I'm assuming these are basic tomb king stats? If you give a charaxter special rules, try keeping him to the basic statline. That way it's easier to see if there's a problem with his special rules
Kingphesphestus - May 1, 2003 12:46 PM (GMT)
He has one extra initiative and wounds
Kingphesphestus - May 1, 2003 12:52 PM (GMT)
I think when making special characters you should look at the existing ones rules, for example in the tomb kings book both special characters have rules regarding the inclusion of units so mine does.
Ill post his magic items and chariot rules later as well as his fluff
Maelduin ab Sardis - May 1, 2003 09:10 PM (GMT)
Drop the additional wound. It's overpowered. Most races need a 50 point magic item to get this!
Are you sure about the I? Why is he better? An additional WS or S is something much more in line with tomb kings I think. Then again, it's your special char ;)
Kingphesphestus - May 2, 2003 12:06 AM (GMT)
I looked at the stats that settra has and a normal tomb king and went from there settra has 1 more attack, initiative, weaponskill.
The extra wound is sort of because of his fluff his from lybrasia and as a child was lost to the king there (had a scorpion birthmark) and raised by a gaurd until he made an inadvertent mistake and was sentenced to die fighting a giant lybrasion scorpion unarmed. He manged to kill the scorpion and as the blood of it flowed over him he felt invigorated and strong. (the blood of giant lybrasion scorpions is used on the armour of eternity to cool it, so i was going to give him an extra wound or re-roll armour save, and I play skaven an awful lot and with three warfire throwers, 1 wounds not a lot.) Any way upon seeing this the king realised he was his son and joy returned to the city, one night however as they were hunting a Bull that had been a gift Phesphestus fell but as he was about to be gored a scorpion rose out of the ground and killed the bull before it could. After this he was known affectionately as pinchy and always accompioned him to battle drawing his mighty chariot, and calling more scorpions as Pinchy was a king too. After many prosperous years king phesphestus died and he was buried with pinchy. after awakening he ordered his lichpriests to repair and re-awaken pinchy so that they could once more reclaim the lands that were theres. (I need a new name for pinchy i think, thanks for the input though im still playtesting it and im going to try and get some games against some other races on the weekend :)
Skritt - May 2, 2003 01:29 AM (GMT)
This fluff is a lot better than mine :o
no fair... gotta practice ;)
Kingphesphestus - May 2, 2003 01:31 AM (GMT)
Whos your special character and fluff? have you put it up yet?
If not could you id like to read it :D
Kingphesphestus - May 2, 2003 01:48 PM (GMT)
Here are his magic items
sword of sokth; poison, strike first, killing blow, great weapon
This sword was crafted from the tail of the scorpion phephestus defeated and still retains some of its deadliness, It was then blessed in the temple of
sokth
Armour of sokth: Magic resistance 1, Armoursave 4+, immune to
poison
This armour was crafted from the scale of the dead scorpion and blessed in the temple of sokth, it still retains some of that creatures essence
Eye of sokth; 5+ ward save versus missile chariot only, no strenghth 7 destruction
This glyth has been carved into
Phesphestus chariot.
Crown of Lybrasia; 4+ward save, all scorpion based units within 12'' suffer one less wound from combat resolution
This crown has been worn by the rulers of lybrasia for as long as can be remebered , the emerald atop it is the icon of that rulership
Well thats it so far ill post the chariot next B)
Maelduin ab Sardis - May 2, 2003 02:54 PM (GMT)
Make the weapon either great weapon OR strikes first, not both <_<
Rest sounds good, fluff is good, you just need to change pinchy's name (Akba-Ushabti, meaning "Eternal Protector" ?)
Kingphesphestus - May 2, 2003 02:59 PM (GMT)
I didn't realise i made it a great weapon its pretty late here.
For the scorpion's name im trying to find ont that means king or ruler,Also hell be pulling the chariot should i leave his stats as is in the book or change them a bit? B)
Maelduin ab Sardis - May 2, 2003 04:27 PM (GMT)
I would make the chariot a bit harder, that would be fitting with the new chariot rules...Maybe add 1S , +1AS (not a 1+ AS!!!), and poisonous attacks? I wouldn't increase the attacks since a normal chariot is drawn by two steeds.
As for the name: here are some ancient and less known egyptian's farao names:
- Nefertiabet
- Amenemhet
- Pa-Atem-em-Heb
- Thoetmoses
- Amenhotep
- Hatsjepoet
- Senmoet
- Echnaton
- Horemheb
- Merentpah
- Sjosjenk
Hope that helped
Kingphesphestus - May 2, 2003 11:59 PM (GMT)
I like echnaton Also i think ill leave the scorpion With the same attacks but +1 strength as he was like a king of scorpions and ill use his tail to draw the chariot so maybe i'll keep the killing blow but remove poison B)
Maelduin ab Sardis - May 3, 2003 11:01 AM (GMT)
If the scorpion is separate, that means the chariot is hit automatically since it has no ws,and you can choose to attack either the character or the chariot or the scorpion...
