Title: WH40K Special Character Arena
Description: Lets get ready to Rumble!!!

gandalf - December 17, 2003 10:46 AM (GMT)
Hmm so far the Chaos fiends seem to be the most popular, if one more person enters I'll start, as I will enter a character to end this Chaos incursion : Brother Captain Stern of the Grey Knights!
Points:141 (low but hey he's just for fun!)
WS BS S T I A Ld Sv
5 5 6 4 2 5 3 10 2+/5+
Wargear: Nemesis Force Werapon (force weapon gives +2 strength (see above) Storm bolter, grimoire of True Names (Daemons in hth half their WS) Terminator Armour (included above)
The Strands of Fate: May re-roll one dice per turn, however so may the enemy, any re-rolls not used in a turn are lost

gandalf - August 17, 2003 12:03 PM (GMT)
Well seeing as how the other 2 arenas never got really started i have decided to start up my own, only this time is is a little different

You may only pick special characters

No character may be picked twice

Maximum of one entry per member

Characters may not have any retinues/command squads/bodyguards or be mounted in a vehicle etc.

Vehicle special characters [the only 3 i can think of would be Asdrubael Vect, Nuada Fireheart and Moriar the Chosen, but there may be more] may not be chosen

Deep strike may not be used

Could participants please try and post the rules of these characters and all special rules so we all know their abilities [if not plz bear in mind that i dont have the rules for Orks [except Ghazgkul Thraka] Catachans, Dark Eldar]

To allow for shooting and psychic power attacks i will deploy each character 24" apart, if the character has infiltrate he may be deployed 18" from the opponent

No challenging until the 2nd round

I will randomly generate the drawing for the 1st round and notfy all

I will fix a closing date for entries , all entries MUST BE IN BY THE 1st September 2003 by 10.00AM GMT

If not enough special characters are entered the spares will fight a NPC [Non player character]
for round 1 this will be...
Space Marine Force Commander with power sword and plasma pistol

Any queries will be answered to the best of my ability

Most of all have fun!!!!! :D

gandalf - August 22, 2003 09:57 AM (GMT)
C'mon people only a few daysleft to get those entries in, if this doesnt work ill try it on the WHFB Arena, would that be preferable?

Drauthnir - August 22, 2003 02:51 PM (GMT)
This isn't a bad idea, but some characters in this game aren't exactly the most balanced things of all 40K. Asurmen is quite good for his points, right Paco?

In WHFB, the characters are more balanced (so you don't have to have opponents permission to use them).

Paco - August 30, 2003 03:11 PM (GMT)
ya, Asurman ROCKS!!!! :ph43r:

No Bionics, nartheciums, exsanguinators allowed.

Isn't etheric tempest S3 rather than S5.

It says "unless the squad is made entirely up of models with a base toughness higher than 4". That means S5 stuff, like Obliterators, Carnifeces, Pariahs, Crisis Battlesuits, et aliis.

Special Rules

Sniper: All of the special rules that apply to sniper also apply to Sly, excpet where modified below

May Move: Unlike other snipers, Sly may move after he has been revealed. You may remove him in your movement phase as if he was a normal sniper; write down the coordinates for a square adjacent to the one he disappeared from. He may reappear there using the Ambush Rules from the start of his next turn. You cannot reveal and remove Sly in the same turn. Whilst on the table, he may move and make assaults like any other model

Ripper Pistol: Sly is armed with a ripper pistol which fires a hail of poisoned metal shards at the target. It follows the same special rules for wounding as a sniper rifle. The ripper pistol uses deathworld toxins and may re-roll any failed rolls to wound.

Ripper Pistol: Range 12"

Envenomed Blade: Sly carries a catachan knife with a monofilament blade coated with deadly toxins. It is treated as a power weapon and the deathworld toxins allow Sly to re-roll any failed rolls to wound in close combat.

He'll prob get crushed but o wells

Jamez - December 29, 2003 10:34 AM (GMT)
Is this arena still goin.

gandalf - December 29, 2003 11:16 AM (GMT)
sorry due to xmas i have been a bit delayed give me until after 3rd January 2004 and I'll begin

Jamez - December 29, 2003 01:11 PM (GMT)
Why cant u do it now m8. can we add r stuff in now or no.

giles - December 29, 2003 07:07 PM (GMT)
hmmmmm *thinking* the start date coincides with the start of winter war, hmmm any connection?

gandalf - January 1, 2004 01:14 PM (GMT)
No I'm just busy and have family until then, and you can still add characters if you havent entered before then.

giles - January 1, 2004 07:06 PM (GMT)
fair enough... well i know i should be finishing painting my army for winter war...

gotta dash...!

gandalf - January 4, 2004 11:10 AM (GMT)
Well the time has come for this arena to begin, with Round One being:
Abaddon the Despoiler of Worlds vs Lucius the the Eternal, champion of Slaneesh
Abaddon entered the arena, his sword thirsty for blood, Lucius also entered feeling exhiliration as the roars of the arena crowds nearly deafend him.
Abaddon gaining the intiative whilst Lucius was taking in the emotions, ran forwards, taking a pots shot at Lucius, but the Bolts were absorbed by lucius's Deamonic armour, Lucius, swinging round moved forwards, eager for combat.

