Title: Elven Showdown

Ross - April 19, 2005 07:20 AM (GMT)
Yes that's right, its time for a elf only AoD!

Basic AoD rules apply, only you must choose either a dark, wood ,or high elf character.

(Druchii anointed not allowed.)

you're allowed 250 points to spend on a Elven character on foot (fighty) ,with 100 points to spend on magic items.Characters will be PMED to me or posted on this topic.Characters must be with at least a small paragraph of fluff.

Lord of Nonsensical Crap - April 19, 2005 02:18 PM (GMT)
Morien Fireheart (Elf Prince)- 125
M: 5
WS: 7
BS: 6
S: 4
T: 3
W: 3
I: 8
A: 4
Ld: 10

Hunter's Axe (Great Weapon)- Morien's weapon of choice is a finely-crafted battle-axe that he has used ever since he first joined the ranks of the White Lions. He weilds this heavy axe to deadly effect, and his great strength makes this weapon all the more deadlier. (+2 strength, strikes last)- 6 points

Tough As Nails (Armour of the Gods)- Morien's life of hardship and battle has made him stronger and tougher than an average Elf. (+1 Strength, 3+ armour save)

Never Give Up (Vambraces of Defense)- Morien is renowned or his stubborn defiance in the face of the enemy: he will never give up or yield, and will fight to the death if need be. This stubborn defiance allows him to ignore wounds that would incapacitate any other mortal. (4+ ward save, rer-roll failed armour saves)

Unshakeable (Pure of Heart)- Morien doesn’t scare easily – whether he is faced with hordes of enemies, a slavering ten-foot Bloodthirster or a door-to-door salesman, Morien will almost never run from a good fight. (Leadership 10) -Free

Total: 221 points
Total: 221 points

Physical Appearance: Morien is a tough, muscular (by Elven standards, anyway) Elf with long brown hair and a grim, battle-scarred face. He wears the traditional white shirt and kilt of Chrace (and often silences chuckling onlookers with some very colourful words or a fist to the jaw), as well as a lion’s pelt over his shoulders. He has a very short temper, and speaks and behaves in a gruff, decidedly un-Elven manner that many Asur nobles find shocking.

Background:
The exiled Elf known as Morien Fireheart was once a mighty warrior in the service of the Phoenix King. Originally a lowly hunter from Chrace, Morien joined the Asur army at an early age and fought with valour during the Witch King’s second incursion into Ulthuan. During these troubled times, Morien rose quickly through the ranks, eventually taking command of a host of warriors. Morien proved to be a successful commander, and quickly earned a reputation for himself as a mighty and aggressive warrior (thus earning the nickname “Fireheart”, though some have speculated that he also earned this name due to his fiery spirit and temperament)
During this war against the Druchii, however, Morien constantly had to deal with the fickleness and occasional corruption of the Elven court. Once, intrigue at court resulted in Morien’s superior commander being replaced by an incompetent noble who had merely been given the rank through favouritism. This noble’s foolish tactics caused the loss of hundreds of Asur lives, and it was only thanks to Morien’s quick thinking that the battle did not turn against them. Nonetheless, from that day, Morien became disgusted by the capriciousness and pompousness of the Elven aristocracy.
After the war, Morien’s bitterness led him to harbour beliefs that the High Elves had lost all of their power of old because they had grown weak – he felt that they had become too concerned with trivial luxuries and political power than fighting for their race’s survival. He began to openly denounce the Elven aristocracy as being corrupt. This, however, was not exactly Morien’s brightest move – his enemies in the court quickly accused him of sedition and treason, and the Chracian was banished from Ulthuan (though his faithful warriors joined him in exile).
Since then, Morien and his warriors have travelled the world as mercenaries and sell-swords, and have earned a fearsome reputation throughout the Old World. However, Morien longs to one day return to his homeland, though he harbours deep bitterness towards the aristocrats who banished him . . . .

Recent Events:
During Lord Chilipeppa’s attempted invasion of Naggaroth, Morien learned that his wife and son had been killed in a Druchii raid back in Chrace. Morien was utterly destroyed by this news, and even now he has not fully recovered-- he often has sudden moods swings, sinking into black depression in one minute and snapping into unreasonable anger the next. Morien is now usually silent and grim, and inside he blames himself for the death of his family. However, despite his inner guilt, he ruthlessly seeks out the Druchii to make them pay for what they did, and is slowly becoming obsessed with vengeance. Indeed, he has even gone so far as to make a pact with Vellinor in order to avenge his family’s murder. Now, none can truly say what to lengths Morien will go to gain vengeance.

