Title: How do you take your skellies
Maiku - October 19, 2003 08:33 AM (GMT)
Just wondering what you would take because, say you had 1 pt to spend on each skelly then you would have the choice of Spears or +1 to save and if its worth it to speand another point and get the whole lot.

I take mine with bows and a hand weapon.
less save but who cares. THEY'RE SKELLIES

For combat just take spears and shields

Well if you do take spears + Shields it still wont help trying to hurt most things and if you take the Light Armour + Shield then they can survive a bit longer until your chariots or horsemen flank them.

spear sheilds and light armour for me. I need the extra attacks for dealing with those bloody saurus.
But i have bows on my other unit.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone would pay points for more WS2 S3 attacks, especially when it comes at the cost of reduced armour save. I don't see skeletons as a game winning-or even combat winning-unit. They're in the list to hold up the enemy until your cav/giant/chariots etc. can hit the enemy unit in the flank and deal some wounds.

Oh no no.
They are pretty decent in combat with spears light armour and sheilds. I was characged by some savage orcs. and won the combat! they fled.
They are a nice little unit who can compete with most crap infantry blocks. And against deadly units (e.g suarus) you need the armour and spears to minimise the ammount they win by and therefore increase ythe length of time the unit will hand around for.

That just doesn't strike me as the kind of thing that would happen often. Hitting on 4's and wounding on 5's, even with 11 attacks is only about 2 wounds, and the frenzied orcs should deal more than that, further limiting what you can do.
I really wouldn't expect skellies to accomplish anything against anything, especially T4, so I'll take the extra point of armour save every time.
