during soccer training activities etc. 
 
He also stated that his producer is also staying in this area, so he has been a consumer for this area and am sure no one could beat him on his spending spree in this area.
 
Leon also reminded everyone not to neglect the precaution against SARS.  The government is now cleaning up the city and he has great confidence that the great clean-up will be a success.  He mischievously admitted that he was once a litterbug during his younger days. When asked if he has been caught before, Leon said he was lucky to get off lightly with a warning.
 
Asked about George Lam's condition, Leon said he hoped George will recover soon.  He said George might not have enough time for rehearsal and might have also sang his heart out that resulted in the accident.  Leon hoped that during his concert, his producer will caution him against all dangerous spots.

Leon Co-Star with Faye Wong

It was reported that Leon has personally invited Faye Wong to co-star in his latest movie "Big City" but Leon denied the rumors at the radio station yesterday. He said that the director of the film has decided much earlier for Faye Wong to be the female lead of this movie.

Leon, however, did not deny that he has contacted Faye Wong and added that "her managing company has an investment in this movie". He added that it is not true that Faye Wong has reduced her fee for this movie. Leon said Faye Wong has seldom participated in movie role and her fee is definitely very high.

When asked about Nicholas Tse's rumored affair with Anita Mui, Leon said that has nothing to do with him and he is not commenting. Asked if this will affect Faye Wong's performance in the new movie, Leon replied that "we are professionals and we do our job professionally".

Leon will be partnering Andy Lau in the upcoming Medical Association Concert. When told that Andy has planned to do an opera with him, Leon was surprised and said he will leave the arrangment to the organizer.

Leon Co-Partner with Faye Wong in New Movie after a lapse of 10 years

Leon and Faye Wong has always been viewed as a very competitive pair. Furthermore, they are both from Beijing and it was rumored that both had gotten along very well in the TV drama serial "The Legendary Ranger". Leon has always wished that he could partner with Faye Wong again in a movie. Now, his dream has materialized. His managing company has invested in this new romance movie and hopefully, both will find a niche in this movie and some wonders if they will also find a niche in their personal lives.

Faye Wong returned to Hong Kong yesterday and went straight to Leon's managing company "Paciwood Entertainment" to discuss details for the movie. When asked if Leon is the director of this movie, Joe Chan said that it was a 'musketeer' effort -- he, Leon and director Yueh Wei Xin. Three of them have planned everything from storyline to details. He said it was a joint effort by the trio.

The storyline is very light and hearty - definitely not a sad romance story. He refused to divulge if there will be any kissing scene planned for both Leon and Faye Wong.

Andy and Leon's Joint Effort at 'Medical' Show

Over 30 celebrities, 14 DJs, and government officials were at this medical show dedicated to the outstanding and courageous work performed by the medical personnel during the recent SARS breakout.

Organized by TVB and HK Radio Station at the Coliseum, this event was attended by many government officials and TVB personnel were also present at this very meaningful night. Celebrities present were Leon, Andy Lau, Alan Tam, Hacken Lee, Aaron Kwok, Kelly Chen, Jacky Cheung, Nicholas Tze, and Gigi Leung.

The highlights of the night has to be the song "A little candlenight" sung by both Leon and Andy. After the song, both gave each other a friendly hug, squashing rumors that both were at loggerheads.

Rumors that Leon's and Andy's Friendship are only on the surface

There was rumors that Leon and Andy are both highly skilled in concealing their bad feelings for each other at the recent event. It was reported that though both appeared friendly but had actually not acknowledged one another throughout the night.

To this, Andy Lau clarified that there were no reporters at the scene and wonder how this news got around. He recalled that on the rehearsal day, he had forgotten to bring along his lyrics, and Leon had kindly shared his with him. It was reported that Leon is in a joyous mood in
Shanghai doing location filming for his newly-
investment film "Big City" with Faye Wong.

Leon was seen by reporters in the mainland one
night filming in a restaurant. The streets were
cordoned off. When reporters tried to take
pictures, they were stopped by the security
guards on duty as Leon is not ready to divulge
any pictures or storyline of the new movie yet.
There were some commotion at the scene but
the reporters finally in a puff.