Why the race restriction? Anyway here's my character

Nightshade (Bladesinger): 135 points

M:5 WS:7 BS:4 S:4 T:3 W:3 I:8 A:3 LD: 9

Equipment

The Pharekon Blades (+2 attacks): 50 points
Nightshade eschews the swords typically used by wardancers in favour of these unusual weapons. They are worn strapped to his fore-arms and consist of a curved blade that runs it's entire length and continues on about nine inches past the elbow. The front end extends six inches past the hand and is connected by a hande to a second, thinner blade which also extends six past the hand.

Night's Gaurd (5+ ward save): 30 points
A black pearl in the shape of a cresent moon and enchated with protective spells. Nightshade wears it on a chain around his neck at all times.

Special Rules
Immune to psychology.
Magic Resistance 1
Wardances ( Alternate between Killing Blow and +1 Strength.)

Summary; 5 WS7 Attacks which are either S4 with Killing Blow or S5.

Total: 240 points

Appearance Nightshade is 6 feet tall, has blue eyes and red hair done up in a long ponytail. He wears a very dark green tunic and leggings.

Backround
Until fairly recently Nightshade was captain of a band of wardancers. He believed that the best way to protect the forest was to pre-emptively destroy any potential threat to it and personally led several daring raids against nearby enemy encampments. During a night-time assault upon an orc encampment he became separated from his comrades. When he returned to their camp three days later he was bleeding profusely but would not speak of what had happened to him.
Afterwards a dark mood descend upon him and he became increasingly withdrawn. His raids became more frequent and savage, so much so infact that the elders of his village began to worry. After one particularly brutal raid, during which he razed a Brettonian village to ashes, he was summoned before them, stripped of his rank and exiled. Now he wanders throughout the old world, tormented by fits of rage and bloodlust. Upon hearing of the arena he resolved to enter to take out his anger and extract vengeance upon those who exiled him.

Prince Cal - April 19, 2005 03:24 PM (GMT)
I'll be posting mine later but Dilandau if I'm not mistaken bladedancers cannot take magic weapons.

Spire - April 19, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
They can't take magic RANGED weapons but they CAN take magical close combat weapons.

Ross - April 23, 2005 03:05 PM (GMT)
O.k,thanks for the characters guys,I need 14 more!lol.

Spire - April 23, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
I would strongly recomend that you aim for 8 characters rather than 16.

Ross - April 23, 2005 04:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah,I probably will.

Allrighty,I need 6 more characters.

EDIT:I forgot to say before. The dark elf revision is in play (obviously) and you can use CoS and Albion magic items.

Drauthnir - April 24, 2005 09:41 PM (GMT)
Keldarael (High Elf Prince) – 221 points

Equipment: heavy armour, and Blade-Wind
Special Rules: Fear is Weakness

Blade-Wind: (Blade of Leaping Gold, Golden Shield) – 90 points
Keldarael has devoted his life to the mastery of swords, abandoning the traditional spears and bows as soon as his service in the levy was complete. His style is one that is relentless, permitting no respite to the enemy. With his light-weight sword, his attacks are many, and a sword swung against him can find little room for motion in the torrent. His blade becomes as constant upon his opponent’s armour as the wind itself.
(+3 attacks, -1 to be hit)

Fear is Weakness: (Pure of Heart)
Part of Keldarael’s Asur discipline has remained since his exile, but has been hardened by his overwhelming hatred for his former masters. Fear, he always preached, was a sign of weakness, and the Asur are the strongest of all races. He claims to be in complete control of his emotions, despite the hatred he often shows.
(Immune to Panic - yay)

In Sum:
See profile for High Elf Prince
+3 attacks
4+ armour save
enemies are at -1 to hit

A bit o’ fluff:

“I am Keldarael, rightful ruler of the city Tor Thaal. But the mage, Kaerdroth, has taken it from me and has forced me into exile. He has put that pathetic Prince Drauthnir in power in my place! He is too young, too weak, to lead! I was the commander of Thalek’s armies, I was next in the chain of command! I was the most skilled warrior in Tor Thaal! But I am left with nothing. Kaerdroth only uses him as a puppet, a tool of influence because Drauthnir is Thalek’s son. The cursed mage wants to develop an alliance with the humans. The humans! Those inferiors who feed the powers of Chaos, the powers that batter the gates of Ulthuan. I know that Drauthnir wants only vengeance for his father, and so do I…

“I can accept that the Asur are a dying race, but foolish Drauthnir would seek to preserve it. I know that the Asur are powerful enough to annihilate the forces of Chaos, but our weak king keeps that power pacified. We should march north and destroy them all, not sit idly in our homes and wait to meet out slow deaths. Our power is wasted like this. Tyrion’s strength is wasted. My strength is wasted!

