Title: WIP Valten MKI

King Ulrik Flamebeard - June 17, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
Yet another model from me, and I thought I'd share what I've done so far and ask for advice.

Now, I started off my flesh with Dark Flesh and have mixed Dwarf flesh with it until I thought it was light enough. Then It was pure dwarf flesh and now dwarf flesh plus elf flesh.

But I've noticed something, I think the shading on the muscles is too deep. I'm wondering if anyone else agrees and any ideas on how to reduce the problem, and preferably without having to start on the flesh again.

(and yes, yet again three pics - different zoom lengths. I need practice.)

Thanks for any comments and advice.

well I think the flesh is painted very neat, but you are right about the shading...

It makes the whole model a little unnatural, which is really a shame, since you painted the flesh very realistic.

The only thing I can think of right now is picking a fine brush, choosing a colour a little brighter than the Dark flesh and use the drybrush technique to lighten the shadows...

Just a thought though :D

I would have to agree with prophet, the skin does look darker, maybe try a white ink wash dulled with some dwarf flesh, and use that to brush over the lines...

just a suggestion ^_^

Well folks... He's done. Oh yes, all done. (Well all but varnishing). I have enjoyed painting him, the pose and model itself I really liked. And IMO this is probably the best model I've painted to date and am really proud of it.

Thanks to everyone who has put in input and helped when I got stuck on sections, that really helped. Now without further adue...

Woah he's just awesome. The skin, trousers, and dead beast are all fantastic.my only complaint would be the top,the highlighting looks rough and sketchy.

Thanks.

Ross, the top, you mean his shirt? If so, I went for minimal highlighting. But it was a very dark grey and I only went so far as I was trying to copy GWs example.

Tyrion - I have pics of some of my Asur, not all. But this is the link -

It's missing my heros, spears and archers. This is beacuse they're all still in their Blue and White colours scheme not my current Red and white. They will be added when I get round to repainting them.

Do what I do, and use tanned flesh in place of dark flesh. Works wonders.

Umm.. yeah. I did that a while back now, it was sorted. But thanks.
