Okay, I need to decide which list is better because me and some friends are going to run a knock out tournie. 8 of us and it is knockout. Now because we want to have lots of different armies and shaargor is not playing I have decided to use vampires because someone is using high elves and the same for brets.
So here's list 1 which I have had tons of experience with:
Strigoi vampire Count: Level 2, summon ghouls, curse of the reverant, iorn sinews:340
Wight Lord:Sword of the kings, enchanted shield, heavy armour: 99
Necromancer: Level 2, book of arkan, dispell scroll: 150
Necromancer: Level 2, casket of the ages: 125
28 skelletons: Spears, shields, full command: 279
23 zombies: standard: 138
23 zombies: standard: 138
5 dire wolves: 50
5 dire wolves: 50
6 ghouls: 48
6 ghouls: 48
6 ghouls: 48
19 graveguard: shields, heavy armour, halberds full command, banner of the barrows: 360
5 black knights: barding, lances, heavy armour, shields: 125
Power dice: 8 + 2 bounds spells
Dispel Dice: 5 + scroll
Models: 130
Deployment slots: 12
Only slight changes to this one but the halberds and cursed book are ppreforming better than the power familiar and extra grave guard.
Now for something slightly unusual:
Blood dragon vampire count: Barbed nightmare, full plate armour lance, shield, master strike, crown of the damned, red fury: 357
Waith: Barbe nightmare, ring of the night: 122
Necromancer: Level 2, 2xscrolls: 180
Thrall: additional hand weapon and flayed hauberk: 114
15 zombies: 90
15 zombies: 90
5 wolfies: 50
5 wolfies: 50
5 wolfies: 50
5 ghouls: 40
6 ghouls: 48
6 ghouls: 48
10 black knights: Fc, barding, banner of the barrows: 355
4 fell bats: 80
12 grave guard: halberds: 168
12 grave guard: halberds: 168
black coach: 205
Power dice: 6
Dispel dice: 4+2 scrolls
Models: 105
Deployment slots: 15
Finally, I wan t some really constuctive replies here so no one liners.Thought, could be a bit rich coming from me but hey.
Personally, I prefer the Strigoi list, firstly because I like Strigoi anyway (but you already knew that), but secondly because it seems like a much more solid list overall. Personal preference for me would be one less necromancer and one more fighty hero, but if you know that list works for you then use it that way. Another dispel scroll in place of the Casket of Ages seems like an obvious swap to make.
The second list just doesn't seem that strong. You have one kick-ass unit of knights, but the rest of the list seems to be lacking. I imagine you plan to use the grave guard as flankers for your zombie units? If this is the case, you'd be better off with larger units of zombies and another fighty character to go in the other unit (one thrall between two units of zombies will probably not be enough, they are zombies afterall!). Black Coach is only 200 pts as well.
But yeah, go with the first list. The second list needs some serious re-working to be viable in my opinion.
Cheers,
DLJ
I would go for the first one too, even though i love blood dragons but the strigoi list seems more......solid and flexible, you have many blocks of meat shield infantry and then you got a BIG BLOCK OF GRAVE GUARD !!!!! and thats just too good :D and you got quite abit of fast troops so that evens it up !
I will probably go for the first one.
The second is an idea I thought up of having redundancy and using flanks/lots of skirmishers/speed to destroy the enemy.