“Yet I am forced to wander, alone, on the beaches of cold Naggaroth. Something calls to me here. I know it is the one who murdered Thalek, I can feel it. I shall kill him, and return to Ulthuan with the murderer’s demon-weapon. Then I shall kill Kaerdroth with it. Then I shall kill Drauthnir. And then, finally, the city will be mine again.”

LordChilipepa - April 24, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
Well, I'm not an elf meself, but on the mention of the word "Arena" I can't resist the urge to plug Rezephua. If you're looking for a large, dedicated arena following in future, Ross, try this site:

It is a good site I'll admit. However you should still keep using this site as well because I think it is possible to get this section more active.

Lord Drake the Heartless - 243 points

M 5
WS 7
BS 6
S 4
T 3
W 3
I 8
A 4
Ld 10

Equipment

Oblivion (Blade of Ruin) - 50 points
This black blade was forged of meteoric iron and enchanted with the darkest of magics by the coven of sorceresses, its impossibly sharp edge capable of slicing through any armour as if it were but cloth.
No Armour Saves are allowed against Oblivion.

Cloak of the Forgotten (Sea Dragon Cloak, Black Amulet) - 59 points
This regal blue cloak was created from the flesh of Asur slaves, and bathed in the dark blue blood of a Dragon Ogre; exuding a tangible aura of hatred and loneliness left by the souls of those sacrificed in its creation.
+1 to Armour Save, 5+ Ward Save, any wounds saved by the ward are rebounded on the attacker with no save of any kind allowed.

Armour of the Heartless (Heavy Armour, Shield) - 9 points
This suit of armour is a combination of bronze plates, chainmail and red robes; signifying him as master of the Ironfrost Deathwatch.
Gives a 4+ Save, just as a suit of Heavy Armour and a Shield would.

Background

Drake is the lord of the Ironfrost Deathwatch, a trio of towers near the edge of the glacier responsible for repelling the ice deamons and any other threats from every stepping into Naggaroth.

The nickname, 'The Heartless', is one that Drake jokingly keeps, after a human warrior refused to answer his question, choosing instead to spit at him and call him a heartless fiend. Drake laughed as he ripped the man's head from his shoulders with his bare hands; and makes sure that all of his slaves know that he is indeed heartless.

Aesgareth - April 25, 2005 05:01 AM (GMT)
I've given Tel'Shiran a bit too much airtime lately, so I went digging around in Rezephua's archives for one of the older ones. He won a similar arena way back when, so I figure he should preform at least adequately in this one... I'd include his background, but it is horrendously long. I had way too much free time back then...

Asherion the Black, Captain of the Black Ark "Eternity of Pain" (Dark elf Highborn, 125 points)

M: 5
WS: 7
BS: 6
S: 4 (6)
T: 3
W: 3
I: 8
A: 4
Ld: 10

Save: 3+
Ward: 4+

Equipment:

Kamatsu: Slung over Asherion's shoulder is a long, black-bladed sword, it's blade sharpened so well as to be able to slice through almost anything. Reputedly taken from the dead hands of a warrior from the mysterious land of Nippon, this weapon has since earned a fearsome reputation among the foes of the Druuchii. Ignores Armour saves, +50 points

Heavy Armour 5+ save, +6 points

Shield 6+ save, +3 points

Sea Dragon Cloak 6+ save, +9 points

Heartstone of Darkness 4+ ward save, +45 points

Total Cost: 238 points

Appearance: Asherion stands about 6 feet tall, with the usual slender build of all elves, though, among his own kind, he is viewed as powerfully built. He is clad entirely in black, his clothing being of a silk-like material, overlapped by a set of interlocking plates of black armour, each ornately enraved and etched with intricate golden bas-reliefs. Hanging across his back is a long black cape, plated with dark green scales and overlapped by a long-bladed Daikatana. His features are handsome, as with all elves, but in a cold, hard-edged way, his eyes seeming to burn with an indescribable rage which he keeps difficultly contained within. Whilst in the pits, he was not allowed to cut his hair, and he has allowed it to remain long, hanging almost to his waist, while it juts out a distance and then hangs down over the sides of his face in two long strands, so as to not obstruct his vision. It is white in colour, which is not unusual for his race, especially considering that he descended from the often white-haired shades of the mountains. He wears no helm, considering them to be more hindrance than aid. In battle, he fights like an elf posessed, brutally smashing and slicing apart his foes in a vicious display of rage and power.

