Well, in case it wasn't obvious by the title, what is the best way to buy paints?
I am in the fortunate position of most of my paints running out at the same time (well, not really, but the colours I lost weren't that bad, and you can still paint wood elves with just a few shades of green, brown, flesh and metals).
For a while now I've been using the battle games in middle earth paints (if it is just starting up in your area, get the first magazine heaps of times: gets you all the basic colours, a brush, a die, as well as a few LOTR goblins), but they are finally running out :(
I have considered buying a GW paint set until I realised that all of the paint sets are now about the same price as 9 paints and a brush: there seems to be no discount in buying the set (and you don't get any miniatures in them like we used to, or else the minis are so old and crappy they aren't worth getting, like 5th edition chaos warriors).
Anyway, what is the best way to get a basic set of paints cheaply?
Try and find an independent retailer that sells GW minis at a discounted price, for example
http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk sells GW stuff at 10% less than GW with no P&P, but only delivers to U.K IIRC.
You could try switching ot a different company, like vallejo or coat 'd arms, who do better paints and you can get bundles for discounted prices.
Why cant you just use the GW paints. Apart from brushes, paints are the only thig they dont charge an extortionate price for.

I beg to differ. Here in the U.K its £1.75 for a little tub of paint and with vallejo you get allmost twice as much paint for 35p less.Allmost every paint manufacturer will do the same type of paibnts as GW for a lot less. The only reason GW brushes are so cheap is cos they're crap.
Yeah i agree with ross here i buy my apitns from a local paint manafacturer who sells a pots of apint 3 tiems the size of GW pain for about ahlf the price(75p a pot) and there jsut as good as gw paints. Also aobut GW brushes i odnt buy them seening as i have a tenedency to loose my temper when i budge a painting up and snal them. So i buy a packet of 150 brushes for £5 which is good for me cus ill probbaly brake about 60 of them a month (just because i feel like it or am i am anrgy fro no apparent reason). Also if u r gonan get paints then vallejo is a good choice.