Leon was said to be in a very happy mood and
has been dining with Faye Wong, oblivious to

Heroic Duo

All cinemas in China and Hong Kong have joined force
show Leon's new movie "Heroic Duo". Wah Xie Movie
Distributor has arranged with China, Hong Kong and
S E Asia Entertainment organizations to jointly
show the much talk-about movie "Heroic Duo" together.

This movie was said to have a huge production fee of
$30 million -- this is the second huge investment movie
after 'Internal Affairs'.

The movie was being previewed by 35 cine-organizations --
all agreed simultaneously that this is the best movie
of the year in view of its props and storyline. This
movie, besides its huge popular casts, has been the
center of attraction even before it is being shown. This
is scheduled for a premier on July 28th over 100 cinemas
in 18 districts at the strike of midnight and a collective
effort has been made to prevent being 'pirated'.

The preview was so well-received by all who have viewed
this movie. Leon and the casts will be in Beijing on
July 25 for promotion activities. Many other distributors
in China and other parts of SE Asia have requested for
their presence to promote this movie. Unfortunately, most
especially Leon, has had tight schedules and unlikely are
able to do more promotions than planned.

profits for the production company.
This movie has a production fee of $30 million but a
USA's 'Archlight' Film Distributor has already
purchased the right for this movie. This movie
will also be showed in Europe and USA.

Reports that a preview held on July 18th has been
so well-applaused. Critics were so good that it
was viewed as one of the best movie of the year
and was urged to be nominated for Best Movie
and Best Actors awards.

Lee is now rushing through a movie in Korea herself,
but since it was a personal invitation from Leon
and her part was really small, she accepted the

to find time off her busy schedule to attend the
premiere for this movie.

Premiere for 'Heroic Duo' Cashed in $500,000

point for box-office collection. For a midnight
show, it would be even worse off. However,
'Heroic Duo' was chosen to be shown in this
manner prove the confidence the distributors
have on this movie.

The premiere shown on Monday, July 28th, by 18 organizations with
almost 100 cinemas has already cashed in more than $500,000. This was said to be more than the best premiere shown last year

Leon and Chow Yuen Fat Given Prestigious
Awards in 'Return to China' Presentation

At the anniversary of the "Return to China', recognitions were given to those who make contributions to society.

This year, Leon and Chow Yuen Fat made it to the list for most contributions. Chow was awarded "Silver Celebrity Award" whilst Leon got into the 'Most Honorable Award' category.

Leon was in Shenzhen doing a location shotting for an advertisement when he received news of his achievement. Undoubtedly, he was very happy to hear about the news and said that he is only doing his job. He stressed that if everybody could just contribute a little to society, this world will be a much better place to live.

Leon was awarded for his active participation to UNICEF Fund Raising campaign and his effort at the community chest all these years.

Joe Chan, his manager, was happy to learn about his achievement. He said that Leon has made a promise many years back to do charity work for the sake of his father who was diagnosed with cancer at that time. From then on, Leon has played a major role in the charity work, and even made a personal trip to Xinjian recently to visit the earthquake victims there. Leon is amongst 75 citizens who has made it to this award this year. Now that his effort has been recognized, Joe feels very happy for him.

Leon Dine with Faye Wong in Shanghai

Leon is in Shanghai now doing location filming for his new movie "Big City Trivial Matter" with Faye Wong. Leon is a partial boss for
this movie and has a one-third part in directing this movie. He has invited Faye
Wong to be his co-star. It was rumored that ShuQi was angry with Leon for not being invited
to star in this first movie that he has produced and invested. To vent her anger, she
is said to be busy knitting?!

Leon is obviously very excited and happy about his new venture. Though it was reported that Faye Wong has stayed in a different hotel from the crew to avoid any uninvited rumours aout their 'romance', Leon has been dining with her most nights. Both Leon and Faye Wong have taken time off their busy schedule in Shanghai -- Leon will be promoting his new movie with Ekin Cheng "Duo Heroes" and Faye Wong will be returning to Beijing for recording.

The director commented that Faye Wong is a very intelligent lady who knows what to do when being told only for the first time. Leon, on the other hand, is already an expert as he is the producer of this movie and already knows his role very well. Both were seen discussing their roles together often and were very indulged in the movie.