Ross - April 25, 2005 07:21 AM (GMT)
Aesgareth,You woudn't be able to use the great weapon in combat because the 2+ armour comes with a shield.

Thanks everyone for the characters,I've got 5 so far,I'll probably create one myself to fill in some spaces (Dont worry I won't make him win)

Oh and chilli I had a look at your site,Its great but I think i Pmed you once of waht happened when I tried to join.

This made him even more mad.
He travveled around the world, and learned how to control himself, and learned all types of fighting techniques.

Asherion - Black Amulet
Zephyro - Black Amulet

I sense a recurring theme among the Druchii...

Aesgareth - April 25, 2005 04:36 PM (GMT)
As I said, I dug this guy up from the Rezephua archives, from an arena that took place a little over two years ago. COP and the new 4+ ward save item wasn't around back then, so Druchii characters basically had to chose between the Crown of Black Iron and the Black Amulet.

Can't say which is better in the current environment, but I've always liked the amulet. Not as protective, but the whole "spiteful counterattack" thing really fits the Druchii fluff.

Vriishnak the Twisted - April 25, 2005 07:52 PM (GMT)
First, Zephyro, you have 125 points of magic, and the limit was set at 100. You'll need to drop something - my recommendation would be either the Hand of Khaine or the Black Lotus, depending on which way you'd prefer to gamble.

Second, my character.

Vorkas, fallen Assassin
M6 WS9 BS9 S4 T3 W3 I10 A3(4) Ld10

Ever one of Vriishnak's most loyal warriors, Vorkas was present through all of his campaigns and battles, striking deep into the heart of enemy territory to strike down the most potent of the enemy's warriors. He proved himself efficient and skilled, and was hailed as most deadly among the Daemon Prince's legions, with the possibly exception of Vriishnak himself. Those who stood against the Daemonic hordes were driven to exhaustion in attempting to protect themselves from the deadly stealth of the assassin, and he often had a great effect on the outcome of a battle without having to strike a single blow.

In the Storm of Chaos, however, Vorkas was struck down in attempting to take the city of Rezephua in the jungles of Lustria. Though he was killed, his master was unwilling to end his service, and recovered his soul, fusing it into his mangled body once more with chaotic sorcery. His appearance is now horrific, striking fear into the hearts of those he targets, and what his body lost in speed has been made up for, as his opponents either underestimate the swiftness of his strikes or are so horrorstruck as to react more slowly than they would against more normal foes.

(Mark of Khaine, Heartseeker, Touch of Death, Talisman of Protection) - +1 Attack, must always pursue, reroll missed to hit rolls, Killing Blow, 6+ Ward Save, represented by speed.

Assassin: Always strike first in the first round of combat.
Hero-level upgrade - +1 W (25 points)

Total 245 points.

By the way, would it be too much to ask for hero-level characters to have a wound added to their profile to level the playing field? Not only are they generally unable to reach the full 250 points due to lower starting cost, they also tend to have other rules they're paying for. Nevermind the fact that, as it stands, the Lords have 50% more starting wounds, something that would be very hard to overcome.

I used this guy on another site, where I could use 125 points.

I''ll take off the hand of khaine, and give him a second hand weapon(+4)

So now he got 5 attacks with black lotus, and the black amulet.

Zephyro

Luc_Arkhame - April 26, 2005 12:48 PM (GMT)
Ok, but remember that your Black Lotus is coating only one weapon, so only four attacks can be made with the poison, at least one must have no additional abilities.

I know, but that's no problem to me ;)

Note: I've edited the description of Morien's equipment slightly (his Vambraces now represent his stubborn refusal to yield before his foe).

Vriishnak the Twisted - April 26, 2005 03:37 PM (GMT)
You sure on that, Luc? I'm fairly confident I've never read anywhere that a general upgrade like that only affects part of the character's equipment. I always thought it'd affect both weapons - is there a rule somewhere I missed?

Ross - April 26, 2005 03:39 PM (GMT)
nah,im quite sure luc is right on this one.the same thing happens to dwarven runes, anyway.

Vriishnak the Twisted - April 26, 2005 04:04 PM (GMT)
Well, Dwarfen runes are magical, and there's a rule specifically saying that you can't have an additional hand weapon with a magic item. Unless the poisons count as magical, I don't see any reason why both weapons can't be poisoned - witch elves and hags have two poisoned weapons, no? Would a Hag's second weapon stop counting as poisoned if she took Manbane or Black Lotus poison?

