Drauthnir’s High Elves vs. Khrangar’s Chaos in a Pitched battle
Archaeon has begun his march into Kislev, and the war has begun. Grimnos Lotharum only wished he could join the slaughter, but the cursed elves had drained away much of the power from that which his marauder tribe is based. He was now eager to regain Khorne’s favour, as he now marched toward the coast where Drauthnir’s warhost was headed. If the elf lord truly thought he could make the might Lotharum fall, then a great mistake had been made indeed.
At last, the High Elves had come into sight, but it seemed that they were aware of the pursuit and had formed their ranks. The Chaos army ran toward the elves ready to clash with the foe.
The ships were being prepared to return to Ulthuan, as were the orders. The oncoming army had to be held back at all costs if they were to make it back. Drauthnir’s only concern now was the safety of his citizens. A battle line was formed, and the order to fire was given. Kaerdroth spotted the items of evil worn by Lotharum and blinded the ever-watchful eye of the gods. Azuriel, on the other side, summoned a conflagration on the marauders, but only a couple marauders fell, and the charge went unhindered. The missile had equal luck, not killing enough of the enemy to deter them. The army kept coming.
Grimnos was pleased to see his men’s loyalty had not been shaken by the puny elven arrows. Having no shooting, nor any magic (such is the way of Khorne!), his army merely continued their blood lusted advance.
Drauthnir observed his line seeing that everyone was ready to charge or take a charge. He regretted not having enough time to plan this battle out as he usually would. After a quick prayer to Asuryan, he watched the next volley of missiles, as this would be the last free shot they would get before combat was initiated. This time Azuriel was able to do great damage to the marauders, killing a rank and a half. Unfortunately, they proved to be persistent. Kaerdroth saw how the knights were the greatest threat to the silver helms, and placed a curse of arrow attraction on them. This volley had done well to alleviate that threat, as now only 3 of the 8 knights remained. Drauthnir looked to the heavens, “Now we see if Asuryan is watching…”
Grimnos was finally within reach of some enemies, and charged the Silver Helms along with his own remaining knights. The rest of the army was almost in combat as well. “Soon,” thought, Grimnos, “soon, these elves shall know that none get in my way, and those that do, become my slaves.” He found himself giving a quick, cruel glance at Khrangar. The fighting wasn’t going favourably; however, as the knights were only able to take one silver helm down, while Grimnos also only managed one kill. The silver helm knights had dropped their lances, drew their swords, and were parrying attacks. Through this melee the champion was able to dispatch a chaos knight. The Elven knights had just successfully held off the charge of Grimnos and his knights. The chaos knights fled, but Grimnos was unwilling to give up. He would regain Khorne’s favour, or he would die on this field.
The silver helms were making a bold stand, but there was now another threat on the right flank. Khrangar’s chosen and a group of marauders were approaching the swordmasters. Kaerdroth moved to a better position while his swordmasters prepared for the combat ahead. Athravan was able to lead position his spearmen to cut off the marauders. The magic phase resulted in the casualties of some warriors, but their charge continued. The shooting phase was just as unimportant. The silver helms had now lost one more of their comrades, and now was the time to flee. They fled out of the battle and headed back to the ships.
“How dare they flee? I want them all dead.” Grimnos was angered by these elves and their retreat. He could only watch now as the rest of his army was about to catch up and he himself would get into a better position.
Now Drauthnir prayed that the ships were ready, for the time to order the rest of his forces to retreat would have to come soon, or they would all pay dearly. Magic and shooting were mere annoyances now, and combat would soon be seen.
Khrangar was finally within reach of the enemy, as he and his chosen charged the swordmasters. Fighting with fury that can only be seen in a follower of Khorne, the Khrangar and his chosen crushed two ranks of the elves. The champion managed to take out a chosen warrior, but the damage had been done. It was common sense to flee now.
Kaerdroth was appalled at the sight of his swordmasters getting slaughtered and moved away from the area. Athravan now saw the large group of marauders following the unit of chosen and decided to cut them off. When combat was reached, the spearmen killed almost two ranks of marauders, while suffering no casualties of their own.
The elves were scattered now, and they may be able to flee, but they do so with many casualties. Hopefully it would be enough to please Khorne. To his left he saw as his warriors were forcing a unit of archers to flee.
The order was now given; the elves were in full retreat. Kaerdroth placed curse on the Chaos Lord and told the bolt thrower crews to take one more shot before they too fled. One bolt hit, and managed to wound the demonic steed. “At least this should prevent further pursuit,” was Kaerdroth’s last thought before leaving the field…
Result: Draw
I didn't quite pay enough attention to the chosen in this game (there is always a unit I ignore, and it ends up doing damage). I now have a way eliminate the threat of those chosen...
Those Bjornlings shall regret making enemies of the elves of Tor Thalaas!
