i am new to this forum and to warhammer. i decided to collect dark elves, wat should i get? is malekith worth it? plz give me some ideas plz

If your starting Dark Elves best bet is not to get special characters untill you need to though here is what you might considering getting depending on your budget.

2 Box sets of Warriors( either have them with spears or repeater crossbows)
1 Sorcesses(sp)
and a Dark elve lord (either on foot or mounted on a Cold one) if on foot get yourself some Excutioners, mounted get loads of cold one knights there the best thing since slice bread those guys.

P.s You do own a copy of the army book? if not Get Yourself one! :)

Also a further note, Welcome to the forums and i hope that we see you around more often.

i am planning to collect 3,000 point army. i already got some ideas:

15 crossbow guy
4 reapter thrower
2 unit of corsairs
2 unit of dark riders
2 cold one chariot
2 units of cold one knights
1 unit of witch elfs
either a war hydra or black guard
a lord
a high soceress

can you tell me good items that will make my lord and high soceress have good save and powerful. this army list will be probably too big so plz give ideas wat to take out and wat to add. thx

Well depends on what kind of army your making :) but you seem to have a good opinion on things. However about the Items I for one cannot help you I have not got the Army book at the moment but I will have one much later on during the week..

One thing however why Chariots? I know they come as a Single Special choice but you seem to have a good striking force of 2 Cold one units and 2 fast Dark Rider units, Pretty much a good valuable team.

2 units of 5 dark riders with repeater crossbow.
1 unit of 16 crossbowmen
3 units of 5 cold one knights
4 reaper crossbow
20 witch of khaine
2 cold one chariots(dunno should i get 1 instead, plz help me on that also)

I would Increase the Coldones units so you can have rank bonuses also just go to

Uncleanone
That has all the Items you can equipped on your Lords and Heros

doesnt work that link.

BTW, cold one cost alot so wat should i take out to get more cold ones

Your list is too character heavy, and too low on models, you'll get shot to bits. Along the same lines: your cold one units are too small, they'll be mincemeat for any opponent with a missile weapon.

the link is The Great Unclean One

tombguard missed out the 'the' at the start of the name B)

Thank you Se7enalicious, Also about use of Cold ones as all calvary use them in Numbers or they will drop like flies to Long range

very nooby man - October 22, 2003 01:39 AM (GMT)
which hero should i take out then, and wat unit should i take out to get more cold ones

Dark Lord Jim - October 22, 2003 08:11 AM (GMT)
Drop Malekith, ok he's cool but you can get a couple of decent fighting heroes to plonk in your Cold One regiments, and you can increase the size of said Cold One regiments with any points you have left over. I don't like special characters, I think they are a waste of time for any battle except re-enactments.

Cheers,
DLJ

i just plain dont like malekith much - i think the model is great, looks cool - its just not really worth nearly 1000 points

(no problem tombguard ^_^)

First off, I agree that Malekith isn't worth the points, so I'd drop him for sure. (Remember that you can use the model as a normal lord, if that's what you wanted.)
The witch elves look really out of place in your army as it is right now; unless all of you Cold Ones go stupid at the same time-and it could happen-they'll just be left behind the rest of your army to be picked off at your opponent's leisure.
As already said, bump up the Knight units to 8 or so, add a couple of fighty characters, not necessarily with magic items, and consider whether you really need the crossbowmen and 4 RBT's.
Obviously this is your list, so pick and choose what's helpful to you. This is just what I'd do given the guidelines of what you want.
One thing that I always recommend (that I picked up from reading a lot of Baron DeSade's posts :D) is that you look at each unit in your list, and ask yourself why it's there. What does it add to your list that you need, and that no other unit can do either cheaper or more effectively?

very nooby man - October 24, 2003 01:37 PM (GMT)
actually, i want malekith for his good weapons and 2+ ward, but he cost too much so i will drop him. so should i drop my witch elves and get some more troops instead. Btw, is 21 crossbow guys enough for a 3,000 point army or should i get more?

very nooby man - October 25, 2003 02:57 PM (GMT)
i improved my list again

16 crossbow dudes
3 units of 10 cold one knights with standard bearer
1 units of 5 dark riders with crossbow
2 units of 10 dark riders with spears with standard bearer
2 units of 16 spearman with standard bearer
4 repeater bolt thrower

there is 700 points left for heroes and lordes . PLZ PLZ PLZ, tell me wat lord and hero should i get as HQ and wat items should i equipe them with.

Se7enalicious - October 25, 2003 03:18 PM (GMT)
hmm - PERSONALLY I'd go for a high born on a cold one w/ heavy armour + Sea Dragon cloak (at 15 points he heavy armour and sea dragon cloak make him last a hell of a lot longer)

Items really depends on what army you're fighting :(

like if you're fighting chaos or dwarves you'd want a powerhouse with elite weapons, no armour saves or something.

but for armies with bad armour, then you might just want extra attacks to kill more in one turn

Vriishnak the Twisted - October 25, 2003 05:58 PM (GMT)
Your army really lacks focus now. The two blocks of spearmen don't fit in with the rest of the army, as they'll just be left behind as the knights and dark riders move forward. The archers have the same problem, somewhat offset by the fact that they can shoot as they move. I'd drop the spearmen for another dark rider regiment and try to add a hydra, as it fits with the cold one/fast moving idea.
Also, why aren't you giving full command to your units?

As to characters, it depends on whether you want magic or combat. If you want magic, a high sorceress, two normal sorceress, and a noble would probably be best. With only 700 points, you're probably not going to fit two lords.
Combat, I'd say a highborn, two nobles and a scroll caddy.
If you let us know which you prefer and what you're expecting them to do, I'm sure you'll get much more specific answers.
