Title: Bad News
Description: ...
Luc_Arkhame - January 15, 2007 05:12 PM (GMT)
We regret to inform you that we will not be able to recover additional
data from Server 1's failed hard drive. We understand that this news
comes as a surprise, as it was a shock to us as well.
When the hard drive failed, we began working with the datacenter that
provides our servers to determine the cause. Once it was determined
that it was more than a simple failure we made the decision to have
them remove the hard drive and ship it to one of the top data recovery
firms in the country. Based on all signs at this point we felt that a full recovery of
missing data was likely.
The data recovery company was able to access the data on
the hard drive they received from the datacenter. However, based on
the data they recovered, it soon became clear to us that the hard
drive was not ours.
Over the last several weeks, we have come to understand that the wrong
hard drive was sent by the datacenter. Once we informed them of their
error they began to search for our hard drive. Unfortunately due to
the limited inventory information they keep on this type of hardware,
they were unable to locate the drive. We have recently been informed
that they believe that it was mistakenly returned to a manufacturer.
Obviously this is not the news you had hoped to hear. We understand
that for many of you and your members, the information lost is
irreplaceable.
As you are our among oldest users, we truly regret the
inconveniences this incident has caused you and your members. As a
staff, we would like to thank you for your continued support. If you
have any questions please open a support ticket with the title "Server 1
Question" and our staff will route it directly to our management team.
Sincerely,
Brandon Kopetzky and the InvisionFree.com Management Team

Mmmm ...
On the bright side, can we declare this a day of mourning and have an excuse to get drunk?
@ztech - January 15, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
:(
I saw it coming, but still, it's pretty sad.
It's nice that they tell us what happened. When I receive news like that, I always like when they come with a good explanation.
Well... We can of course mourn the posts we've lost and get drunk, but the thing we need the most is someone to accuse and punish. Any idea?
LordChilipepa - January 15, 2007 09:13 PM (GMT)
'Good explanation'?
"We asked for the hard drive back, and we looked at it, and then we realised, um, it wasn't actually ours, and so we sent it back and asked for our one, but, um, they said they'd sent it back to the factory. Oh, and this took us a month. Yeah. We tried really hard, guys."
BURN THEM.
Understandingly, of course.
Benedictus - January 15, 2007 11:50 PM (GMT)
That's horrendously pathetic business management.

Its a shame, but im sure we all knew it was coming.
At least we can still hold the memory of those posts, deep down in our hearts. They can't lose that server atleast.

Calm down Chilli. You're not debating now...

Do you know anything about the inbox messages that we supposably have but can not see?
Thragka - January 28, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
How come so many topics have just disappeared?
Luc_Arkhame - January 29, 2007 12:32 AM (GMT)
Everyone's inbox has probably been affected differently, so I am unsure how to answer that question. My inbox for instance is now at -18% with a couple of items actually still in there. I'll have a look through the support information later to see if I can find an answer.
The missing topics are my doing, I deleted all of the empty threads.
@ztech - January 29, 2007 12:48 AM (GMT)
My inbox is apparently 46% full even though it's empty. But it's not so bad: I'll still have more than enough place if I clean it up once in a while.
Thanks, Luc, for deleting the empty threads.
Thragka - January 29, 2007 08:21 PM (GMT)
Hmmm ... upon checking again, it appears that the topics I had prieviously thought were gone and had still retained their previous posts are still, in fact, there. False alarm, then.
Good thinking, Batman Luc!

Have you looked at your sent items as well?

I never save the messages I send.
