Title: My planned ogre army
Prince Cal - September 17, 2005 12:50 PM (GMT)
Well I know how resistant I was to ogres, I know what I said but I've finally given into the hankering I've had for them. It started when I made a list a few months back yet that never came to bear, then I collected a small unit of specialised Ironguts for my elf army (at some point, I'll do something on how I intend to convert these) and a combination of things have led to be to create this little baby:
Tyrant, Heavy Armour, Longstrider, Wyrdstone Necklace, The Tenderizer, Luck Gnoblar
Butcher, Dispel Scroll, Dispel Scroll
Butcher, Dispel Scroll, Bangstick
3 Bulls, Light Armour, Ironfists, Bellower
3 Ironguts, Bellower
3 Ironguts, Bellower
3 Ironguts, Bellower
3 Yhetees
3 Yhetees
Scraplauncher
8 Gnoblar Trappers
Gorger
Gorger
Ok, the most notable things are the lack of a standard, no blechies and a lot of ironguts. Well the army is designed to be very very flexible, I can afford to lose everything in the army apart from the tyrant really. The thing is people always think ogres are weak, well the idea is to be on you quickly, get round the flanks, march block and swamp with ironguts. So, thoughts people?

Greetings, well generally i see this list as fine, though its a bit small. But I can see how this army can do well as theres alot of mobility ( 2 yhetees, 2 gorger, trappers! )
well im not too confident about the scraplauncher, with its horrible leadership, in quite alot of my games they are ether really useful or dam useless by running away -_- however its your choice. IMHO i would drop the scraplauncher and do ether
1. add another iron gut (since u want to show em some beef )
2. add a small unit of leadbleachers 3 will suffice, they are very versatile cost the same amount and i believe they are more effective ( better at cc and better leadership and reasonable fire power
last point, your tyrant has the longstrider name so do you plan to stick him in a unit and then let him leave the unit and chargE ? cause other 2 options that i know of ( going solo attracting fire is bad and stickign it in the unit and making no use of its longer movement)
thats all i got to say, overall i recon its a good list

Your units are too small in my opinion. A single loss will be enough to send any of your regiments out of the table, with their Ld7. If I were you, I'd divide the Ironguts between one unit of three and one unit of six.

Umm, I'm not a collector to OK but I think your list may be illegal. Firstly, I don't think you're allowed that many butchers in 2k I'm not too sure on hat the rules are really but I'm pretty sure you're not allowed them. Also, To have gnoblar trappers don't you need a unit of fighter gnoblars first? I'm pretty sure that's the case.
Onto the list, as said before I'm not an ogre collector but I can give an outsiders opinion having seen ogres play before. I would say it was a solid list, damn fast with two units of yhetees running around the table, and there's a lot of S6 attacks as well you're definitely going for the kill count rather than having a standard. One question though, which armies do you play against because I would consider swapping a unit of ironguts for a unit of bulls with additional h/ws for more attacks instead of a higher strength, also that would mean one pack of bulls would cover two units :D that's got to be good.
My thoughts anyway, Omid B)

I there Prince Cal, i think this list is pretty cool... I have one pretty near and makes good matches! As for the Scraplauncher i don't know what to say cause i've never used one, so no opinions. The mobility is huge and having yhettes with no penalties for movement is just great.
@ omid: you're completely wrong... there's no limit of butchers in an army (where did you get that?), they're just hero's like any other hero's in other armys! So as long as you don't have as many hero entries that ist's allowed than you can make an army where hero's are all butchers. And again about the trappers the only restriction there is, is that one unit is allowed per army and +1 for each hunter you field in...
@ ztech: i gess that you are right but for that you'll have to put units of 5+ models, and if they test too and fail the test? if you can't hold them back then you'll lose a big amount of points. i tend to use them like this to and i guess that it's the way i prefer most.
As for dropping the Scraplauncher for Leadbelchers i don't know... as i said i haven't played with ine yet so no opinions!

i have heard a similar rule to omids where you need to have a tyrant or bruiser before you can take butchers, so you wont be able to take an all butcher leader army, i may be wrong correct me if so ^_^

I there farsight, the only thing i know is what i read in the ogre kingdoms book and in there nothing says that... so for as i'm concearned it's not like that! you can only take a slaughtermaster (lvl4 mage) if you take a tyrant and that's true but not butchers(they're lvl 2 mages)! so we can only take lvl 4 mages in 3000+ games cause it's where you can have 2 lords (but that's only for slaughtermasters).
Edit: i believe that i may be wrong (sorry everyone) cause it says in the OK book that the butcher cannot be the army general, so no all butchers army can be made but there's no limit (besides de hero's slots) to the number of butchers that exist in an army.