Kingphesphestus - May 3, 2003 11:45 AM (GMT)
Sort of i didnt mean the scorpion was seperate, Even if he was killing him effectivley kills the chariot i meant for the attacks he makes, like the horses, would be killing blow because his using his claws but not poison because his tail is being used as a harness ,sort of B)
Maelduin ab Sardis - May 3, 2003 09:26 PM (GMT)
In that case: sounds pretty good, just don't give the impact hits killing blow ;)
Kingphesphestus - May 4, 2003 01:53 AM (GMT)
No of course not.
The chariot will probably be normal chariot d6+2 but no fast cavalry
Its move would be 7, +2 to armour save illpost the others later. Hoe do you think its going so far.
Drauthnir - May 4, 2003 03:26 AM (GMT)
This character is going quite well so far. Have you decided on an appropriate points cost for this guy yet? How much play-testing has been done so far? Also, In my opinion, you should decrease the impact hits of the chariot if the scorpion has killing blow. Maybe just get rid of the scythes, making for just D6 impact hits. Everything is looking great so far!
Kingphesphestus - May 4, 2003 03:33 AM (GMT)
I suppose its just with the combat resolution wounds they need a bit o oomph in combat but with killing blow i suppose i could lower them.
Im working ont chariot stats at the moment.
I've playtested the king without the chariot a fair bit and he seems preety balanced i guess at the moment at about 375 points.
Thats 170 base +80 special rules and increased stats + 125 magic items
The chariot will probably be 170 points or so
Ozru'Shan - May 4, 2003 05:51 AM (GMT)
wow, tomb kings are cheep, my high elf characters always end up in the 500s
Maelduin ab Sardis - May 4, 2003 08:19 AM (GMT)
Sounds like a pretty balanced charcter to me. Just remember that in 6th. ed. scythes give d6+1 impact hits. Other than that, it looks great I'd say. Post a picture of the tomb king when he's finished! :)
Kingphesphestus - May 4, 2003 12:33 PM (GMT)
Your right it is d6 +1.
Also i think ill make the sword sokth a great weapon instead of strike first.
And i don,t know about high elves but a plain tomb king starts at 170 pts
Also once i,ve added in the chariot it will be about 500 and something points.
Thanks for all the advice so far, The chariots going ok.
Here are its stats
m ws bs s t w i a ld
4 6 4 5 5 5 4 4 10 king phesphestus
- - - 5 - - - - - Chariot
7 4 0 5 6 4 3 3 8 echnaton
For the chariot only use its stats for impact
echnaton (t,scorpion) stats are changed in the following way
1+ toughness due to the chariots wood and stuff around him
+1 to his save, so 4+ Same as above
No poison attacks and -1 attack due to his tail being used to pull the chariot so he can't attack with it
What do you think, The tomb king ward save does not effect anything but him however the chariots ward save effects echnaton.
I think it should be about 190 pts
85 for the tomb scorpion and 85 for the chariot.
Maelduin ab Sardis - May 4, 2003 06:33 PM (GMT)
5 wounds and T5? No wonder tomb kings cost 170 points
He seems hard, but expensive. Let him slug in out against Tyrion once, He's about the same points cost, so it'll be a good test :)
Ozru'Shan - May 4, 2003 08:41 PM (GMT)
tyrion is like a big thing that kills stuff, and he comes back again, I dont expect some bag of ones to do very well
Kingphesphestus - May 5, 2003 01:26 AM (GMT)
Hah tyrion would run away after getting a liitle dirty And the other day my bag of bones killed a bloodthirster (really lucky) Lets see tyrion do that.
Maelduin ab Sardis - May 5, 2003 08:47 AM (GMT)
Actually, I have't tried it in 6th ed., but in 5th ed. Tyrion was able of taking on a greater daemon and winning you know... B)
Kingphesphestus - May 5, 2003 09:09 AM (GMT)
i dont actually ive never really read much about high elves ill have to take your word for it :D
Kingphesphestus - May 5, 2003 09:20 AM (GMT)
Well that seems to be it for this character what do you think?
I may compile all of the rules int a new post as well as short story.Do you think this is a good idea? B)
Maelduin ab Sardis - May 5, 2003 10:10 AM (GMT)
Sounds good. Leave this post on too though, it's a nice example of how to create a good, balanced special character. Just let us know the playtest results, and we'll be better then the GW games developers
Oh, and does he take up just a lord slot or an additional hero slot too?
Kingphesphestus - May 5, 2003 10:38 AM (GMT)
I've just been using a lord and hero slot.
Gogking - October 8, 2003 05:21 PM (GMT)
cool i like it, do you have the cost for his magic items yet?
Kingphesphestus - October 9, 2003 01:46 PM (GMT)
The character post king phesphestus is where all the rules are now