Leon and Faye Wong had acted in a TVB Series "The Legendary Ranger" 10 years ago, and this is their first movie together.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW : LEON'S INNER CIRCLE

Below is a translation of an exclusive interview
with Leon done by Ming Pao on August 1st, 2003:

Probably because Leon nowadays doesn't bother about
how people view him, but on 'how you look at Leon'
point of view doing this exclusive interview, the
reporter discovered that the Leon of today is a
much more open-minded and straightforward person.
Leon agreed on this interview, and unlike others,
he doesn't ask what questions will be fired at him,
nor did he caution the reporter on what sensitve
issues to avoid. He left the interview to take its
natural course. An example was when you asked
about his love life, he would say: "From historic
experience, which couple who revealed their relationship
has a good ending? Answer -- 1:99"

When asked again about how others view him and Andy Lau
as a very 'competible' pair from music to movies,
Leon's reply was : "If I am a reporter, probably I
would use these two names as comparison too, but as
long as you have the right attitude for competition,
there should be no harm. I do not have a lock inside me,
just principles". We should understand that
we've scolded Leon for being 'stupid' the day he
announced that he would not be receiving any music
awards in Hong Kong, now we know that those
over-anxious people are just over-reacting because
Leon has long laid down a plan for himself -- he is
the brainest of all artistes. From this interview,
you could look at the different angles of Leon.

Leon played a very intelligent and cool hypnotist in
the movie "Heroes Duo". Before filming, he has the
opportunity to meet up with a professional hypnotist
to understand what hypnotism is all about. After
learning the basic skill, who would Leon like to
reveal the truth to? Leon replied laughingly :
"Hypnotism is a very interesting skill - it not
only brings out the truth from you, it could also
be used to understand your inner feelings - find
the lost path, use to forget about something
unpleasant, or could even use different angles to
look at things. Now that I understand the basic skill
of it, I could use it to look at things differently
in a more lighter way. Examples are when someone said something that I
would feel is against me, now I would use this skill to brush these
thoughts off my mind, and could also use it to organize my words in a such
a way that when I said something, others could understand me
better."

Afraid to expose his inner feelings:

When asked if he has tried hypnotism, Leon shook his head and said :
"No, I have no courage to try it".

"Was it because you didn't want your inner feelings to be exposed?"

Leon thought for a while and said : "Probably. Artistes should always
protect themselves, though there might not be anything serious, but
it's always good to have some privacy. There is a step in hypnotism where
you could express your feeling freely. I am afterall a human, I do not
want to say anything crude or vulgar when I am at that stage, not very
nice."

What else would Leon like to protect?

After some thoughts, Leon said : "I don't know, actually I do not have
any secrets. I feel that if there is trust, there will be confidence.
How much can something hurt you depend on how you look at it. If you
feel that there is no value in certain things, there should be no harm
done."

Leon has always given the impression that love life is his biggest
privacy. No matter how it was reported on his on-off affair with Shu Qi,
his interest for Faye Wong, Leon has never openly talked about it -
could this be his biggest secret?

Leon said: "Love? There is no need to talk about it. From experience,
once that is made known to the media -- even if there is 7 good
reporters out of 10, the other 3 would write what they fancy in their
articles, that would be enough to jeopardize a relationship after a while".

The reporter quickly give a good example of Lau Ching Wan and Kuo Oi
Ming. Leon agreed but emphasized that this is only 1:99.

Never want to admit his relationship with Shu Qi, was it because he
doesn't want to be one of the 1:99?

Leon smiled and said: "Know me for so many years, you should know my
attitude. I don't have to say much, you know what kind of a person I am.
I don't even have to say anything, you guys know what I am doing.
Sometimes, I understand that you just want me to admit on certain things,
but you know I will never do that, so just let things rest.."

LEON IS MORE OPEN-MINDED AND AWAITING TO CO-STAR WITH ANDY LAU

There were organizers who had asked Leon to do an October concert this
year, but he rejected flatly, citing 'not ready' as his reason. He
said unless there are five 'Leons', otherwise it's impossible for him to
do a concert this year as he is too busy and not ready. He doesn't want
to have a concert for the sake of having one. He does not want to meet
his fans when he is not ready, it would not be fair to his fans.