Eventually the 2 got into hth, neither gun able to inflict wounds on the opponent, but here Lucius got a taste of the sheer power of the champion of Chaos, as he was knocked down by Abaddon's lightning claw, then as Lucius dimly looked up, the last thing he saw was the Despoiler's sword stabbing into his heart...

Abaddon is through to the next round!

Fight 2 will be...
Kharn vs Nightbringer
Fight 3 will be...
Sly Marbo vs Brother Captain Stern
Fight 4 will be...
Old One Eye vs Solar macharius

Good Luck to all combatants!

giles - January 5, 2004 07:45 PM (GMT)
:o i would have to get nightbringer in the first round wouldnt i.

neway, what is all this kharn hate you cheesemonger??? you damn well should beat me, being twice my goddamn points cost what would you f*****g expect????

see if i give a damn..

i know my world eaters would destroy necrons in an equal cost battle

T.N.E.T. Domination Inc. - January 6, 2004 11:35 AM (GMT)
Oh come come. Somebody would have had to anyway. though I really think Abbadon's sword and Old One eye are my only true opponents... Kharn, by the way is a great character. He's the superior to any other Chaos special character, as well as any Space marine character, the points cost probably does you in here. World eaters vs. Necrons? You'd need plenty of powr weapons and armour, because their "We'll be back" rule is a bi---.

gandalf - January 6, 2004 12:02 PM (GMT)
Sorry luck of the draw and all that, well anyway time to post up
Fight 2 Nightbringer vs kharn the Betrayer
Kharn looked at his opponent, the thought of prehaps a truly worthy opponent made him lick his lips in anticipation, Gorechild yearning to put his axe through the thin body of te Nightbringer.
Nightbringer was determined to eradicate the warp spawned cattle. and the so the combat commenced, as both were designed for hth more then shooty both rushed up, (although Nightbringer tried to hit Kharn with his Lightning arc but missed)
then hth- Kharn andf Nightbringer hit simulaaneously, with kharn gaining the advantage of the charge with his huge momention. Kharns attacks all hit, and 4 attacks managed to wound Nightbringer, who, crucially managed to save one, his return atttacks left Kahrn dead as the dodo, and another soul was fed to the star god...

Nightbringer will play Abbaddon in the next round!

Next fight will hopefully be tommorow, sorry to be the bearer of bad new Giles, but someone had to fight him... :(

T.N.E.T. Domination Inc. - January 6, 2004 11:26 PM (GMT)
HOLY SH--!!

I can show how I fared so poorly against Kharn, my bad for the craptacular spacing.

WS:6
BS:4
S:10
T:8
W:5
I:4
A:5
LD:10
Sv:4+

I know it looked like S8, T5, W4, and I5, but with a points cost of 360 that seems a wee bit weak. I hope my vertical line-up is more clear.

Gue'vesa'ui - January 10, 2004 01:33 PM (GMT)
I wonder if I stand the slightest chance against Old One Eye?

giles - January 8, 2004 08:29 PM (GMT)

Fight 3 Sly Marbo vs Brother Captain Stern
Sly Marbo entered the arena nervous without the trees, then he heard a shriek whine and suddenly he saw him, Brother Captain Stern, Stern, knowing that the fate of this person is entwined with the Daemonic, aimed his storm bolter, wounding Sly as his flak shirt provided no protection from Stern's psychic bolts, and he collapsed, on the floor and Stern teleported out again without a trace...
Stern is through to the next round!
Cya all later, sorry Sly!

andrew - January 9, 2004 10:07 PM (GMT)
that was so obvious that stern would win

gandalf - January 16, 2004 05:39 PM (GMT)
Fight 4 Solar Macharius vs Old One Eye
Lord Solar walked in, suddenly the grouns shook as Old One Eye stepped in.
The beast smashed into Macharius as he was taking aim with his bolt pistol, smashing right into his armour, which although absorbing the majority of the impact failed to prevent a cruical wound, smashing Macharius's rib cage. Old One Eye bellowed in triumph...
Old One Eye will fight brother captain stern
It seems the Guard are not meant for Special character arenas, time will tell how the other races do...

LordChilipepa - February 23, 2004 10:03 PM (GMT)
Yes! My gigantic, slavering monster crushed an old man! What an achievement!
