well these models have been painted ages ago it feels like so I have improved since them. the quality shouldnt be all that bad. tho im not the photographer so dont blame me if it isnt :P since most of you guys have shown of your stuff I thought Iīd return the favour so here is my high elf spearmen regiment. eltharion is in there too but you cant see that much of him.
will post more pics when I get hold on a camera :ph43r:

here is also a link to some of the entries for the paintingcompetition in my town, some of them are really neat.

Not bad. I love the bases and the chainmail. Don't you have a pic of Eltharion alone?

Nice hair. I really like the chainmail but i dont really like the red on the shields, i dosent look too detailed. Good Job though.
Btw shouldnt this be in the painting and modelling forum??
Tyrion - October 1, 2005 02:24 PM (GMT)
god damnit  wrong forum, that is correct. what did I think? could a mod be kind enough to move it to the appropriate forum? I was under the impression that I put it in the painting forum, spooky :ph43r:
the reason for not having highligted the red more is that I want a darker shade of red, dont want it to end up looking orange or something. it looks different in real life. no unfortunatly I have no separate pic of eltharion since I found this pic at the homepage of my local gaming club.
and like said, these models are old, painted them when they were released. still thought that I would show you guys something at least.

Ah, so it was a while ago. I would have thought that you would have substantiously improved in the space of 3-4 years should you have focused.
That's not to say that these are mad by any means :P What did you use for the red? If you don't want it going to bright why don't you work backwards? As in to say (for example, you haven't done this) instead of using blood red as a basecoat blending up to some form of orange however cool it looks; you use blood red as the final highlight? For instance (what I use) a blend of dark flesh to red gore to blood red; or, if you're slightly lazier, blending red gore to blood red. I think it gives off a slightly more realistic look.
Remeber, just because you can't clearly see a colour hidden in other colours doesn't mean it isn't their. For rexample whenever a member at my GW start a terrain piece they always drown the thing with a mix of green and black ink whether it's a piece for lustria or a mine of moria.
Well, they look good, nicely uniformed as well. :D

what I have done for my redīs is basically red gore/blood red/red ink/blood red highlights
I also see that the last rank is missing, that was in the middle of a game. oh well, thereīs always casualties :P

I think that they look pretty good,
:thumb:
I think that the green around their individual bases is distracting and so would paint the sides grey to match the movemnet tray that they are standing on... otherwise they look pretty good (for 'Gingers' :P )
To create a believable dark red, have a dark brown as your first coat, and then gradualy create shades from dark brown to red by adding red to the dark brown.
Omid is quite right. decide which colour will be your highlight and then work out your shades, going backwards to shadow, (do this on a piece of paper, then on your model, work from your darkest shade upwards to the highlight you desired.)

thanks for the tips guys. dont think I will repaint the models I have painted already. though I have another unpainted spearmen regiment that I can experiment on.
I would like to show you guys the more exotic elements of the army, but I need to get a camera first :) I will try to borrow one if I can.