Leon and Andy have always been used to compare -- from music to movies,
from the days of 'Four Heavenly Kings' to today's "Internal Affairs
III". Leon doesn't bother about the comparison nowadays, it doesn't
bother him any more. On the contrary, Leon said : "it's a good thing to
compare. No matter what others said or write, it's their point of view.
I know what I am doing. Even if I am being backstabbed, as long as you
are ready to accept that, accept others, understand that movie is
teamwork, as long as working together under healthy competition, be
open-minded, don't bother about who has a more important role". Leon
emphasized that he doesn't have a 'lock' in him, just principles.

Not Working for the sake of Money:

Because of this principle, Leon has rejected an offer -- he has not had
a concert for the last two years, though there were offers knocking on
his door, he has rejected it. Leon explained : "That is Leon's
attitude -- I can't meet my fans when I am not ready. It's because of this
principle and attitude that during the SARS period, I've asked Mark Lui
not to compose any songs. Though he might have the spirit to do it, I
do not have the mood to do the recording. Though that doesn't mean
that I could not do a good song, but the feeling and enthusiam will not be
there."

Although he is at his peak, he is still looking for change, looking for
improvements, looking for new ideas. That is one of the reason why
Leon's fans have been with him for all these years. Leon laughed and said
"Human beings have to keep improving, or it will be a serious matter.

But whether it is self-motivated, or being forced to, it is a difficult
task to achieve, that is why everybody who is working is supportive and
that helps a lot".

Was it because he no longer vie for any music awards that he could view
the whole music scenario on a third-party viewpoint?

Leon said that from day 1 in this circle, he is already a third-party.
Before, he said, he was the party involved and when you are involved,
you need to follow the rules of the game.

Would he feel much relief now that he has no contract?

Leon said that relief is only physologically. Once you are in the
game, you have to follow the rules, you will still have to shoulder the
burden.

Leon has numerous successful and unforgetable movies like "Comrades,
Almost a Love Story", "City of Glass", and the recent 'Three-Going Home"
where he achieved the Best Actor Award. Will be be considering working
backstage now?

Leon said: "When I just started with Asia TV, I did think about that --
if I am not successful as an actor, I will be an assistant director and
work myself up from there. But today, I am able to double up even as a
helper when I am not acting. I can differentiate now and that is Leon.

Leon to star in movie with Maggie Cheung

News was received yesterday that the casts for the new movie ?Song of
Misery? has now been decided. Although the author of this friction,
Wang An Yi, preferred to have Ng to act as Wang Ji Yau, but director Kuan
Jin Pern has chosen Hong Kong International Star, Maggie Cheung
instead. Leon has been named to act in the role of ?Mr. Chen?.

The author, Wang An Yi, has chosen Jacelyn Ng for her girl-next-door
image which is very suitable for the role. However, the role requires
her to act from age 17 to 57 which requires a great deal of experience.
Director Kuan, however decided on Maggie because of her acting prowess
and her international fame. Wang has no objection to pairing her off
with Leon as they were thought to be very compatible and Leon, with his
gentle charisma and not over-reacting posture, was thought to be very
close to the role of ?Mr. Chen?.

LEON PUT ON 10 LBS FOR THE SAKE OF FILMING ?HEROES DUO?

Leon and Ekin Cheng have both received rave reviews on their roles in
?Heroic Duo?. Though the Hong Kong box office has not matched up to
China?s and the South East Asia, Leon was interviewed by Asia Times. Read

Leon left for Shanghai to continue his work on ?Big City Trivial
Matter?. When asked about the special feature in Times Asia, Leon laughingly
commented that ?their subjects were very broad?.

When asked over the long-distance interview by Far Eastern News about
his successful role in ?Heroic Duo?, Leon attributed all credits to the
director. At times of the interview, because of the humid weather and
the airconditioning, Leon suffered a relapse of his allergies.

Leon disclosed that he has put on 10 lbs for this movie as he felt that
one should put on weight when in jail. He ate 4 to 5 bowls of rice
every dinner and after filming, he went on a fast diet to reduce the 10
lbs. He hopes the sacrifice will give audience a whole new feeling.
