so I thought about doing a border patrol for high elves, well think again. it´s darn difficult to get a good list with HE. not only are they expensive pointwise, but their core choices are very limited. and when only one special OR rare choice is allowed, it get´s really tricky.

so anybody got any suggestions for good border patrol list´? share your wisdom B)

I suppose Ellyrian Reavers or Shadow Warriors would not be out of place in a Border Patrol, or perhaps White Lions or Great Eagles. Forget about any other special or rare choices: I just don't see Swordmasters or Dragon Princes patrolling the wilderness.

As core choices, we immediately think about archers, who are more likely to be roaming the mountains than Spearmen or Silver Helms. Of course, this will make a very shooty army, but if we want to respect the theme, we have to field troops of this kind.

yeah, I will very likely got pretty shooty. commander with say a reaver bow, some archers. a RTB and a small unit of helms should do it :)

A RBT? Could you just imagine a gang of Elves patrolling the shores or the mountains with a bolt thrower? That's just ridiculous. A border patrol would no doubt be very mobile, with a lot of skirmishers, flyers and fast cavalry. Silver Helms are not suited for patrolling, either. Here's a list of about 400 points that shows what I'd take:


1 Commander (70) with halberd (4), heavy armor (4), shield (2), Reaver Bow (40). Total: 120 points.

12 archers (144) with Musician (6). Total: 150 points.

5 Ellyrian Reavers with bows (120) with Musician (7). Total: 127 points.

Total: 397 points.


Of course, you might want to play larger games, but this is my list for the scenario of the patrol of Anulii. This shows the kind of troops I'd take.

Mine is:
Commander: Ithmilar barded Elven steed, great weapon, heavy armour, shield

5 helms: full equipment, champion

5 helms; full equipment, fc

10 shadow warriors

It's a nasty list for 500pts but is very fragile.

well, the border patrol needs to be effective aswell :) the bolt thrower would add a lot of firepower aswell as some high strength attacks in case im up against brets or ogres etc.

Although I am not the experienced HE player, I have used one list to great effect (I am pretending to ignore the ending of this thread should that have happened :rolleyes: ) and it isn't entirely different from Tyrion's one, but it is still substansiously different.

commander- enchanted shield, hvy armour, reaver bow

16 spearmen- champ, stand.

10 archers

great eagle

At the moment it looks a little rough without the points cost and everything and the commander may not need the enchanted shield but this is how I remember my list but I originally put the commander on the eagle but changed my mind last minute, so this might be ten points or so under as I think I also included a lance as well.

Well, anyway, this list in my eyes is great. you sort sit back shooting at the enemy most of the time (for the commander) hitting and woundind on 2's whilst the archers are at the very back withering away at the lines. the eagle flies on a flank ready for a flank charge (when the time is right)/march blocking/ any other annoying thing and for some reason the pigeon never dies! It's great! :lol: . Well that's my ingenius list.

nice list omid :) I played my list on tuesday and it worked great. mass shooting can be very effective in battles this small. unfortunatly the didnt get to show it´s full potential since we played this 4 way battle. one on one it should be a killer tho :)
