Title: Rules Query
Description: Fear and Stand and Shoot

Dark Lord Joe - September 5, 2005 01:05 PM (GMT)
When a fear causing unit declares a charge against a unit which elects to stand and shoot, do the shooting unit take their fear test before or after the have shot. Also if a fear causing unit decides to charge a unit but is not in range, do they take a fear test.
I just want to clear this up.

P.S-- If your name is omid dont answer this thread cos i know what you think.

If a fear-causing unit charges, the charged unit must declare what it wants to do as a charge reaction. Then you measure if the charger is in range. If it is, the charged unit must take a fear-test. If it succeeds, it may act as normal. If they fail, and their US is smaller than that of the charger, they flee immediately. If their US is equal or higher, they may stand and shoot as normal and will need 6's to hit in close combat.

If the charger is out of range, a fear test is not required. If the charged unit chose to stand and shoot, it may still shoot, even if the charger doesnt reach the unit.

Sorry i should have made it plainer. What do you do first, take the fear test or resolve the stand and shoot?

Funky the Elf - September 5, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
As I said, you take the fear-test first.

1) Opponent declares charge

2) You declare your charge reaction

3) You take the fear-test (if the charger is in range)

4) If you dont flee you may stand and shoot, if that was the charge reaction you chose at step 2)

Hope its clear now! ;)

Ok. Thanks a lot funky. Also if your not in charge range do the enemy still get to stand and shoot?

I would have thought it wouldn't matter. You aren't supposed to declare charges that are obviously not in charge range. Even with throwing axes you would have to be a very poor judge for the units to be out of range: you'd have to miss by 6" (or is it 8"? can't remember now) for it to matter.
