Title: most unpopular army
aceofspades - June 15, 2005 03:23 AM (GMT)
so what do think is the most unpopular army and why
Even though i am starting them i would say high elves cause people do not like thier low S and T
Drauthnir - June 15, 2005 04:17 AM (GMT)
Haha, though the strength and toughness are both average and overall comparatively low, they are far from unpopular. They're definitely one of, if not the, most highly represented race here.
Chaos dwarves are certainly dwindling. Other than that, I have to way to know that's become unpopular. It varies store to store, city to city.

Here in my remote province of this little Sh*t country, the Chaos Khorne players arent very populair, maybe because the players here are a little cheesy.
Swordsalot - June 15, 2005 10:51 AM (GMT)
For me at least it is skaven. That army has so much cheese that it can support hundreds of mice. Then there's the extra cheese-gatling gun, followed by the cheese cheesemakers and the magic cheesehurlers.
To put it sanely, they are unpopular because much of the army is overpowered (some of the magic items and unit options are a little insane). They are ok in moderation, but the people who max out on ratling guns attached to minimum sized core units are enough to make skaven top on my most hated list.

I dont dislike any particular army the most but what I dont like are players who build armies of very few but powerful models. I understand its great fun to have loads of giants, lots of Rattling guns or as many vampires as you can, but it always results in an army of very little visual impact; making it disapointing to look at.
I dont know if people think that they are being clever (beardy) or whether? Or is it a cop out for wanting to paint as little as possible?
For me Warhammer is about ARMIES and so I want to see as many models on the table as possible.
Shaargor - June 15, 2005 03:37 PM (GMT)
Chaos dwarves here. I don't think I have played nigh, but 1 chaos dwarf player in the last year.
Here high elves are very popular, along with lizardmen and chaos.

Out of all the armies with books and lists, I'd say tomb kings and skaven. Why?no idea for the skaven, but tomb kings are very hard to play and its hell boring to paint bone after bone.
chaos dwarves and dogs of war are unpopular because they have no books and very few mdels which you can buy in a shop, so new people have to delve into resources to find them.
Tyrion - June 15, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
Iīll go with chaos dwarves as well. I think itīs cos they dont have rules apart from those that are found in the ravening hordes booklet. models are quite hard to get hold on aswell. they are not as "available" as other more common armies. altho there is one guy in my gaming club that have like 1500p worth of chaos dwarfs. he has mostly converted his models. a lot of chaos bits on dwarf models and he uses a lot of older edition dwarf models aswell. characters and warmachines are original models tho.

They aren't that hard to play, I began the hobby about 9 months ago, and have'lost just 1 battle.
They just need a bit more thought than most of the other armies.
Painting bone is really easy, and goes real fast, so there is no problem with that.
You are also not painting bone all the time. A lot of shields, scimitars, jewelry, armour and such are involved too with them.

I don't know a lot of Wood Elves players.
And I wonder who would take a foul and stinking army such as Skaven. They're so ugly and disgusting! Try to imagine the smell of an undead Clan Pestilens plague monk worshipping Nurgle...
Luc_Arkhame - June 16, 2005 12:53 AM (GMT)
The gaming group at my GW has someone playing every army, Dark Elves being the most popular strangely enough, except we have no Dogs of War player.
As for the army no one wants to play against, Skaven, hands down. Those rats can hurt you really badly from every angle, and on a properly terrained battlefield it is ridiculously difficult to catch them and crush them. And the guy who plays them is a pretty good tactician, so it gets even worse.
As for the most unpopular, Dogs of War and Chaos Dwarves, since they are difficult to collect.
Grimgor Ironhide - June 16, 2005 03:39 PM (GMT)
Chaos Dwarves, Skaven, Tomb Kings, and Wood Elves (although I think a lot more people will do wood elves when the new stuff arrives).
The most popular are probably high elves, lizardmen, and chaos.
Dark Lord Joe - June 16, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
I have to agree with the ace of spades. Not only do the have low S and T. There soooo poncy. Not like the malicious Dark Elves. mwuhahaha.
aceofspades - June 16, 2005 06:48 PM (GMT)
the reason i say high elves is because in my club i have not seen many He players
mumba_jumba - June 16, 2005 07:23 PM (GMT)
I would say that (other then Chaos Dwarves and Dogs of War) that each army is somwhat equally represented, obviously chaos is alot more frequent, but each has its own loyal fanbase. And as it was said earlier, it varies from town to town, where i live theres alot of Dark Elves and Chaos.
Treeman - June 17, 2005 03:57 AM (GMT)
In my town, basically everybody plays Chaos. <_<
Angry Priest - June 17, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
In my group of friends, everyone likes their super-mages so there are more than a few High Elf and Lizardmen armies <_<
Dreg - June 17, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
I would have to say around here that wood elves are very unpopular and both tomb kings and skaven r pupular(probbay cus it give u plenty of things to do when bored). But then again saying that in my area ive probaly only palyed laizardman twice since i started(10 years ago). So meh it does change.
Tyrion - June 18, 2005 11:38 AM (GMT)
guess im kinda lucky then since my gaming club has a vide variaty of armies :) maybe because most people have more than 1 army. my brother has 3 for example, have 2 myself ^_^ even have a chaos dwarf player.
Prince Cal - June 18, 2005 12:04 PM (GMT)
We have pretty much all the fantasy armies, chaos dwarf excluded. Thoughn quite a lot of armies are small a few people have a lot of armies so we can have decent sized battles. Though overall it has to be khemri as around here people just don't like them.