Born into the ruling family of Caledor, Imrahil has always had high expectations set upon him, from an early age he had to learn the arts of air, keep fit, build his strength and most importantly be strong in the mind. All was going well for the young noble until he was leading his troops into a minor skirmish against the dark elves. Initially the skirmish was going well for him but just as his troops were breaking the enemy he was challenged to mortal combat by the noble Rathius, they fought long and hard but eventually Rathius prevailed and Imrahil had to flee the field.

For a long time he lay in bed with a fell sickness, but one day around 3 months ago he recovered. Against all advice immediatley threw himself into a vigorous training regieme so he would soon be fit to battle, now that is over he has travelled here to prove he is worthy once more.

And for the sake of easiness,we'll just say both weapons are coated in poison.

Luc_Arkhame - April 26, 2005 04:24 PM (GMT)
On the topic of poison, the Dark Elf book says that any normal weapon may be coated in poison; although you can easily take two weapons with seperate poisons (since you cannot take the same upgrade twice), it does not specify that multiple weapons can be coated with the one poison upgrade. Although you can argue it is open to interpretation, the rules do not specifically state it can be done, which means that you have to assume that it can't be done.

In the case of the Hag, her weapons are already both poisoned and included in her points, if you choose to take an upgrade poison, then one of the weapons changes to the new type, the other stays as simply being poison (like Dark Venom would give it).

Vriishnak the Twisted - April 26, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
Alright, fair enough. Seems like an odd way to do it, but that's what the book says.

Luc_Arkhame - April 26, 2005 04:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah, unfortunately they didn't clarify it at all when they updated the book.

Prince Cal - April 26, 2005 04:30 PM (GMT)

Still another question needing answering - Ross, would you be willing to give hero level characters an extra wound, in order to give them a chance again the lords they'll be fighting? With 2W and the fact that they can't get up to 250, it's a bit lopsided at the moment...

Aesgareth - April 26, 2005 04:34 PM (GMT)
Ehh? Dual Hand weapons are normal weapons, aren't they? I'm fairly certain that by "Normal" they only mean "Non Magical;" otherwise they would say something along the lines of "poison can be used to coat a single hand weapon in the character's posession."

Right, I've added an extra wound to Nightshade.

Ross - May 8, 2005 03:35 PM (GMT)
Battle 1:Morien v Nightshade

Morien turned around quickly.Faster than a flash his axe was held into a threatening position towards the elf who was stood there. He was tall, with shocking red hair and blades attached from his elbow pointing down past his hands.
"You don't belong here, asur."
"We shall see"
Morien ran towards the elf in a roar, his axe ready to cleave the elfs head off.The wardance lept into the air,and did a flip over the white lion's head.Morien had little time to turn round and ready himself when the wardancer lunged and did a set of his own attacks. The wardancer jumped and did several turns in mid air, each time taking several swipes at morien.By the gods he was fast!Morien struggled to block all the attacks coming his way,and only a well placed shoulder barge forced the wardancer to make a swift jump back. The white lion took this opportunity and charged and swung at the wardancer, who blocked the attack with one of his blades. The white lion wasn't quick enough to block the next attack, and it skimmed past his shoulder, ripping his clothes and grazing his arm.Morien broke the deadlock, jumping back then forward, his axe above his head ready to cleave nightshade's skull.the wardance blocked it with both of his blades, then tried to break the deadlock with several speedy moves of his own.Morien was prepared, and as Nightshade let down his defence he swiped across his chest.Nightshade yelled in pain as he stumbled to the floor. As morien prepared ot finish him off,The wardancer swiftly jumped to the floor and was on morien in an instant. These set of attacks were stronger than the rest, and morien was dumfounded. As one blade tried to bite into his thigh, the other was taking swipes at his chest.Nightshade made a unexpected hack towards morien's leg.Morien cried out and stumbled, leaving his body exposed. The next attack left a gash across his neck. Both warriors were now bleeding heavily and had deep breathing.

Niightshade lifted his 2 blades, ready to finish the elf,but his blade were once again caught in a deadlock with the axe.Morien swung his axe to the ground, pining the blades there, then quickly swung his axe back and beheaded the other elf.
Blood spurted down from the decapitated corpse, the grotesque face rolling a few metres away. Morien, though injured and weary, was victorious.

VICTORY MORIEN FIREHART!

Spire - May 8, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
I shall accept my defeat with quiet dignity and grace.

AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGHHH! Why? Why did I have to lose? It's not fair! It's just not fair *bursts into tears*

*ahem* Well anyway, at least it looked like it was a close fight. There were a few grammatical errors but otherwise it was quite well written.

Aesgareth - May 10, 2005 05:23 PM (GMT)
Not bad, not bad at all. I'm almost thinking that I should have entered Tel'Shiran. A showdown between him and Morien would have been rather satisfying to read...
